9LAND C2 – SERVING

Conducting military operations is a

balancing act. To achieve operational

effect the decision maker needs to

evaluate and balance the considerations of

the entire situation. The operational context

needs to be evaluated and one’s own

capabilities need to be coordinated and

synchronized in time to accomplish

the military mission. 9Land C2 and

its BMS and Soldier applications are

conceptually derived from that context

and anticipate there is military “problem”

to manage. They have therefore been

designed to assure Mission Command

C2 both cross functional and through all

command levels.

HOW 9LAND C2 OPERATES

The military tactical operation is conducted “from head to headquarters”.

Headquarters has a need for battle management throughout the military

operation “from headquarters to head”.

Battle management comprises the following three processes:

1) Coordination & decisions

2) Planning

3) Ongoing operation

9Land C2 connects all tactical levels into one and the same system solution

and supports battlefield management with digitised C2.

9Land C2 is a system offer, digitising Command & Control (C2) as part of

battlefield management on army tactical levels. The digitised battlefield

management system integrates the operational level with the tactical, i.e.

OpHQ - BdeHQ – Bat.HQ – CoyHQ – Platoon CP.

9Land C2 comprises 9Land BMS and 9Land Soldier. 9Land Soldier as a

digitised C2 application is made operational for the dismounted soldier.

9Land C2 gives military decision makers:

ADAPTABLETO PRECISE NEEDSThere is a need to digitise former “analogue”

Command & Control applications when demands

need to be handled simultaneously and in parallel

with control over the use of intellect (decisions)

while at the same time overviewing the potential

for continuation of military activities. The higher

9LAND C2 OPERATIONAL MODEL

Saab’s 9Land C2 addresses tactical command (TACOM) in

military operations. The BMS application connects the higher

operational command (OPCOM) at headquarters level with

the tactical command (operation). The BMS application meets

the operation’s requests for combat command and control

(C2). Information from military functions such as fire support

management (FSM), unmanned sensor platforms (UAV), anti-air

defence units or CBRN sensors may upon request be integrated

and handled via the BMS application. 9Land BMS integrates

end-users’ requests for a common operational picture into

one and the same application, enhancing decision-making

(management) in a way only possible with a

digitised C2 solution.

9LAND C2 SYSTEM MODEL

The 9Land C2 consists of the application (SW+HW), the

communication solution (SW+HW), the security solution, and

integration with users’ platforms, vehicles and command posts.

DOING BUSINESS WITH SAAB

Saab will adapt to your needs. Saab’s capabilities

range from software (SW) application supplier to a role where

Saab takes full system responsibility. Saab may supply

customers and end-users with system components as well as

knowhow.

Saab offers in-house rugged hardware solutions for 9Land

C2 applications but can also work with customer-preferred

suppliers and/or Government Furnished Equipment (GFE)

regarding hardware and communication solutions.
