Pastor’s Message

Fourth July is the birthday of America and so it is worth to celebrate every-thing that makes American life worth-while. Being an Indian and all the more a missionary of the institute of Incarnate Word (IVE) society, I am glad to wish you A Happy Independ-ence Day. I especially thank the Al-mighty God for this special occasion of sharing the joy of freedom and the goodness of God. It is, now, time for all the citizens of America to reflect on great wisdom and the tremendous hard work of some of the people that helped to make America great. It is as well to think of the many brave men and women who were willing to lay down their lives for the country they love. They played a role in making America eve-rything that, it is today. It’s also a time to aspire all over again to be the very best we can be today and every day. Recall the great events of those days and teach your children about those legacies they left behind because hard work proudly and cheerfully done is a large part of what being an American is all about. What we do for a living is more than just how we earn our living. Here in America, it’s also a part of who we are and how we contribute to society at large in both ways: political as well as spiritual. – George Washington, Founding Fa-ther of the United States, and the first president of the United States from 1789 to 1797 said, “As mankind be-come more liberal, they will be more apt to allow that all those who conduct themselves as worthy members of the community are equally entitled to the

protection of civil government. I hope ever to see America amongst the fore-most nations in examples of justice and liberality.” Now it is important to know the true concept of freedom that God has given to humanity, because man is created by God out of His free will. So, let us consider the concept of freedom for excellence according to St. Thomas

Aquinas: He says that Freedom is a means to human excellence, to human happiness to the fulfillment of human destiny. It is the capacity to choose wisely and to act well as a matter of habit. It is the means by which exercising both our reason (intelligence) and our will. We, then thus, act on the natural longing for truth, for goodness and for happi-ness that is our ultimate end. Therefore, Freedom is something that grows in us, and the habit of living freedom wisely must be developed through education, which involves the experience of emulating others who live wisely and well and through the spiritual growth (prayer). This act is the great organizing principle of moral life – and since the very possibility of a moral life (the capacity to think and choose) is what distinguishes the hu-man person from the rest of the natural world. It is also the great organizing principle of a life lived in a truly hu-

man way. That is to say, Freedom is the human capacity that unifies all our other capacities into an orderly whole and directs our actions toward the pursuit of happiness and goodness understood in the noblest

sense: the un-ion of the hu-man person with the abso-lute good, which is God. So, when we think of human freedom in this earthly life, it is even more important to think of God who is the Ab-solute Creator of all things, visible and in-visible. The freedom of indifference is the power to choose be-

tween good and evil. The freedom for excellence is the power to be the best human being we can be. Here the rules, or what makes for a good human being, are the grounding for freedom. One who observes these rules has the freedom to become excellent. Accord-ing to Aquinas, intellect and will have command over free will. This then is true freedom. As we think of our political freedom, so also, we need to ponder over the spiritual freedom i.e. the freedom of will. That is to say: choose good and avoid evil. Once again, I wish you a Happy Inde-pendence Day. God bless you, all. Fr. Jayapaul Polisetti, IVE

Congratulations!

Dear members of the Pastorate, I wish to take this op-portunity to thank you for all of your farewell cards and gifts. But most of all for the most beautiful Mass

and reception. I am grateful to Bishop Madden and all the priests who shared in the liturgy. I would like to

express my gratitude to our altar servers, music min-isters, lectors, and to all those who planned the liturgy. I also want to express my heartfelt appreciation for all

those who worked so hard to make the reception a reality as well as those individuals and organizations that sponsored it. My toes are still tapping from the

music by TKO who donated their time and talents. As one parishioner wrote to me, “You can take the boy out of Graceland Park, but you can’t take Sacred

Heart of Mary out of the boy”. Be assured that you, the members of the Pastorate will always be in my

prayers and close to my heart. May God bless you all. Bóg zapłać!

“In a generous spirit pay homage to the LORD, be not sparing of freewill gifts. .” Sir 35:10 Thank you for your Offering!
