Our sympathy to Tom, Moira, Geraldine, and Sean; sisters Teresa (US), Peggy, Kathleen, and brother, John (Ireland); and eleven grandchildren. Eternal rest to her! MARCH IS WOMENS HISTORY MONTH 2015 Theme: Weaving the Stories of Women’s Lives—This year’s theme presents the opportu- nity to weave women’s stories – individually and collectively – into the essential fabric of our na- tion’s history. Accounts of the lives of individual women are critically important because they re- veal exceptionally strong role models who share a more expansive vision of what a woman can do. The stories of women’s lives, and the choices they made, encourage girls and young women to think larger and bolder, and give boys and men a fuller understanding of the female experience. Knowing women’s achievements challenges stereotypes and upends social assumptions about who women are and what women can accomplish today. 2015 is also the 35th anniversary of the Women’s History Movement and the National Women’s History Project. The 2015 National Women’s History Month Honorees are: Delilah L. Beasley (1867 - 1934), historian and newspaper columnist; Gladys Tantaquidgeon (1899 - 2005), Mohegan Medicine Woman, An- thropologist, and Tribal Elder; Eleanor Flexner (1908 - 1995), historian and independent scholar; Polly Welts Kaufman (1928 - present), writer, teacher, activist; Lynn Sherr (1943 - present), broadcast journalist and author; Judy Yung (1946 - present), oral historian, author, professor; Dar- lene Clark Hine (1947 - present), historian and educator; Holly Near (1949 - present), singer, songwriter, social activist; and Vicki L. Ruiz (1955 - present), educator and pioneer in Latina History. Please read more about these outstanding women and their work. THREE SPECIAL BIRTHDAYS THIS WEEK! SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT Today, as we hear the story of Jesus’ transfiguration, we see clearly the promise of our own transformation in Christ. Our baptism sets before us this glorious work….bringing ourselves and all the world to its ultimate fulfillment. From the shining cloud, God’s voice is heard: This is my be- loved Son, listen to Him. Today’s Gospel ST. KATHARINE DREXEL (1858 - 1955) whose feast day is Tuesday, the anniver- sary of her death. She founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament to serve Native American and African-American children. They worked in Camden at St. Bartholo- mew’s. LOOK UP & SEE! Sacred Heart Church at its best! “The Loft,” as Michael Doyle calls the brilliant alternative and only way to do restoration above the high altar, is down! Behold, a transfiguration as the beauty of the scene shines in the sun. The high altar, the three stain glass windows, the two angels on can-vas, the dome, the new canvas paintings, the icons. Also, the two wonderfully recreated sten-cils that were the first art on the ceiling of Sacred Heart before the big paintings that covered them. Two, faintly visible, stencils covered with glue, were photographed by Don Harle and recreated. Magnificent! “The Loft” was erected in 1998, more than 16 years ago, by Don Harle and Dominick Giordano. On Monday, February 16, 2015, the loft came down like scales off our eyes so that we could see like the blind man in the gospel. The loft was taken down by the men who built it, Don Harle and Dominick Giordano assisted by Mar-tin (pronounced Marteen) Okwamba, son of Eliza-beth/Sam Okwamba of Emerald Street. We are grateful to God for the great restoration and that no one was hurt in all the high wire work of all these years in the Church. Look up and see! Say “thanks be to God” in your heart!

ASHES 2015 Ashes were given out from 7 AM to 6 PM by Fr. Michael Doyle and Fr. Dennis Bajkowski. 297 adults and 188 children (including 171 Sacred Heart School students and 16 staff members) came for ashes. They had two black thumbs!

ASH WEDNESDAY COLLECTION is for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. We collected $575.00.

OPERATION RICE BOWL Put an empty bowl on your own table for Lent. We will have a rice bowl on the tables at our Lenten Series Soup nights. Bring the gifts to church on Palm Sunday. Thank You!

LENTEN SERIES 2015 BEGAN ON ASH WEDNESDAY with Francine Grabowski’s reflection on the important journey we are all on...to recognize the struggles of families especially poor families. Watching the great fire of old palm and 53 people so reverently placing ashes on their foreheads with a hand on the Cross, was sacred time of deep prayer and commitment. A sacred evening! Then on Friday, February 27th, Sister Catherine Nerney, SSJ, continued us on our journey of un-derstanding who is our family. She has a brilliant teaching style, yet personable and passionate. Soup, of course, was top of the line! Many thanks to Josephine/Michael Giacchino and all their helpers! 95 people were in attendance. Rice Bowl Collection at the Soup Dinner: $218.50.
