Water is life

91.5 million people in India do not have access to safe drinking water.

About 48 per cent of children in India are suffering from some degree of malnutrition. Diarrhoea and worm infection are two major health conditions that affect school age children impacting their learning abilities.

HOPE in West Bengal• Since 2007, HOPE has

constructed and repaired tube wells in the slums to improve access of drinking water – this initiative was supported by Irish Aid.

• Reaching more than 1,00,000 urban slum population/20,000 Households.

Slum Based Safe Drinking Water Project in School

• 75% Children from the slums are going to local govt. school.

• Most of the schools do not have filtered water to cater large number of children.

• Water is typically contaminated.This project installed 2 (two) water units in two schools – Khidirpur and Belgachia

Initially we aimed to reach 400 children and 2000 slum population.

IMPACT: 3,450 students and 1,000 slum populations are reached daily.

Results delivered

• Access to clean water allows for better absorption and retention of vital nutrients from food

• Access to clean water means better protection from water-borne diseases leads to fewer missed classes in school.
