St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church

Dear Friends, In these days of Advent we find the maternal presence of our Mother, Mary, to be a great help. I encourage you to walk with Her and let Her lead you to Jesus. These words She spoke during these same days in 1531 to St. Juan Diego are always very consoling and helpful to me. I think you will find them so as well: “Hear and let it penetrate into your heart, my dear little son: let nothing discourage you, nothing depress you. Let nothing alter your heart or your countenance. Also do not fear any illness or vexation, anxiety or pain. Am I not here who am your mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection? Am I not your fountain of life? Are you not in the folds of my mantle, in the crossing of my arms? Is there anything else that you need?” With Her we find Him and then we learn that we really have no further needs, but if we do, we should bring them to Her right away. She invites us to do so. I invite each of you to participate this, beginning Thursday evening, in our Advent Retreat. You will find the details within this bulletin. With my prayers, Fr. Matthew Zuberbueler Pastor P.S. Please be generous this Sunday with the Diocesan Catholic Charities Collection.

¿No estás bajo mi sombra y resguardo?

Stewardship of Time and Talent / Corresponsabilidad de Tiempo y Talento Prepare the way of the Lord… - MARK 1:3 We are all called to live a holy life. We are all called to invite others to live holy lives. Living a stew-ardship lifestyle, being grateful and generous with our gifts, does just that – it puts us on the path to holiness and it invites others to be holy, too.

Year-End Giving As the year-end approaches, many of our parishioners like to make donations in time to benefit their 2017 tax return. Thank you for remembering St. Anthony of Padua Parish as part of your year-end giving. If you are planning to make a donation your contributions for 2017 must be in the parish office by December 31, 2017.

Thank you for beginning or continuing to embrace stewardship in your life and for sharing your talents and treasures with your parish family. Dear Fellow St. Anthony Parishioners, I am so grateful to be part of this parish family. Your generosity is overwhelming. Last weekend, we had school families and facilities staff members come to-gether to help clean up the Glen Carlyn Road side of the school. Have you noticed it? We were clearing the

way to welcome baby Jesus! In addition, I was warmly welcomed by the seniors at their luncheon after the noon Mass on, last Saturday, and en-joyed a lovely Christmas themed meal. What a wonderful ministry! Amidst this very busy season, when it’s easy to fall into the temptation of being “too busy” to pray, we were so blessed to participate in this month’s day of adoration and spend some time with our Eucharistic Lord who chooses to come to us in the humblest of ways. We took to prayer, all the events we’re learning about this advent, through the Jesse Tree, leading up to Our Savior’s birth. Please pray we continue to prune and pull out the weeds, especially during this season, making straight His path! Yours in Christ, Ms. Buçaj, Principal

Donate Altar Flowers The Altar Flowers, week by week, are a welcome offering to our worship. Flow-ers are alive. They are of God’s crea-tion. They are a fra-grant offering to the

God who created them. They are a symbol of new life in Christ. For all of these reasons, we give thanks to everyone who is moved to give flowers on a particular Sunday. Peo-ple have given flowers in thanksgiv-ing to God for a family member’s birthday, wedding anniversary, or other blessing. They are also given in memory of a departed loved one or friend.

Please consider a donation to the flower fund today. Please stop by Parish Office to pick up a form, check the Church back shelf or visit our website.

Save the Date! El Shaddai DWXI-PPFI Virginia Chapter invites you to the Simbang Gabi Mass, a Filipino devotional 9 series of Masses in anticipation of Christmas and to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary on December 19 at 7 pm at St. Anthony of Padua. Reception follows in the school Cafeteria.
