“Not as a man sees does God see, because man sees the appearance but the Lord looks into the heart. Samuel 16:7

How often do we invest our time, talent and treasure in creating an appearance that does not matter at all to God? We strive to impress with our clothing, home, career, possessions, car and other marks of distinction. But none of these illusions of greatness will impress God. Instead, He will look into our hearts to see how much we loved Him, how much we loved others and how much we showed that love by the way we used our time, talent and treasure here on earth. March 15 $13,458.00

Because there will be no Saturday 5 pm or any Sunday Masses there are not counting teams assigned until further notice. While there are no masses, the individual Mass intentions will be prayed by father in his private chapel daily.

MEDITATION FOR MARCH 22, 2020 The Lord of all gives sight to the blind. Jesus’ power and claims divide those who encounter Him. He is the long-awaited one, and He heals all wounds, even giving sight to the blind. We can trust that Jesus can heal all the wounds of our lives, giving us sight to see and a light to follow in the darkness of sin. In the first reading, the Lord sends Samuel to Jesse of Bethlehem because the Lord has chosen the new king from among Jesse’s sons. Samuel goes, and anoints

David in the presence of his brothers. In Saint Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians, he exhorts them to live as children of light. In the Gospel, Jesus encounters a man blind from birth. After Jesus gives the man sight, the Pharisees become divided over the account. The man defends Jesus, explaining that he must

OUR LADY OF FATIMA STATUE This week the Statue of Our Lady of Fatima will be in the home of Jocelyn Verdad. Thank you for taking Our Lady on a journey through our parish.

Cancellation In order to protect our Priests and Parishioners against the virus, we are cancelling the Penance Night, Thursday, April 2nd.

THE EASTER MYSTERY From His Wounded Side We Were Born This is the time of year when we begin to look forward to warmer weather and spring vacations. It is also the time

of year when we pause to see where we’ve been and where we should be going. It is the time to recommit ourselves to the Lord.

During Lent, you will notice a basket with decorated index cards by the cross of St. Lucy starting on Ash Wednesday, February 26th, 2020. Listed on each card is a suggestion of a necessary item to be purchased for an organization that helps those in need. These items will be collected before all the weekend Masses on March 14/15. This is our way as a parish to reach out to others through “almsgiving”, one of the spiritual blessings of our Lenten journey. All donations need to be in this Sunday, March 22th, 2019 Anything received after today will be given to our Food Pantry.

As St. Theresa of Avila said: “We should not attach much value to what we have given God, since we shall receive for the little we have bestowed upon Him much more in this life and in the next.”

We Adore You O Christ and We Praise You, Because By Your Holy Cross You Have

St. Augustine of Canterbury Church invites all to attend

Lenten Eucharistic Holy Hours Mondays at 7 PM

March 23 Rev. Mr. Deacon Thomas Lanza Vocation from Saint Augustine

“The Eucharist is the secret of my day. It gives strength and meaning to all my activities of service to the Church and to the whole world St. John Paul II

ALL MUSIC MINISTRY CHOIRS

Greetings All Parish Choir Members,

As I announced this past week. If the school is closed no rehearsal. There is no school this

week then they will evaluate the online learning, and the pandemic and decide the following weeks. So with two cases of the virus in South Brunswick. I am canceling rehearsals until further notice and no choir singing on Sundays. The Bishop has removed the obligation for attending Mass - which means it is not a sin to miss Mass. Father Bob has added more chairs so people who do come can sit at a "safe distance". He has instructed the ushers to count. He is considering having a Live-Stream Mass with On-line giving. But those decisions will come after this weekend and the decisions of the State of New Jersey if there is a quarantine. I will be staying at a "safe distance" since my immune system is compromised due to my cancer treatments. I am going to continue to work with Zoom to see if we could have an "on-line rehearsal" . SO if you missed rehearsal on Wednesday and do come to church this weekend, please collect your music in your slot. I will let you know if we are going to have an "on-line" Zoom rehearsal in the comfort of your own home. So no rehearsals until further notice and no singing or ringing on Sundays until further notice. The Archdioceses of Newark, Washington DC, Chicago, and the dioceses of Brooklyn, Baltimore, Trenton, Joliet, (that's all I know of) have all suspended Masses until further notice. I pray these measures will keep us safe and will keep this coronavirus at bay.

God's peace and healing be with you. Bill Berg

2020 Bishop’s Annual Appeal Stepping Forward in Faith: Grace in Action

This weekend, parishes throughout the Diocese of Metuchen are celebrating Bishop’s Annual Appeal In-Pew Weekend. Our goal is for every family to participate. Every gift, no matter the size, is important and greatly appreciated. Together, we are working to become kindling that is set aflame by the Holy Spirit, allowing God’s love and power to burn more brightly here in the Diocese of Metuchen. Thank you for actively participating in this mission by your financial support.

Cornerstone Retreat Postponement

Based on our discernment, we have decided that it is in every-one’s best interest to postpone the Cornerstone Men’s Retreat until a later date. We are doing this for the safety of all. We realize this disappoints both the candidates who have regis-tered and were looking forward to the retreat, as well as the parish team members who have been preparing for this event over the past year.

But this is not a cancellation; only a postponement. We will let you know as soon as a new date has been established. We will continue to accept registrations online at: https://parish.staugustinenj.org/cornerstone. We wish you and your family God’s Graces, especially during this pandemic. Please stay safe, and we hope to see you soon.

OUTREACH MINISTRY When we feel lost or lonely we usually reach out to those we love to help us feel better. When someone is all alone, poor and feels lost or lonely,

that person reaches out to you for help. Are you there? (Envelopes can be found in the Gathering Area of the Church).

EASTER FLOWER DONATIONS COLLECTION OF APRIL 05, 2020

In your offertory envelope packet there is a special envelope April 5th, for you to make a donation towards the purchase of Easter Flowers for our Sanctuary and Church. Contrasting the darkness of Lent, on Easter Sunday you will walk into our Church and sense, feel, and “smell” the joy of the Resurrection of Our Lord!

It is important that you use this special envelope and you are asked to place it in the regular collection. There will be only one collection taken. If you wish to make your donation in memory of loved ones, kindly write their names on the back of the envelope. For those who donate towards our Easter Flowers, your special intentions and your loved ones will be remembered in all the Easter Masses, as well as the Masses celebrated during the Octave of Easter.

Only the names of those whose envelopes received will be acknowledged in our Church bulletin during the Easter Season. Special envelopes for Easter Flowers are also available in the Gathering Area of the Church.

2nd QUARTER CHURCH OFFERTORY ENVELOPES FOR 2020 HAVE BEEN MAILED

The 2nd Quarter 2020 Church Offertory Envelopes have been mailed. ALL REGISTERED parishioners should have received your next quarter envelopes. Envelope numbers remain the same.

If you do not receive your envelopes by next week, please notify the Parish Center. In the cases of not receiving your envelopes, please write your envelope number and name on any envelope and place in the collection for proper credit.

If you do not receive offertory envelopes in the mail quarterly, you may not be an active registered parishioner of Saint Augustine. To rectify your status as a parishioner, please contact the Parish Center for registration information or to update your records. One must be a registered parishioner in order to obtain sponsor letters for Baptism and Confirmation.

Thank you for your continued support of your parish through living the gift of stewardship of your time, talent, and treasure! May God continue to bless and sustain you!

  HAPPY SPRING!

Chrism Mass Monday, April 6, 2020 Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi Metuchen - 4:00 PM

On Monday, April 6, 2020 Bishop James F. Checchio will celebrate the Chrism Mass with the priests of the Diocese. At this Mass, the Bishop will bless the Holy Oils which each parish receives for the rites of anointing. Saint Ambrose (340-397) began this custom-which we now call the Chrism Mass-in his Cathedral in Milan. These Holy Oils, which are used to sanctify the Faithful have been channels of holiness for centuries! The Oil of Catechumens is used to anoint infants and adults before their Baptism; the Oil of the Sick is used on the forehead and hands of the infirm in the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick; and Sacred Chrism is used to anoint the head of the newly baptized, the foreheads of confirmandi, the hands of a priest at his ordination, the head of a bishop at his ordination, and the altar and walls of new churches. At the Mass, all priests make a Renewal of Commitment to Priestly Service, recommitting themselves to their Bishop and to their ministry to God and His People; the Bishop and all Priests then ask the people for a pledge of their prayerful support. All are strongly encouraged to join in the ancient, grace-filled Chrism Mass at the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi in Metuchen at 4:00 PM.
