From Our Pastor:From Our Pastor:God the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness, Saint Paul tells us this Sunday (Romans

8:26-27). Saint Paul teaches us about prayer, that the Holy Spirit comes to the aid of our weakness, that the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings, according to God’s will. When we pray, most of us readily take up one form of prayer called petition or supplication. We tend to do well in asking God for His help, which is a good thing to do as we show our trust in, reliance on God. We pray for: His healing presence, grace and protection for our family members; an end to the killing of pre-born children; an end to the pandemic; peace in the world; politicians to protect U.S. citizens from radical Marxist mobs running the streets of our cities; all our brothers and sisters in law enforcement to get the support and reform they need; God’s protection for all who serve in our U.S. Armed Forces and all first responders; all the tyrannical anarchist evil-doers to be stopped from killing people, destroying statues, desecrating and burning churches, and looting stores and destroying property; for people’s conversion. There seems to be no end to our needs, and no lack of confidence that God hears us, as God’s answers include: “yes” or “no” or “Not right now, I have a better idea.” Yes, petitions are a good way to pray, as God loves to pour out His blessings in response to our petitions, according to His Divine will.

Yet there are other forms of prayer that are just as valuable and necessary to our spiritual lives: prayers that listen for God’s wisdom and revelation. Saint Paul refers to these other forms of prayer today, where the Holy Spirit intercedes for us, when we might silently listen to God in adoration, contrition and thanksgiving, and not be so focused on our petitions (Romans 8). This Sunday (Wisdom 12:13-19 and Psalm 86), we’re reminded to pray in adoration of God and seek His mercy. And in Matthew 13:24-43 this Sunday, Jesus once again uses parables and analogies to teach the crowd how to understand the Kingdom of God – as He teaches and announces “what has lain hidden from the foundation of the world” (Matthew 13:35). What He requires from us, in response, is that we listen to Him and do His will.

Through His Holy Spirit, Jesus unfolds the truths of the Gospel to each one of us, just as He has done for billions of believers throughout the centuries. He helps us to understand the things of God so that we can witness to His Kingdom more fully each day and bear the fruits of the Holy Spirit in this world: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, chastity (Galatians 5; Catechism of the Catholic Church 1832).

When we attend Mass, may we let God the Holy Spirit come to the aid of our spiritual weakness. As we listen to the Scripture readings in the Liturgy of the Word (the first half of Mass), may we listen to the Holy Spirit as He strengthens us to proclaim God’s Kingdom. During the second half of Mass (the Liturgy of the Eucharist), may we listen to Him with the ear of our heart as He gives us Himself. May we listen to God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, in every moment of our life, allowing Him to sanctify our daily words and deeds, in our love for God and neighbor. In these dark and troubled times, please know that I pray for you and all our families, especially at Mass, that we keep doing well as Christian witnesses, doing our best to listen to God and do His will, in our love of God and love of neighbor, living in our words and deeds the virtues of faith, hope and love.

With peace and prayers in Christ,Fr. William Vernon

GRANT COUNTY RIGHT TO LIFE Grant County Right to Life needs your help to continue to post a rotating billboard with a pro-life message. Currently the billboard

can be seen just north of Lancaster on Hwy 61. In the past, GCRTL defrayed the cost of pro-life training for youth. With more funds in our treasury, we would like to resume that. To contribute to the rotating billboard and other pro-life efforts of Grant County Right to Life, please send a donation to Mary Fishnick, 225 North Adams St, Apt 106, Lancaster, WI 53813. GO MAKE DISCIPLES“Missionary discipleship is a prime way to understand the nature

of our response to Christ. As we come to know God, experience His love and forgiveness, read the Gospels and understand our faith, and gradually realize that this gracious invitation to enter into relationship with Jesus demands a response, we see ourselves as disciples of the Lord. This faith stance calls us to both follow and lead.

We follow Jesus Christ our entire lives, increasing in our surrender to His will, letting His Word of truth and the beauty of His love shape our values, our affections, life decisions, how we spend our money and time, and order our relationships. The sacraments and prayer become the secret spring of grace which waters our hearts and spirits. For a Christian disciple, life makes no sense without Jesus Christ at the center of everything. The saints show us what a human being, in love with God and transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit, looks like and is capable of. The more we follow Jesus, the more we act and sound like Him in all that we say and do.

Missionary disciples do not keep the fire power of the Gospel to themselves. We take seriously the Great Commission when Jesus sends His followers forth to proclaim the Gospel to every creature and make disciples. Christian disciples make other disciples! The hope of our evangelizing initiative is to equip every practicing Catholic in the diocese with the competence and confidence to witness the love and truth of Christ to others with boldness and gentleness. Sharing how we have come to know and love the Lord, inviting others to Mass and prayer, answering faith questions, witnessing to the Gospel through a life of love, joy, and service

become the consistent methods by which a follower of Christ becomes a leader. In this way, a quiet and timid Catholic becomes a fiery missionary disciple!”

~ Bishop Donald Hying, July 2020 “Go Make Disciples” Newsletter

IN MEMORIAMPlease hold in prayer three people from our parish who died recently,

as well as their families who mourn for them. Evan Kelly, son of Will and Cindy Kelly, died on June 18 at the age of 21, with private burial to be held at a later date. Evan dealt with much during his short life, enduring great pain caused by health conditions that came on early in life. He adjusted to them as best he could through middle and high school, and in his work, pushing through the pain and limitations. He was admired for his fortitude, perseverance and joyful spirit. He dearly loved his family that now mourns his passing. Please pray for his parents, as well as his siblings, Erin and Ryan, grandparents, Gene and LuAnn Wagner, and all of his family and friends in this time of sorrow and grief.

We also pray for Jeanne Doll who died on June 29 and whose funeral Mass was offered on July 6. Jeanne was 90 at the time of her passing from this life to life eternal. Jeanne, at her core, was a woman of service, care and charity to her family, our community and to God. Caring for others was in her blood, which first led her to becoming a registered nurse. Later, after meeting and marrying her love, “Shot” Doll, her care extended to assisting others at Doll’s Hardware Hank, whether it be for a hardware item they came to purchase or for a listening ear and guidance. While working and after her retirement, Jeanne was continuously on the go volunteering in numerous organizations in our parish and community. Promoting and supporting both St. Clement and Lancaster were deeply important to her. Love of God and love of her family were so central to Jeanne. She was deeply devoted to her family, following their every pursuit and being their biggest cheerleader. Let us also pray for Jeanne’s children, Bob (Bev), Mary (Marty), and John (Deneen), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister Joan, and all of her family and friends in this time of sorrow and sadness.

We pray for and remember too Sandy Jerrett who entered into life everlasting on July 2, with her funeral Mass being on July 7. Sandy was just 73 at the time of her death. Sandy was deeply devoted to her faith, to her family and her friends. God, faith and prayer were very important to her. She had a special devotion to God’s holy angels, watching EWTN and praying the Rosary. Sandy’s family and friends were dear to her heart; she held a special place for each and every one of them. She and her husband Clete built a beautiful marriage and family. Sandy carried her share in the cross of Christ for 20 years, being diagnosed with two very rare diseases. These caused her tremendous pain, and over time, led to other complications that only added to the pain she bore. Yet, she did so with great trust in God and without complaint, thinking always that someone else had it worse than she did. As we pray for Sandy, may we also pray for Clete, her children Tim, Tina (Rod), Chad (Amy) and Courtney (Matt), grandchildren and great-grandkids, siblings, and all of her family and friends who grieve for her.

“Eternal rest grant unto Evan, Jeanne and Sandy, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. May their souls, and the souls of

all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
