St. Dominic Catholic Church THE MOST HOLY TRINITY SUNDAY Houston, TX May 22, 2016

Dear Friends in St. Dominic. Thank you to all who came out for our work party last week-end (Saturday-May 14th ) in preparation for the blessing of our parish life center. Thank you too to all who attended the dedication and blessing of our new parish life center presided over by Archbishop Emeritus Joseph Fiorenza with Deacon Phil Wiles, Rev. Michael Barrosa & Rev. Thomas Rayen. In the past years, a new parish life center for St. Dominic Community was just a dream. The realization of that dream is NOW;___this project has been conceived even before I came here in 2008. Plans to build a new parish hall has been discussed even during the time of Fr. Chacko Puthumayil. Our building committee has been working so hard for the realization of this dream---communications with the archdiocese asking for approval of this project have been at place and in 2009 we had the approval to begin our first capital fund campaign for this project . In 2010 we conducted the survey about the pressing needs of the parish —and we took the services of the Son Group, represented by Nilon Elliot to conduct the first capital fund campaign – a fund campaign for 3 years. It was indeed a long journey for our community and we were able to get the approval of the Diocese to build in 2014. We had the ground breaking ceremony on June 15, 2014…and the actual construction began—after a grueling experiences with filing applications for permits to the county and the city---the actual construction began on May 9, 2015. Donations and contributions are still coming in ---and with your continued sup-port and participation—we would be able to make it—and be able to pay our financial obligation to the Diocese who loaned us up to 2.2 Million dollars for the completion of this project. Our Hispanic ministry team –started our Sunday food sales----and continue to do so up until now; we appreciate our Hispanic ministry community for their sacrifices and concerted efforts and all parish groups and organizations who have contributed their share in terms of finances, moral and physical support. hank you too to the Anglo & Fil-Am community for their active involvement and financial support. Again- thank you and congratulations everyone for this worthy cause—everybody did contribute their share for the realization of this new St. Dominic Parish Life center. This week-end, we celebrate the solemnity of the Blessed Trinity. Trinity Sunday, a moveable feast also known as Holy Trinity Sunday, is celebrated a week after Pentecost Sunday in honor of the most fundamental of Christian beliefs—belief in the Holy Trinity. We can never fully understand the mystery of the Trinity, but we can sum it up in the following formula: God is three Persons in one Nature. The three Persons of God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—are all equally God, and They cannot be divided. As we celebrate Trinity Sunday, we are challenged to know and to love God better. The more deeply we ponder and absorb this revelation of God, the more we will love him. And the more we love God, the happier we will be. We were created in order to love God. Whenever we do what we were made to do, we experience meaning and fulfillment. So the more we love him, the more fulfilled we will be. But in order to love him more, we must know him better. An old proverb says---You cannot love what you do not know. To use a crude example: someone who has never tasted apple pie cannot say --I love apple pie. But if that same person experienced a piece of home-baked apple pie, right out of the oven, then he knows what it is, and he can say---I love apple pie. If we know who God is, if we go beyond vague, fuzzy ideas and really get a clear view of his glory and his goodness, it will stimulate our spiritual taste buds and stir up our love. This is the reason that God has revealed himself to us. He wants us to know him. Because he wants us to love him. On this feast of the Blessed Trinity, we need to ask ourselves: how well do we know God? Have we become satisfied with the bare minimum? Are we striving to know him better? Do we know him better today than we did one year ago, five years ago, twenty years ago? When we profess our faith in God, let us really mean it. And let us ask God to stir up our desire to know him better, because if we really want to do so, he will gladly show us how to do so. Sincerely yours in Christ Rev. Roger Estorque

¿Estamos luchando a conocerlo mejor? Roger Estorque
