FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME When we gather together as a faith community to give glory to God, we expect that our experience will be similar to what it was the week before, or the week before that. Most likely this is how the faithful of Nazareth felt when they went to synagogue. Then one day, Jesus, son of Mary, a carpenter whom some may have known when he was just a boy, stood up to preach. Unlike the crowd in today’s Gospel, may we be open to the Word of God entering in unexpected ways.

Help us to understand that these summer joys are but a hint of what you have prepared for those who respond to Your love. Grant that we may never for-get you in the midst of our summer fun!

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

How do I respond when someone is critical of me?

Do I search myself to find my failings or do I merely look for reasons to reject their criticism?

From now through Labor Day Weekend, the rectory office hours are Monday - Thursday from 9am - noon and 1pm - 5pm and on Friday from 9am - noon and 1pm- 3pm. Have a great summer!

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY

0234 Page Four July 8, 2018

FINANCIAL FACTS

Financial facts for July 1 and July 8 will be in the July 15 bulletin.

As followers of Christ Jesus, we are reminded that all things including life itself are a gift from God. What matters to God is not the gift, but the giver. Giving is God’s invitation to a way of life. It helps us to overcome our selfishness and love of things. What we do with what we have been given is a sign to God and to the world of the depth and meaning of our commitment. By recalling that all is gift, we therefore must strive to be generous with the financial gifts, both great and small, that God has be-stowed upon us. Thank you for your support and your generosity to God and to St. Bernadette Parish. St. Bernadette Parish has enlisted Parish Giving to provide its parishioners and supporters with the opportunity to use Electronic Funds Transfer as an alternative method for giving. The Program is free of charge for parishioners. More information about Parish Giving is available on our Parish web site: www.stbl.org on the “Parish Giving” page.

SUMMER VACATION IS HERE — DON’T FORGET YOUR PARISH Summer vacation time is here and soon and many of us will be going away with our families to enjoy fun and relaxation. Unfor-tunately, the bills at St. Bernadette’s never take a vacation. Salaries still need to be paid, electric bills need to be paid, etc. Thanks to everyone, in advance, for your support. We hope everyone has a happy and healthy summer.

Greetings, Young Catholics and your

parents or guardians!

If you are entering the 6th or 7th grade this fall, you are invited to join a small group of young people who assist at Mass as Altar Servers. These special people approach the altar with the priest and make sure that the Mass can be celebrated smoothly, with reverence and dignity. Altar servers carry the Cross and candles in procession. They hold the Roman Missal for the priest, help the deacon set the Altar for the celebration of the Liturgy of the Eucharist, accompany the people who carry up the gifts at the Offertory and several other small but very important tasks.

As with any worthwhile activity, being an Altar Server requires training and commitment. Of course, since this is a yearround need, accommodation is made for vacations and other things that limit the server’s availability at different times. Those servers who distinguish themselves by their diligence and commitment will be invited to be part of a smaller group who can serve at funerals and weddings. Funerals and weddings generally include a small stipend that is paid to the servers. Each new server will have to attend one or two training sessions during the summer at noon on Sundays. If necessary, other sessions will be scheduled. Service will begin in the fall. You are asked to consider this opportunity seriously and prayerfully and discuss it with your parents/guardians. If you would like to serve God’s people in this way, please contact me at [email protected]. I will forward to you the form that needs to be completed, signed by your parent/guardian and returned to the rectory. Deacon Tom Fitzpatrick

ST. BERNADETTE — CCD/PREP 2018-2019

Registration for the 2018-2019 CCD/PREP Year is now open! Classes are offered for parishioners in Grades 1-8 who attend pub-lic school and are held Monday evenings from 6:45-8pm in our Parish School. Early registration is highly encouraged and recom-mended. Please remember, the Sacrament of Confirmation will not be celebrated again until the Spring of 2020. Students may not take a year off. Every grade is important and builds upon the previous year. Any CCD/PREP student that does not attend 6th grade for the 2018-2019 school year will not be enrolled in the 7th grade for the 2019-2020 school year and, therefore, will not be confirmed in the Spring of 2020. St. Bernadette CYO does require registration and full year attendance in our Religious Education Program for those parish-ioners who attend our local public schools and intend to play St. Bernadette CYO sports.

The online registration can be found at: https://st-bernadette.org/ccd-online-registration

Please pay close attentions to the deadlines! In order to get the discounted fees, families need to be registered by August 15th! If your family is not registered by August 31st, children will not be able to attend the first night on September 17th. Please do not hes-itate to contact Marykate Murphy with any questions - [email protected] or 610-789-7676 ext. 212. Thank you in advance for reg-istering as soon as possible!
