A Note from the Pastor

Fr. Michael Fragoso

Today we celebrate the feast of the Epiphany. That is the making known of Christ to the whole world. We should say “Epiphanies” because they were several. The epiphany to the Shepherds, the epiphany to Anna and Simeon (Lk 2), and the Epiphany to all of Israel gathered at the waters of the Jordan to be baptized by John the Baptist (Mt 3, Mk1, Jn1). But foremost is the epiphany to the gentiles, the three Magi from the East. St Matthew relates that they saw “his star at it’s rising” fulfilling the prophesy of Balam son of Beor (Nu24:17) from some 1200 years before: “I see him though not now, I behold him though not near: A star shall advance from Jacob, and a staff shall arise from Israel.” And so they came to find him to do him homage. To acknowledge him as the King of kings: their King and our King. In my country children would receive presents on this day, the “kings’ day”. We would write a letter to one of the three kings and place it in a shoe next to the bed. We would leave milk and cookies for the kings and sometimes straw or hay for the camels. The star still rises for each one of us and beckons to each one of us to make known, really known, in our hearts, the coming of our God to us. It calls us to come to the manger so that we too may pay homage to our Lord and King. It calls us to his banquet table to meet him in the form of bread and wine as he promised. He comes and waits for us.

Altar Rosary Schedule Change The Altar Rosary Society’s meetings for January, February and March will held on the 1st Sunday of each month after the 11am Mass. Rosary will

be said at 10:30 am.
