Isaiah tells us about the Lord’s Mountain. It’s not really a mountain the Kingdom of God. There sins and reproaches and tears will be wiped away and we will enjoy the heavenly delights. It’s like the wedding feast Jesus tells of in the Gospel. The fatted calf is prepared and the choicest wines. The guests arrive prepared — in their best clothes. Those garments are the righteous, good and holy deeds we performed in this life. And when the guests come marching in, as the old song says, “I want to be in that number…” But, if we did wrong and the garment is stained, “there will be wailing and grinding of teeth”. One of the Explanatory Rites of Baptism involves investing the Person with a white garment. “See in this white garment the outward sign of your dignity. With your family and friends to help you by word and example, bring that dignity unstained into the everlasting life of heaven.” Baptism wipes away all our sins but as humans we are weak and make mistakes, try as we might. For that the Lord left us the Sacrament of Reconciliation so we can confess our sins, receive absolution and make some penance for having sinned. Some people say, “I never sin.” They are deluding themselves or they are in a coma. It requires one to honest with oneself, to reflect on one’s life and see oneself as one really is. That is hard and may even be painful. But it may be less painful that the grief we caused someone else and definitely less painful than “wailing and grinding of teeth”. It also takes courage to say those things we have done or failed to do to somebody else. Just remember: the confessor is also weak and prone to sin. He is bound by divine and church law to the secrecy of the confessional. As I tell the children, “Even if they poke my eyes out with hot pokers, I can’t say anything.” Why? It’s a sure path to hell — wailing and grinding of teeth — and automatic excommunication and only the Holy Father can forgive that sin. His penances are very severe, not two Hail Mary’s. In any case, as the Vatican II Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy (7) states, “By His power He is present in the sacraments, so that when a man baptizes it is really Christ Himself who baptizes.” And it is Christ Himself who forgives sins. As humans we experience by our senses, that is why the Lord left us these physical signs so we could better understand the spiritual effect of the sacrament. That is why we need to hear the words of absolution. It is the right of every baptized Catholic to hear those words after confessing their sins. The alternative is “wailing and grinding of teeth.” Be honest; Take courage; Don’t be afraid.

What do Saints Teresa of Avila, Catherine of Siena, Theresa of Lisieux and Hildegard of Bingen have in common?

Parish Intention of the Month As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the

apparitions of Fatima, may we petition Our Lady for the restoration of peace, the elimination of terrorism and religious persecution, and the culture of death, in our nation and in the world.

“My God will supply whatever you need…” - PHILIPPIANS 4:19 God really does provide for those who are grateful and generous. This is very difficult for people that don’t live a stewardship lifestyle to believe. People are skeptical and say it’s just coincidence. If you are skeptical, try living a stewardship lifestyle for just one month – be generous with your gifts of time, talent and treasure and see how God provides for your needs.

Alguna gente dice, "yo nunca he pecado." Sea honrado; Tenga valor; No tenga miedo.

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY

This year we celebrate the 91st World Mission Sunday on October 22nd. Our diocesan family of Metuchen will join our sisters and brothers around the world, as we gather to celebrate our faith at the Altar of the Lord. With them, we will celebrate our common vocation as missionaries. We participate in the world wide mission through our own prayers and financial sacrifices, and through the Church’s missionary arm, The Propagation of the Faith. In this way, we continue to be faithful to the mission of Jesus in His Church. Please be as generous as possible in next weekend’s collection so that the Joy of the Gospel may go forth to help those spiritually and physically in need, that everyone will know the personal love of the Lord Jesus. Thank you!
