GUIDELINES FOR GODPARENTS/SPONSORS
Have you been asked to be a GODPARENT? Have you been asked to SPONSOR someone ready to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, or for an adult in the RCIA program?
It is an honor and a privilege to be asked. You are seen as someone that a family, child, teenager, or adult looks up to as living a strong, Christian Catholic faith. You model that behavior in the way that you live your life. To receive a sponsorship form signed and sealed by the Pastor, please keep the following in mind:
I am age 16 or older. I am registered in the parish. If married, the marriage is recognized by the Catholic Church. I attend Mass on a regular basis. I contribute to the support of the Church, as best I can. (Attendance is taken by the envelopes in the collection basket). I receive Sacraments according to the Laws of the Church, and I fulfill the requirements listed above.
The Church takes very seriously the role of being a sponsor. Choosing a sponsor would be based on the person’s dedication to the faith and regular practice thereof.
We would like to wish Father Euk a very warm welcome to The Parish of Our Lady of Hope.

The se ng for the first reading is during the Babylonian cap vity. Zechariah is giving his people hope that the Messiah will vindicate them. They will be the recipients of God's saving jus ce and His powerful protec on. But the Messiah will not come like a victorious warrior with an impressive array on a white horse, but humbly and peacefully riding on a foul of an ass like King David. This is not the kind of libera on that is expected. And it will happen when Jesus fulfills this prophecy by riding on a donkey into Jerusalem, soon to be killed to atone for our sins. Through His death all peoples of goodwill can look forward and hope to be part of His peaceful kingdom which will be comprised of humble people and not like those poli cal leaders who give us so much grief with their empty and even sinful promises. Ironically King Darius, a pagan, will allow them to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the Temple. It almost parallels our prolife president, not perfect either!
In the Gospel passage, Jesus addresses God in his divine nature, "I thank You, Father" and His human nature, "Lord of heaven and earth." This acknowledgment of the dual nature of the Son of God is very important for us to understand. Jesus is both God and man. Jesus finds His ministry largely rejected by the wise and the learned, but not by the simple man. His Apostles and the li le people understand the simplis c message of salva on, while the Pharisees and the Scribes ignore Him because they are of the world and not of the Spirit. It is only the poor and the humble who get the insights that lead them into a deeper faith. Only these humble people have access to the Father through the Son. Jesus reveals Himself as the Person of wisdom found in the books of Proverbs and Wisdom. He chooses what to reveal of Himself based on the humility of His followers. It is only the poor and the repentant sinner who miraculously understand Jesus. Jesus reminds us that we are all images and likenesses of God so there cannot be racism in the Chris an.
Rabbis used the term "yoke" as a symbol of the Mosaic law. The Law did not punish willingness to sin. It merely punished the actual forbidden act, e.g., adultery, murder, etc.. Jesus presents His law where He is now the center of His law of love – the Bea tudes. Jesus’ law comes from assimila ng and living His a tude of love in our hearts. In Jesus the wisdom of God, the teacher and the subject taught, are one of the same.
Keeping Jesus’ law is a yoke that proves to be very light to the true disciple. "Learn from Me to be humble of heart." Jesus calls us to His school, not to be learned, work miracles, nor astonish the world with wonder. He calls us to in mate his humility. All the treasures of divine wisdom are reduced to the virtue of humility. Jesus never said, "learn from me because I am chaste, prudent, just, wise, etc." He said, "Learn from me, because I am meek and humble of heart." The one who possesses the virtue of humility possesses all virtues. Humility is understood by two serious ques ons: “Who is God? and “Who am I?” When these ques ons are taken separately they cause great psychological disharmony. God's greatness alone implies a mercifulness leading us to presump on and rashness. Our li leness and sinfulness cause us to despair. But taken together a balance of the knowledge of God and creature puts in check presump on and despair.
St. Paul shows us the importance of being in the Spirit. We should ask ourselves, "Are we in the Spirit?" It is a very important ques on. The bright Pharisees and the learned Scribes were not in the Spirit because Jesus did not package His message the way they wanted. I hope your visit to church today is not just a rou ne, but an experience of being a temple of the Holy Spirit.
As we celebrate the birth of our na on, let us hope that God will transform us to pursue that life and liberty which is being gradually taken away from us by our secular leaders who have no fear of God.
A Message from Father Euk

Here’s One Positive Encouragement
Written by a fellow parishioner
The people of the world are expressing and thinking about the inequality's that have permeated their lives today and for centuries and are moving for change. The Corona virus created a situa on where schools, houses of worship and businesses were closed. We were forced into a state of suspension and unease. Are you thinking about what is happening around us and wonder where is God? Has God stepped in again, crea ng this disharmony to remind his children to use their free will to be more loving towards each other and to not take advantage of those in society that are less fortunate? The Bible has shown us that God has used his power through the stories of Jonah and the Whale, the Tower of Babel, Noah and the Great Flood, to help his people get back to realizing what is really important. History has shown us that great civiliza ons like the Samarians, Egyp ans, Incas, Aztecs, Romans, Greeks, Byzan nes and others have failed. Was it because they were more interested in their wars and conquering then working in harmony with others of God’s crea ons? Maybe God would like us to avoid the previous mistakes in history and avoid the las ng disasters that caused the demise of those civiliza ons. Because we are God's children, he wants us to grow up not only spiritually, but socially. Will the coming years be our “ me out” on our “ me out” chair in the “ me out” corner of our home? Is He trying to help us realize we must change our bad habits and tantrums and to work together, helping and loving each other, and prac cing the Ten Commandments in God’s name? When was the last me you thought of the other person first, in your daily dealings? Have you been pu ng your wants first before other’s needs? When was the last me you said to someone, I am sorry, please forgive me, thank you, I love you?
