Dear Parishioners,
This is the final week after Pentecost (EF) and the final
week of Ordinary Time (OF). This year, the differential
of the post Pentecost season was 10, i.e., the twelfth Sunday after
Pentecost was the 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time. The season ends
“24:34.” The main difference between the liturgical year ending soon
and the ensuing “new” liturgical year is that, for the Ordinary Form, it
will soon be “Year A.” Of course, the Extraordinary Form doesn’t have
to concern itself with A, B or C. It’s always the same year in and out.
Makes life a bit easier and more predictable. Of course, there are still
the moveable feasts to deal with, but that depends on when Easter falls,
right?
Anyway, we’ve come through another great liturgical year and we have
much to be proud of as well as to be thankful for. Our Sunday Mass
attendance has doubled in the three years I have been here. It’s so
wonderful to have two Masses on Sundays, isn’t it? Come to think of it,
if we weren’t able to have two Masses, our attendance would definitely
NOT have doubled. I’m pleased to see that the attendance for the
Saturday 4:15 PM Mass has increased. Let’s just hope that this trend
continues.
As you may have seen by now, we have received very generous
contributions for the Youth Group and the Knights of the Altar. I am so
very glad that these two new organizations are now a part of our parish
fabric. The credit for the success of these two groups goes to Father
Bartholomew, of course. This fat, 68 year-old man would not have had
it in him to create and sustain these groups. Oh, yeah, I conceived them,
but I knew I had to leave it to someone younger to actually execute the
plan. And now they’re flourishing. Once again, I remind those families
who attend the Saturday 4:15 PM and the Sunday Naperville 5:30 that,
if there are youthful family members interested in joining the Youth
Group, all you have to do is contact either Father or me at St. Joseph’s
parish office. Ditto for young men interested in becoming Knights of
the Altar.
Please be aware that, because Thanksgiving (Thursday, 11/28) is a legal
holiday, we will observe our custom of having only one morning Mass
and that at 9:00 AM. The following weekend, on the First Sunday of
Advent, we will mark the Church’s New Year. Another year of faith and
growth. God bless you all. Father Magiera
