In preparation for the birth of Christ, we would like to decorate the Altar with Poinsettias. We ask that you donate a plant the week of December 17th, in a loved one’s name. Please attach a small tag with the name of your loved one and place it in the vestibule.

Christmas 2018
Greetings of Peace and Love! As part of God’s divine plan for our salvation, He constantly draws us all to Himself. The birth of Jesus is the dawn of our salvation. We can only be grateful and rejoice for such precious gift – God becoming human like us to live with us and be one of us. With the coming of Jesus in our midst, we see the hope of a new day, a new beginning especially that we seem to live with a bleak future. Jesus, the Light of the world, comes to show us the way and guide us towards the right path. Our response to His invitation to be sharers of His light is critical, such that we allow ourselves to be channels of His grace for others to experience God’s immense love and mercy and to bring to light those who live in darkness. It is God’s desire that we all live in the Light. May this Christmas season make us more aware of the presence of the Light that comes upon us. May we be renewed in our commitment to follow Jesus, our Savior and our Light. Merry Christmas and a Light-filled New Year!

Thank you to all those who took and returned your gift and attached the bell from the Giving Tree. Your generosity is such a blessing to so many.
We have placed round, violet colored paper orna-ments on the tree in the vestibule to benefit the Knights of Columbus Toy Drive for displaced chil-dren from the Camp Fire. Those must be returned no later than December 19th.

Confirmation Program at St. Joseph will have class on Monday, December 17th from 6:30-8pm. Please meet in the Social Hall. Confirmation Program at SVdP will have class on Tuesday, December 18th from 6:30-8pm. High School Youth Ministry: will be on Sunday, December 16th from 5:30-7:30pm in the youth room. Knights of Columbus Crab Feed
It’s the season to be Jolly… and Crabby… not in a bad way, but in the best way. The Knights of Columbus will be having their annual crab feed on Saturday, January 19, 2019. Tickets will be on sale this weekend after all Masses. Get your tickets early!
EG Wins
We are still in need of people who are willing to be Night Monitors. Night monitors arrive about 8:30pm, although you are welcome to come early and eat with our guests, and leave around 6:30am. Please bring a sleeping bag and a pillow. A cot is provided. You’ll take turns sleeping, so there will always be someone awake in case of an emergency (which is a rare occurrence). We would like to invite you to St. Vincent de Paul’s annual Pancake Breakfast with Santa on Sunday, December 16, 2018 following the 9am Mass. Pancakes, eggs and sausage will be served. Tickets will be on sale before breakfast. The cost of an individual ticket is $7 and $10 for a family. Come and enjoy breakfast with Santa!

Tradiciones de Nuestra Fe
Los cristianos latinos tenemos unos cinco siglos en nuestra trayectoria de fe y como todo cristiano aguardamos la segunda venida del Mesías, Jesús. Nuestra espera forma parte de dos milenios de cristianos que buscan verlo llegar en las nubes.
Desde el siglo VII la oración oficial de la Iglesia clama el retorno de Cristo con las exclamaciones llamadas las “Antífonas Oh”. Estas llaman a Jesús pidiéndole que venga bajo los títulos de Emmanuel, Sabiduría celestial, Señor de gran poder, Vara de Isaí, Llave de David, Alba de la luz, y Deseo y Rey de gentes, y algunos más. Estos refranes se usan aún todavía hoy durante los días 17 al 23 de diciembre, y unidas en un acróstico latino forman las palabras ero cras (estaré mañana), como respuesta a la petición cristiana. Eventualmente en el siglo X o XI estas antífonas fueron unidas en el canto gregoriano Veni, veni Emmanuel (Oh ven, oh ven Emmanuel).
Este adviento mientras cantamos las antiguas antífonas hay que preguntarnos si de veras estamos listos para el regreso del Hijo del Hombre que viene para juzgar a vivos y muertos.
