THINKING ABOUT BECOMING CATHOLIC?

YOU ARE CATHOLIC BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED YOUR FIRST COMMUNION OR CONFIRMATION?

WHY NOT LOOK INTO ST. JOSEPH’S RCIA PROGRAM? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

A TWELVE WEEK PROGRAM

RCIA is the process by which the Catholic Church directs and supports the way of faith and conversion by which adults (and children who have reached the age of reason) are initiated into the Catholic Church.

RCIA is for those who are not Catholic and who desire to be baptized, receive first Holy Communion and Confirmation.

RCIA is also for those non- Catholics who were baptized into other Christian Communities and now desire to be brought into the Catholic Faith.

RCIA is also for those Catholics who desire the Sacrament of Confirmation and seek to be fully initiated into the life of the Church.

Classes are usually offered in the early fall and are completed on Holy Saturday at the Easter Vigil.

If you have any questions about the process please reach out to Fr. Lagiovane at the Parish Office- 914- 232- 2910

• THE NEXT RCIA PROGRAM BEGINS IN THE FALL OF 2017 • MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 18TH OR TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19TH , 2017 AT 7:00PM. THESE WILL BE INFORMATIONAL NIGHTS EXPLAINING THE PROGRAM AND WHAT IS EXPECTED OF EACH CANDIDATE. THESE MEETINGS WILL BE HELD IN PARISH MEETING ROOM 1.

OFFICE HOURS WEEKS OF

Monday, Aug. 28th—31st

MONDAY‐THURSDAY 11:00AM‐4:00PM

From the Desk of Fr. Lagiovane

September 1st has been set aside by Pope Francis as the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. Let us all remember our duty to care for the earth that the Good Lord has given us. A Prayer for our Earth By Pope Francis*

All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures. You embrace with your tenderness all that exists. Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty. Fill us with peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one. O God of the poor, help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth, so precious in your eyes. Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it, that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction. Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain at the expense of the poor and the earth. Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe and contem-plation, to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature. As we journey towards your infinite light. We thank you for being with us each day. Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle for justice, love and peace. Pope Francis published this prayer in his Laudato Si’ encyclical, and is meant for sharing with all who believe in a God who is the all-powerful Creator.

Businessmen’s Reality Retreat September 15th, 16th & 17th

If you’d like to discover more reasons why you are blessed by God, and also called by Him, please join us for this year’s Manhattan College Businessmen’s Reality Retreat at the Bishop Molloy Retreat House in Jamaica Estates, Queens, NY. There you will have ample opportunities for fellowship with men like yourself, many of whom have been attending our annual retreats year after year. 2017 is the 26th installment of the Reality Retreat, which was started by a group of Manhattan College alumni and friends, many of whom worked in business settings in NYC, who were seeking a way of strengthening their faith and bridging that faith from Sunday Mass into the start of the workweek on Monday morning.

The Theme this year is Romans 12:2 “Do not conform, but be transformed by discerning the will of God” will feature great speakers, Rev. Robert Kinnally, Christopher Bell, John Toman, John Buonviaggio, Deacon Paul Brisson, delicious food, enrich-ing fellowship and camaraderie, and opportunities to partake in the sacraments of the Eucharist, Reconciliation and Anointing. Past speakers have woven their personal witness stories together with the annual theme, inspiring our attendees. Again, we hope that you will plan to join us- (call the retreat house at (718) 739-1229 or view online at:www.manhattancollegeretreat.com

Divine Mercy Consecration Join St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 1377 E. Main St., Shrub Oak, for our Divine Mercy Consecration to begin in September. SEAS church is hosting a six-week Divine Mercy study based on the book 33 Days to Merciful Love by Father Michael Gaitley from the Marian Fa-thers of the Immaculate Conception. The study will begin on Thursday, September 7th, and continue on subsequent Thursdays, September 14th, 21st, 28th, October 5th, and 12th. Sessions are each 1 ½ hours long, and participants may attend either the morning session at 10AM or evening session at 7:30PM. We will be exploring the heart of St. Therese of Lisieux’s Little Way, uncovering the power of trust in the face of personal darkness, inspiring participants to become great saints amid ordinary circumstances, and laying the foundation for a personal consecration to Divine Mercy at the end of the study. Saint Pope John Paul II emphasized that now is the time of mercy- a time of great and extraordinary grace. We invite you to join us, and invite your relatives and friends. For more information, or to register, contact Charles An-gelillo at [email protected] or 914-245-9248.
