May the peace of Christ be with you,
In these difficult and unprecedented times we are
in need of prayer even more than before. We are
looking into starting up adoration again at St. John
Vianney church throughout the day. The adoration
will take place in the main body of the church,
rather than in the chapel, so people can spread out
and maintain distance from one another. If you are
willing to take an hour each week to pray for our
families and our parish please call the parish office.
This is for those who are not already on the
schedule that we had before, as we are in the
process of contacting those people to see if they are
interested in returning to adoration. If you are at St.
Mary’s parish or Sts. Peter and Paul we will
consider establishing one day a week or more for
adoration at SS. Peter and Paul Church in Blue
Earth, depending upon interest.
In the Catholic Church we have the great gift of the
Eucharist which is Jesus Christ truly and
substantially present. The Eucharist is not an object
so much as a person, namely, Jesus Christ who is
God and man. Therefore, everything that can be
said about Jesus can also be said about the
Eucharist. He is the source of healing and strength.
He can communicate with us in prayer and
adoration. Our proper attitude to him is reverence
and worship. After the Resurrection this is the way
he is with us, as described in Luke 24:30-35. “And
it happened that, while he was with them at table,
he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave
it to them. With that their eyes were opened and
they recognized him, but he vanished from their
sight.” Notice it does not say that he went away
from their presence, he only vanished from their
sight. He was still with them, but not able to be
seen, in the Eucharist. “The two recounted what
had taken place on the way and how he was made
known to them in the breaking of the bread.” The
term “breaking of the bread” is a term used in the
early Church for the celebration of the Eucharist.
See Acts 2:42, 20:7 and 1 Cor. 10:16. “They
devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles
and to the communal life, to the breaking of the
bread and to the prayers.” They gathered to “break
bread on the first day of the week.” “The bread that
we break, is it not a participation in the body of
Christ?”
The Eucharist in the Catholic Church therefore is
not just bread that symbolizes Jesus but it truly is
Jesus Christ, present in his body, blood, soul and
divinity. Because a priest is required to consecrate
the Eucharist, the communion in other churches
such as Lutheran, Baptist, etc. is not Jesus Christ
but remains bread.
In reflection on the Ten Commandments we come
to the Ninth Commandment: You shall not covet
your neighbor’s wife. Jesus clarifies this teaching
when he states “Every one who looks at a woman
lustfully has already committed adultery with her
in his heart” (Mt. 5:28). Because of original sin, we
now live with the effects of concupiscence, which
is a struggle or conflict between our bodies and our
souls. Our passions can get out of control and we
end up doing what we do not want. Jesus says,
“Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see
God.” Purity of heart enables us to see as God sees,
or “according to God,” to accept others as
neighbors, and to perceive the human body as a
temple of the Holy Spirit, a manifestation of divine
beauty. (CCC 2514-2519). By the sin of lust we
tend to view another person as only an object for
our own pleasure or just as a body, not recognizing
the soul of the person made in the image of God.
To grow in purity of heart requires a growth in
charity, or love for our neighbor, rather than using
the other; chastity or sexual rectitude; love of truth
and orthodoxy of faith. We will discuss these
virtues more next time.
In next Sunday’s gospel, Matthew 21:33-43, we
have the parable of the landowner who leased his
vineyard to the tenants to take care of until his
return. The Church belongs to Jesus Christ and we
are stewards of it. It is not something that we can
do with as we please, but we are called to faithfully
hand on the teachings and graces of Jesus Christ.
We will be accountable for how we have shared
the faith with our families and neighbors.
God Bless you,
Fr. Andrew Beerman
Even though we may not be able to receive Jesus in the
Eucharist, we can make an act of spiritual Communion. My Jesus, I believe that You are present
in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all
things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I
cannot at this moment receive You
sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I
embrace You as if You were already there and unite
myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated
from You. Amen.

SS Peter & Paul Parish Rosary Program –
This is a new program that the Catholic
Daughters here in Blue Earth will start on
October 4, 2020. It is open to all parishioners of
SS Peter & Paul and will go through October 4,
2021 and the goal is to pray 5,000 rosaries in one
year. This program is so simple, just tally up the
number of rosaries you and your family
members have prayed in a two week period
starting on October 4 and then turn in the tally
sheet in the weekly collection plate. If your
family prays the rosary together multiply it by
the number of people saying the rosary. If you
don’t have a tally sheet, just record the numbers
of rosaries said on a piece of paper, and return
the paper in the collection plate. No signature or
names are needed. Tally sheets are available in
this week’s bulletin and more tally sheets will be
available at the back of the church. There are
also rosaries available at the back of the church.
If you know of people who are members of our
church but are homebound or whatever please
tell them of this program also. Our Blessed
Mother asks us to pray the rosary daily and never
has there been such a need to pray the rosary
every day, please add the intention of Respect
Life (to build a culture that cherishes every
human life), for our families, and for an end to
COVID 19 when you say the rosary. Help us
reach this goal of 5,000 rosaries by October 4,
2021. Every Sunday before mass the Rosary is
recited at 9:30 please come and participate if
able. If you have any questions contact me, Lola
Schultz at 526-4492 or you can email me with
the number of rosaries you have prayed at
[email protected] . Or turn your rosary
information into a Catholic Daughter. I will try
at least once a month to put an update in the
church bulletin on how many rosaries have been
prayed. So let us all say YES to OUR LADY
OF LOURDES! (If you didn’t know that is the
name of our chapel here at church).
Fr. Patrick Peyton said “The family that prays
together stays together.”
