CHRISTMAS 2016 DECEMBER 24/25, 2016
From Your Pastor …
I take this opportunity on behalf of Deacon Tully and myself to
extend to all parishioners of Saint Mary Parish, a blessed
Christmas Day and season. A special thank you to all of the
parishioners who have been involved in preparing our church and
parish for the celebration of Christmas as well as the feast days
that will be included in the Christmas season, those being: the
Feast of the Holy Family, Friday, (Dec. 30th), the Solemnity of
Mary, Mother of God, (Jan. 1), the Solemnity of the Epiphany,
(Jan.8) and the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord, (Jan.9), which
brings to conclusion the Season of Christmas.
In particular I thank those who decorated our Church inside and
outside, those who donated toward the flowers that grace our
sanctuary.
I also thank those many parishioners who have greeted me with
Christmas cards and various gifts. Your kindness and generosity is
very much appreciated.
In celebrating the sacred event of Christmas, we once again
welcome the Christ child into our world and our lives. Jesus is
the light that has come into our world to overcome the darkness
of sin and death. As we begin to observe in nature the slow
retrieval of more and more daylight with the slow tilting of the
earth toward the sun, so too our lives should tilt more and more
toward the Son of God who has come as spiritual light for us and
for all the people of the earth. Ask God for the grace to make this
Christmas season more than a holiday that passes by quickly, but
for it to be a time when our lives are changed for the better by
having been receptive to those powerful graces that God makes
available to us during these holy days. By receiving into our lives
these abundant graces, we shall experience ever more firmly the
peace and good will that was proclaimed by the angels at the first
Christmas: “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to
those on whom his favor rests.”
Until I write again, may God bless you and all the parishioners of
Saint Mary’s Parish.
Merry Christmas!
Monsignor Roger J. Scheckel
