Stewardship: A Way of Life

2nd Sunday of Lent

“Go forth from the land of your kinsfolk and from your

father’s house to a land that I will show you.”

Genesis 12:1

God calls all of us to leave be-hind our old ways and to fol-low Him, placing our complete trust in Him. Some of the old ways that we may have to struggle to leave behind might be materialism, selfishness, and agreed. Yet God promises to show us a new land and a better way to live. Remember what St. Teresa of Calcutta said, “God does not call us to be successful, God calls us to be faithful.”

WORD OF LIFE: “We are facing an enormous and dramatic clash between good and evil, death and life, the “culture of death” and the “culture of life”. We find ourselves not only “faced with” but necessarily “in the midst of” this conflict: we are all involved and we all share in it, with the inescapable responsibility of choosing to be unconditionally pro-life”

(the Gospel of Life 28)

CORONAVIRUS AND THE LITURGY Diocese of Madison Office of Worship

February 28, 2020 The Office of Worship has received some calls expressing concern about the transmission of the Coronavirus at Mass. Please remember that there is no need to panic. Early indications show that it is transmitted in much the way that influenza is transmitted. Below are MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS, effective immediately, within the Diocese of Madison: 1. Parishioners should refrain from touches others during the Mass (e.g. the Sign

of Peace and the Our Father). The Sign of Peace may be 1) omitted, or 2) retained if there is instruction in the use of non-contact gestures.

2. As is the current policy, the Precious Blood should not be distributed. Below are some SUGGESTIONS for possible implementation within the Diocese: • Common sense dictates frequently washing hands, covering coughs, etc. • Communicants may wish to receive Holy Communion in the hand rather than in

the mouth. • If a parishioner is experiencing flu-like symptoms, (s)he should stay at home. The

Code of Canon law (1248.2) allows a person to miss Mass on a Sunday or holy day of obligation for a grave reason. Having a communicable disease is a grave reason. Missing Mass for this reason is not a sin.

• As the coronavirus spreads, parishioners who have a compromised immune system (the elderly, babies, those with an underlying illness, transplant recipients, etc.) may consider whether or not they should attend Mass for the same reasons cited above.

• Depending on the length of the coronavirus concern, people should be instructed not to kiss or touch the Cross while venerating it on Good Friday. Instead, they may genuflect or bow before the Cross as an act of veneration.

• Ministers and priests may decide that while greeting attendees before and after Mass, to refrain from shaking hands or touching others.

for 40 Days. All food donations will go to the Milton Food Pantry. Alms for

those with greater needs than our own. Thank-you in advance for your generosity.

TAIZE’ PRAYER at NATIVITY OF MARY, JANESVILLE: Lent is a time of ”retreat” before the Easter celebrations. During these forty days, in communion with Christ in the desert, each Christian is called to

conversion, to turn our entire being towards God. And, Taize’ Prayer is a wonderful response to that

invitation. This lovely, meditative prayer style combines simple and accessible music, reflective readings, and silence. Plan to be with us on Monday, March 9 at 7:00 p.m. for a peaceful and enriching Lenten prayer experience.
