Liturgical Ministers’ Schedule

TODAY’S READNGS First Reading: The Lord said to David, “You shall shepherd my people Israel” (2 Samuel 5:1-3). Psalm: Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord (Psalm 122). Second Reading: Thanks to the Father who has made you fit to share in the inher-itance of the holy ones in light (Colossians 1:12-20). Gospel — Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom (Luke 23:35-43). The English translation of the Psalm Responses from Lectionary for Mass © 1969, 1981, 1997,

REFLECTION: OF KINGS AND KINGSHIP Americans have an uncomfortable relationship with kings. The American Revolution was fought for independence from King George, after all. Nonetheless, today every Catholic church around the world celebrates the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. Today’s feast invites us to look beyond our national loyalties and rejoice in our primary identity. We are children of God in Jesus, Christ the King. Our readings help us consider what it’s like to belong to God’s kingdom. The book of Samuel captures the deep longing of the Israelites for a king to shepherd them. Saint Paul reminds the Colossians that we belong to the kingdom of Christ, whose power he praises in a beautiful hymn. Finally, Luke’s Gospel calls to mind the kind of king Jesus chooses to be—a suffering servant, a man for others. By sacrificing his life for us, Jesus throws open the gates of Paradise. The Knights of Columbus cannot tabulate the total amount of our do-nations because not all of the bottles have been returned. I can’t speak for you, but I would kinda like to know? Beside that, they are expensive to replace. Let’s be the only church around to have a 100% return on them. So filled,

PLEASE RETURN THE BABY BOTTLES.

Thank you!

SERVANTS OF DIVINE MERCY A MINISTRY OF PRAYER FOR THE VERY ILL & DYING.

Do you have a loved one who is seriously ill? Is your loved one at home, hospice, or a nursing home? Our Lord’s Mission to pro-claim His message of Divine Mercy was entrusted to St. Maria Faustina, whom he taught the Divine Mercy Chaplet, a powerful prayer which helps prepare the sick and dying to receive all the graces God wishes to give. We welcome the opportunity to pray the Chaplet for your loved one, either at their bedside or from our homes. To arrange for the Servants of Divine Mercy Ministry to pray the Chaplet, please contact Karen at 724-600-5007 or [email protected].

Weekly Eucharistic Ministers to the Homebound Needed!

Do you know of a family member, neighbor, or parishioner of Saint Paul Parish who might be in

need of receiving Holy Communion? Perhaps they are temporarily home recuperating from a medical situation, or perhaps they are not able to get to church. We have a wonderful dedicated group of volunteers who take Je-sus to those who cannot be with us on the weekends. The group is in need of more volunteers in order to reach all who are requesting our help.

If you are 18 years of age or older...and feel called to this ministry, please notify the church office (724-834-6880).

You need to: • be in “good standing” (have received the Sacraments

of Baptism, Confirmation and Communion); • have clearances; • have a small amount of training. We hope you are able to help our Parish Community in this most important way! Thank you!

The Prayer Chain is activated every Tuesday evening. If you know someone needing the prayer chain, or if you would like to volun-teer your time on the chain, please call either of the leaders listed below:

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Today’s solemnity, the final feast of the Church year, is a youngster as feasts go. In 1925, Pope Pius XI was distressed by global political upheaval and the de-Christianizing of society. That year was a “Holy Year,” keyed to the sixteen hundredth anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, when the words “and of his kingdom there will be no end” were added to the Creed. The Pope explained that although most feasts had developed over many centuries, the Church sometimes provided a new feast to address new needs. He pointed to the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, showing Christ’s love and compassion in a time when many people embraced a cold and gloomy spirituality. Originally on the last Sunday of October, in the late 1960s the solemnity of Christ the King was moved to the last Sunday of the year.

Fresh from baptism’s waters, we are anointed with chrism “as Christ was anointed priest, prophet, and king.” This feast is a key to our identity. On this feast, we recognize Christ as a king who breaks the usual mold of kingship, and who shapes his kingdom with our hands, our words, our deeds of love and service. —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
