Letter from the Pastor

Dear Parishioners,

Today the penitential tone of our Advent season takes a rest as we celebrate this Third Sunday of Advent—also known as Gaudete Sunday. As we turn to the second half of Advent our hearts begin to explode with the joy of the season. As the feast of the Nativity of the Lord draws closer we are mindful of how truly blessed we are. We rejoice in the Lord today and all days because God has visited his people and set them free.

While Gaudete Sunday is a reminder of the joy we experience through the incarnation we none the less still have work to do before the coming of the Lord in all his glory. While we divert from the idea of penance today we go back to it tomorrow because we know that we are not as ready as we need to be or prepared as we ought to be to receive the Lord into our hearts.

In the midst of our joy we are mindful of those suffering in our world. We are sensitive to those who are lonely or afflicted. We grieve with those who have died and we long for the healing of those who mourn.

Rejoice today and rejoice in the Lord each and every day. From the darkness will come a great light. The Lord of Lords, The Prince of Peace. May his peace and joy be with you.

With Love,

Fr. Sam
