?
Horror films are films that use disturbing
images and disturbing acts of violence to
provoke a reaction of viewers. Most horror
films have an emotional side to them as
the emotional side on most films bring out
the best reactions from viewers. Horror
films are also designed to play withaudiences main fears.

Horror films often use the audiences real
life nightmares and bring them to life, they
do this by using market research and once
they have a good idea they use it because
they know that the nightmare they have
chosen is common so they therefore know
it will produce a common reaction frompeople.

What are horror films designed for
?
Plots within the horror genre often involve
the intrusion of an evil force, event, or
personage, commonly of supernatural
origin, into the everyday world. Prevalent
elements include ghosts, aliens, vampires,
werewolves, demons, vicious animals,
monsters, zombies, cannibals, and serialkillers. They use this so then people
believe supernatural characters are real.

dark and dull setting and background.
Lighting is expressive and normally un
natural.
Narrative: all film follow Todorovs theory
however horror films add a hero and villian
in the mix as well.

The first time of horror events appear inseveral of the silent shorts films created bythe film pioneer Georges Mlis in the late
1890s. The best known being Le Manoirdu diable, which is sometimes credited asbeing the first horror filmever. During theearly period of talking pictures, the
American Movie studio Universal Picturesbegan a successful Gothic horror filmseries. Tod Browning's Draculain 1931.

With advances in technology, the tone of
horror films shifted from the Gothic
towards contemporary concerns. Two sub
genres began to come together the horrorof Armageddon film and the horror of the
demonic film.

This shows us that the main characters son is
being possessed by the evil sprit confirming that
there is a supernatural power at work
