    A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT

Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary TimeWeekend of September 8/9, 2018

St. James teaches that those who are perceived to be poor in the eyes of society are the ones who have been chosen to inherit the Kingdom of God. Indeed, we are saved because of our poverty and redeemed out of our need, not because of our material wealth or achievements that the world finds praiseworthy. St. James also suggests that we are stewards of others, especially the poor and it is how we respond to the poor and needy that will define our relationship with the Lord. Can you identify the poverty, whether spiritual or material, that is in your own life? How can that “poverty” be redeemed? As stewards of others, how do we respond to the poverty that exists right in our own parish?

“Shoes for Children”“Shoes for Children” is a local program with the soul purpose of providing shoes for the children

of the Thompson Falls Elementary School, identified by, and known only to the school, as being in need. Last year, due to the generosity of the Churches, and their Congregations, as well as the Frisbee-Morbella Foundation, the program provided 68 elementary children in need, with a new pair of Sketchers shoes. The program committee would like to continue this worthwhile service for our children in need. If you would like to make a donation this year, a “Shoes for Children” account has been set up at First Security Bank or you can put a check in an envelope with “Shoes for Children” on the front, and drop it in our collection basket.

Please, can you help? You may have noticed that Sue Farrington is back with us this summer. She and her husband will again be traveling to the small fishing village of Ejido

San Lucas, Mexico so Sue is busy gathering donations for her mission work with the village children in need. The items on the wish list this year include children’s white polo shirts, peanut butter, tooth brushes & tooth paste, crayons, children’s socks & underwear, bandaides & antiseptic cream, ball point pens, flip flops, pencil sharpeners (desktop model for classrooms), and stickers. These items can be given directly to Sue or dropped off in the office at St. William. If you would like to donate money and would like your donation on your yearly collection statement, place your donation in an envelope marked Mexico and drop it in the collection basket or bring it to the office (please include your name if you are giving a cash donation). This year there is only one boy, Albierto, attending high school, in need of a scholarship. It costs approximately $600 a year for a student to attend high school. Many high school age children are simply unable to go to school or drop out, due to the cost. Sue will also use cash donation for any medical emergencies in the village. As in the past, Sue will have items to sell at our cake & coffee hour this weekend. All the proceeds will go to her mission work with the village children.

Donations may be given any time through Sunday, September 16th.

The Knights of Columbus want to thank everyone who helped with the Sanders County Fair Bingo Booth. Everything went well and would not have been possible without all the volunteer help. The money raised will be used for the charitable works of the Knights of Columbus. Thanks also to all those who played bingo during the fair!

    God bless you all!

Gary is doing great after getting a pacemaker and some tune-ups. Some medications have been reduced and so has the water retention. Things are working very well now. We want to thank our church family for the on going prayers.God bless...Gary & Lynn Cooper
