STUDENT LED CONFERENCES- WEDNESDAY 28TH & THURSDAY 29TH June. Purpose: Time for your child to shine and share their learning journey so far. Location: Your child’s classroom Student led conferences are an integral part of the PYP helping students to take ownership and responsibility for their learning. We hold these conferences each June to help students realise their goals and set new ones for the remainder of the year. If you have not already booked online; we have provided an interview slip and time which was sent out last week. This is an opportunity for your child to share their learning over the past two terms with you. Your child must accompany you on the day. Your child will be leading the conversation about their learning and showing you examples of their development in various learning areas. We hope you find this a rewarding experience using the report as further evidence of their learning journey so far this year.

STATEMENT OF VALUES-PROMOTING HEALTHY, SAFE AND RESPECTFUL SCHOOL COMMUNITIES Glenroy West Primary School recognises the importance of the partnership between schools and parents to support student learning, engagement and wellbeing. We share a commitment to, and a responsibility for, ensuring inclusive, safe and orderly environments for children and young people. The Statement of Values sets out our behavioural expectations of all members of the school community, including the principal, all staff, parents, students and visitors. It reflects the diversity of individuals in our school community and addresses the shared responsibilities of all members in building safe and respectful school communities. Our Statement of Values acknowledges that parents and school staff are strongly motivated to do their best for every child. Everyone has the right to differing opinions and views and to raise concerns, as long as we do this respectfully as a community working together. ABSENCES When your child is absent or late to school we are required to present a reason for the absence to the Department of Education DET. You are welcome to write a note to the class teacher brought to school by your child on their return. There are other avenues you can use to inform us of your child’s absence. A phone call or an email to the school email, [email protected] . It is very important that children attend school daily except if they are unwell or in extreme circumstances. We know that every day at school counts! There are a few bugs around again and as winter approaches we can expect more. Our teachers also get
sick from time to time and need time away. It is just as important that a teacher does not come to school sick, as it is for a child. Please explain to your child that this is part of life and the school will cover the grade internally or with a replacement teacher who will operate the teacher’s program. Thank you for your understanding.

EVERY DAY COUNTS- ATTENDANCE- IT’S NOT OK TO BE AWAY.EVERY DAY COUNTS We are presently reviewing our processes for daily attendance and ‘lateness.’ DID YOU KNOW YOUR CHILD’S BEST LEARNING TIME IS THE START OF THE SCHOOL DAY? THAT’S WHEN EVERY MINUTE COUNTS THE MOST! It is very important to receive notification from parents or guardians when children are absent from school as we have an accountability to the Department of Education. Please use the following methods to inform us and include your child’s name and grade, date and reason for the absence.
• Phone in
• Written note
• Speak directly to the Classroom teacher. Teachers have a Duty of Care to call parents if a child is absent
more than 2 days.
• Respond to text message
At Glenroy West Primary School we are committed to providing your child with an excellent education. The building blocks of an excellent education begins with all students coming to school each and every day. Regular school attendance is vital and missing school days can have a big impact on a child’s future. Missing one day a fortnight will equate to missing four full weeks by the end of the year. Each day a student misses school puts them behind and can affect their educational outcomes. Some of the reasons for student absence at GWPS
• Staying home to celebrate a birthday
• Going shopping
• Looking after a sibling
• Spending time with a relative
• Extended weekends
• Overseas travel
• Dental and medical appointment
• Illness
If for any reason your child must be absent from school, parents or guardians are required to provide written notification, stating the reason for their child’s absence. This information will be retained by the teacher and archived by the school. This is a DET requirement. OSCH PROGRAM- BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL CARE Please phone OSCH Coordinator Nicole Jackson for any bookings on her Mobile 0423 308 293 or phone the school office on 9306-8955. Kind regards, Have a great week ahead, Pamela Streete. Principal
