Principal’s Report Pamela Streete

Dear Parents/Carers,

Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend and is having a wonderful week. It’s great to see so many parents actively involved in their child’s education and supporting our school. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you are interested in helping in your child’s classroom or assisting in the canteen. We will be welcoming our new preps into the school over the next few weeks as part of their transition program into Glenroy West P.S. on Thursday October 27th and Thursday 3rd November. Walk to School Glenroy West is getting active this month of October with the help of VicHealth Walk to School month initiative. We encourage all students to walk to school during this month. Miss Marr/ PE Teacher. Attendance We want all students to receive a great education hence it is extremely important your child is present at school daily. Missing school can have a major impact on a child’s future- a student missing one day a fortnight will miss 4 weeks by the end of the year. It is important that children develop habits of regular attendance at an early age. Schooling is compulsory for children and young people aged from 6-17 Years unless an exemption from attendance has been granted. Parent Responsibility- Parents are required to ensure their child attends school and to provide an explanation for their child’s absence from school. Punctuality- Parents must ensure their child/children arrive at school by 8.50am to begin the school day. Ongoing ‘lateness’ is not acceptable and has an impact on a child’s learning. Thank you for your ongoing cooperation. Sun Smart Reminder Sun Smart Policy- Important reminder. Due to the higher UV rays at this time of year all children must wear their hats when outdoors. This comes under our Sun smart policy. Thank you for your cooperation.

EVERY DAY COUNTS- ATTENDANCE At Glenroy West Primary School we are committed to providing your child with an excellent education. The building blocks of an excellent education begins with all students coming to school each and every day. Regular school attendance is vital and missing school days can have a big impact on a child’s future. Missing one day a fortnight will equate to missing four full weeks by the end of the year. Each day a student misses school puts them behind and can affect their educational outcomes. Some of the reasons for student absence at GWPS

Staying home to celebrate a birthday

Going shopping

Looking after a sibling

Spending time with a relative

Extended weekends

Overseas travel

Dental and medical appointment

Illness

If for any reason your child must be absent from school, parents or guardians are required to provide written notification, stating the reason for their child’s absence. His information will be retained by the teacher and archived by the school. This is a DET requirement. Dear Parents

This year, Glenroy West Primary School will be holding our annual concert. The title for

this year’s concert is Glenroy West: A Learner’s Journey through the Decades. All

songs through the decades have a link to our IB PYP Program Learner Profile

Attributes/Attitudes.

Each class has chosen their decade and song and are working tirelessly to get everything

into place! The students have also worked cooperatively with one another to choose their

costumes. The songs, costumes and PYP links are all listed below. Some of the costumes

will be drawn and painted on. Students will need to have their costumes organised,

ready and brought to school by Monday November 21st, especially those grades who

will be painting their t-shirts.

Thank you for your support and all students are looking forward to showing you the great work that they have done. Regards, Samantha Marr
