1 From the Helm…. Gary Nasby- Commandant Hiram I. Bearss Det. #089 The Foundation has closed on the new Marine Barracks Indy, and we have a signed lease for the De- tachment to make this their new home. It is now time for all detachment members to step up and make this a place to be proud of, and a place where all Marines can feel at home. A dedicated few members are giving up much of their free time to make this building a showcase that all can be proud of, and I appreciate all of their efforts. But by my count less than 20 is the number of members that have come to answer my call for work parties. That calculates to 10% of our mem- bership roll. I am told that that is the “Norm” for vol- unteer organizations, but we as Marines are not the “Norm”. Those of you that do have some time to vol- unteer, please do so as all skill levels are needed. Work parties will be held throughout this month, most everyday starting at 0900. Come and join us in mak- ing this a premiere Marine Corps League Detachment home. Call me if you have time to donate and need to know when you are needed. Please excuse the newsletter this month for lateness and lack of content. All my free time is being spent working at the new Barracks. Upcoming events are the Marine Corps Ball on Nov. 13th, (see page 11), Indy 1500 Gun show– Oct. 22-24, and the Veterans day Parade Downtown Nov. 11th.
