The student, Keletso Matsemela, Tebatso Paledi and Lerato Mohlamonyane opened a case just after they were released with a free bail, following their arrest on Friday 20 May. This comes after the college management and IEC failed to announced that the SRC elections results that were held the same day in the college. Now students from two rivals organiza- tions in the campus, Sekhukhune Express Move- ment and South African Students Congress (SASCO) play the blame game accusing each other for causing the riots that erupted in the campus. Sekhukhune Express Movement Secretary Keletso Matsemela said a meeting was held by the management of the college and organizations to come with resolutions in the matter. She said the management told them that there will be no re-elections in the college until next year. “Students got angry about the management’s decision and they are now up in arms demanding to practice their rights by electing their leadership in the campus. We feel like this is a violation of our democratic rights. Students are angry and vow to disrupt classes until their demands are met,” she said. Attempts to reach Sekhukhune TVET Spokesper- son Abicky Kgolane went fruitless as he did not answer his cellphone. He also failed to respond to SMSes sent by the Dispatch. results on Tuesday 17 May. On Friday, the police were highly visible at the college when students started singing and chanting at the college’s entrance. The police reacted by firing rubber bullets to dis- perse the students and managed to arrest three female and they were charged with public violence. After being released with free bail, the students wereurged to be taken to Groblersdal Hospital for treat-ment. “The police asked whether Matsemela wasamongst the arrested students when we arrive at thestation. It is like they were aiming to arrestSekhukhune Express Movement leaders,” saidKeletso Matsemela. She said Sekhukhune Expresswill continue fighting for the democratic elections ofSRC in the college. Sekhukhune Congress leaderPastor Derrick Mosoana said the organization inter-vened in the assault case and has handed over theissue to its legal department. Mosoana said thestudents were arrested unlawfully and the case mustbe withdrawn. “We provided all necessarydocumentations to the party’s lawyers led by Ad-vocate Rammilane Maisela. We demand that thematter should immediately be referred to the Inde-pendent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).Mosoana said the party held a number of meetingwith students seeking way forward in the matter andthey will be continuing supporting students toensure that they a democratic SRC elections.

Residents of Mabitsi and Serithing in Ephraim MogaleWard 12 have been living without drinkable water fora year. Residents claim that the taps went dry lastyear leaving them without any source of clean water.They claim that they survive by drawing water fromthe nearby streams and holes for drinking and house-hold purposes. A community leader, DecemberMokomane, told the Dispatch that the communitywas promised water supply by the ward councillorGeorge Phala. He said the community was relievedand took their containers to the spots where thecouncillor promised the water trucks will stop. Headded that the community waited the whole day onTuesday 17 May for the water trucks but they didnot arrive. “It has been almost two weeks now andwe are still waiting for the councillor to provide uswith water,” he said. He said the community relieson holes and pools to access water. He added that thewater is dirty but the community continues to useit as a result of the municipality’s failure to providedrinkable water. Mokomane added that the sources

The event was heldat the shop’s main entrance in Groblersdal Town onSaturday 21 May.Teams and individuals were welcomed to join bypaying a little amount of R5-00. All the money wasdonated to a charity organization at the Ndlovu CareGroup in Elandsdoorn, Dennilton.“After the community showed us support all theseyears, we feel that a more organized way is neededto give back to society in the form of donations. Ouraim is to donate to the neediest people so that theycould get warm clothes and blankets to cover up thiswinter. I can assure you that every cent we make heregoes directly to the charity,” said Hyper SaveGroblersdal Manager, Jaco Wolmerans.

The Tafelkop based Thabantsho Community Radio Station suspended itsmanagement. The suspension took place on Tuesday 10 May. The publicbroadcaster’s suspended management claims Thabantsho Community Radioboard members suspended them for no reason. They told the Dispatch that theywere surprised when they were given suspension letters stating only that theywere suspended until further notice. The radio station started broadcasting forthe first time on Wednesday 27 April where a number of listeners were givena slot to greet their friends and families live on air. The board suspended StationManager Kedibone Thobejane, Marketing Manager Anthony Mampuru, Pro-grammes Manager Mogau Matsimela, Technical Director Donald Matjila andthe Administrator Katlego Mathunyane. The suspended Station Manager,Kedibone Thobejane told the Dispatch that they were given suspension lettersand were told that they will be suspended until a pending investigation isfinalised. “They were not clear what investigation they were talking about onthe day we were suspended. After experiencing a huge service delivery inSterkfontein Village, residents took a stand anddecided to have their own ward and a local councillorwho will be representing them in the coming LocalGovernment Elections. Previously, the village wasdivided into three sections belonging to other wardsin villages such as Tafelkop and Luckau under EliasMotsoaledi Local Municipality. Villagers’ plea tohave their own ward did not fell in deaf ears when theChairperson of the National Delimitation BoardJane Thupana announced that Sterkfontein willindependently have its ward.The community then approached a local business-man, Hebert Radingwane, a taxi operator inGroblersdal. The community had faith in Radingwaneas he has done a number of donations to the needyin the area. They then decided that he must be the nextcandidate to contest for Elias Motsoaledi Ward 29regardless of a political organization of his choice.Radingwane said he was an ANC card carryingmember at the time and agreed to take part as acandidate in the coming elections. He said someunhappy people within the ANC started sabotaging

Sterkfontein community had their weekend filledwith sporting activities where they were entertainedby local soccer and netball on Saturday 21 May. Thetournament formed a part of the Hebzer Sports andSkills Development Organization (HS & DOS),sponsored by a local businessman, HerbertRadingwane. Radingwana, a local taxi owner/opera-tor in Groblersdal said the event is held annually togive children a platform to show off their skills andtalent. He said the tournament is also aimed toentertain the community. The tournament started at10:00 where people were entertained by local DJ’sand dancers before the kick off. The opening matchwas played played between Bela Bela FC U/15 andand New Stands FC U/15. The match was anticipat-ing and gave the tournament the spark it needed asit was the most exciting part of the day. Spectatorsenjoyed and were cheering as they witness the bestdribbling skills displayed by local U/ 15 players.New Stands FC won the final, beating Bela Bela FCon penalties with a 5-3 score after a goalless draw.One of the highlight in the tournament was a match

All Stars’Pontsho Lekgwathi was at his best when he gave thedefenders of Vlaka FC a tough time and netted hissecond goal to secure a position in the final. The firstsemi-final between Rangers FC and Powerline FCwas decided on penalties after a goalless draw.Rangers advanced to the final by defeating PowerlineFC 5-3. Rangers FC was crowned the winner of thetournament after defeating All Stars Eleven with a 1-0 goal in the final match. Ladies were also featuredin the tournament when they were included innetball. Local players battled against neighbouringcommunities and they delivered a spectacular per-formance fit for the beautiful spectators who cameto enjoy sport entertainment at its best irrespectiveof the cold weather. Mabintane NC defeated RangersNC by 21 goals to 17 in the first semi-final. MonsterlusNC defeated Rangers NC by 21 goals to 12.Monsterlus was crowned the champions of thetournament after defeating Mabintane by 20 goals to15.

Tafelkop Cricket Club (TCC) ladies team has madeit in the list of teams that will be taking part in theKFC Mini League. The team will be starting to takepart in the KFC League soon after their good per-formance in matches they played recently.Now the team has decided to visit schools on sportsdays to recruit more talented under 15/17 playerswho will be included in the TCC squad this season.“This came at the good time just after we havewelcome over 20 players from Matsepe PrimarySchool,” said TCC Public Relations Officer,Khomotso Paile. “We believe TCC will promote women in cricketand make sure more teenage girls join and support.We would also use the platform to address dailychallenges that are faced by teenage girls and helpthem build their confidence by become the best in thesporting code of their choice,” he said.

Groblersdal Hospital FC hosted Dennilton SAPSFC for a friendly soccer match organized at GroblersdalRugby Stadium on Wednesday 18 May. The match,that saw a number of spectators attending, started at15:30.The opening goal was made by Nunu, a counterattack in the box dribbling the goalie and score in openpoles, 1-0 it was to Dennilton SAPS. After the goalSAPS started dominating in the mid-field, trying toscore on long ranges but shots went off target.Towards the 40th minute, Nunu scored the visitor’ssecond goal after a corner taken by Wanda to Bvumawho was in the box, the ball was passed to Nunu whowas in good position and he scored a brace for hisside, 2-0 it was to Dennilton SAPS.The hosts continued the pressure and scored anequalizer in the 71st minute, a long range out of thebox to beat Xavi, 2-1 it was.Towards the end of the match, Groblersdal Hospitalhad a chance to equalize when Oupa penetratethrough SAPS defenders entering the box, he missedwhen his shot went off target facing the goalie. Thematch ended 2-1 to Dennilton SAPS FC defeatingGroblersdal Hospital FC in a friendly soccer match.
