THE MERCY, POWER, AND LOVE OF GOD The first reading today, from the book of Wisdom, makes its point over and over, at least five times in five verses! God is mighty, but lenient to all. God’s power is shown in kindness and clemency, not
in harshness and condemnation, and those who govern God’s people must govern in the same way, with kindness. This loving kindness and gentleness is not contrary to God’s might, but is a
direct result of God’s primacy over all. Who are we, then, to judge what is in the hearts of our fellow Christians and all people, when
God commands justice with love and clemency?
Likewise, the Holy Spirit makes up for our ignorance of what we need, speaking in a language we do not yet understand. But God
knows our needs before we do, understands the intercessions of the Spirit, and helps us in our weakness.
This is our hope: God’s mercy, power, and love. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Do you have a hunger for spiritual enlightenment? Are you looking for a
program that will help you spiritually? Please consider the following information.
Discernment of spirits is the interpretation of what St. Ignatius Loyola called the “motions
of the soul.” These interior movements consist of thoughts, imaginings, emotions,
inclinations, desires, feelings, repulsions, and attractions. Spiritual discernment of spirits
involves becoming sensitive to these movements, reflecting on them, and
understanding where they come from and where they lead us. We will be using the
following textbooks: The Discernment of Spirits: An Ignatian
Guide for Everyday Living and The Examen Prayer: Ignatian Wisdom for Our Lives Today
by Timothy M Gallagher, OMV. The class will begin on Thursday, September
7, 2017, in Immaculata Hall, Immaculate Conception Church, North Little Rock.
To enroll or for more information contact: Ramona Bourdo 501-831-5040 or [email protected]
POST-ABORTION SUPPORT GROUP: Do you feel alone, hurting or unforgiven from a past abortion? The Respect Life Office, through
Project Rachel, is starting a support group, beginning the third week in
September. The spiritual journey lasts 11 weeks, with small groups of 6-8. Groups will
be formed in Little Rock, Rogers/Springdale and Hot Springs areas.
All names and meeting places are strictly confidential. For details call 501-664-0340, ext.
357 or email: [email protected]. All inquiries must be made by September 18.
Mental Health Support Group The St. Dymphna Society, a peer support
group for people with mental health challenges, continues to meet the last
Tuesday of each month. Meetings are in Morris Hall at St. John Center at 6:00 p.m.
When a priest is available, Mass is celebrated. Otherwise, we pray the Rosary together or hold a prayer service. Please
call Rebecca Cargile at 664-0340 ext. 355 if you have any questions. No reservations
are necessary, and all are welcome!
