the Day of Resurrection (YAUM-AL-QIYAA-MAH) will you

be requited in full [for whatever you have done] -

(AN-NAAR) and brought into paradise (AL-JANNAH) will

indeed have gained a triumph (FAAZ): for the life of this

world (HAYAA-TID-DUNYA) is nothing but an enjoyment

of self-delusion (GHURUR).”

“O you who have believed, shall I guide you to a transaction that will

save you from a painful punishment? [It is that] you (TU’-MINUU)

believe in Allah and His Messenger and (TU-JAA-HIDUU) strive in the

cause of Allah (SABEELILLAAH) with your wealth (AMWAA-LIKUM) and

your lives (ANFUSIKUM). That is best for you, if you should know. He

will forgive for you your sins and admit you to gardens beneath which

rivers flow and pleasant dwellings in gardens of perpetual residence.

That is the great attainment (FAUZUL-’AZEEM).”

I (Masruq r.a.) asked `Aisha r.a. "What deed was the most beloved to

the Prophet?" She said, "The regular constant one (DAA-IM)." I said,

"At what time did he use to get up at night (for the TAHAJJUD -night

prayer)?' She said, "He ملسو هيلع هللا ىلصملسو هيلع هللا ىلص s.a.a.w. s.a.a.w. used to get up on hearing (the

crowing of) the cock (the last third of the night).”

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلصملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said: “Is any one of you incapable of reciting

a third of the Qur'an in a night? They (the Companions) asked:

‘How could one recite a third of the Qur'an (in a night)?’ Upon

this he ملسو هيلع هللا ىلصملسو هيلع هللا ىلص (the Holy Prophet) said: "'Say: He is Allah, One'

(Qur'an: Surah 112) is equivalent to a third of the Qur'an.“

approached unlike any other book.

It is sad that we Muslims sometimes do not even know that there

are ADAB concerning how we are to approach the Qur’an. Thus the lack

of these adab only obstruct us from its benefits.

We are to be aware of the value of the Qur’an.

Condition of the recite:

purity, politeness and quietness, facing the Qiblah

Amount to be recited – not forgetting to ensure understanding

what is being recited. Although you may not know Arabic, today

there are translations available (admittedly translation may not be

perfect, yet it can give some understanding of the meaning of the

Qur’an).

Recite it in slow and distinct manner (tartil) - middle tone-

Tajwid, makhraj, qalqalah, etc - beautify it melodiously.

“Those who are proficient in reciting the Qur’an will be

amongst the ranks noble of angels in servitude;

And as for those still struggling (to learn) with difficulty reciting

will receive double (the reward).”

Some merely regard the mere verbalising from the Qur’an as

enough but does not go further into making efforts to understanding

the message and implementing it. Allah admonishes us:

“Whosoever speaks (elaborates) upon the Qur’an

without knowledge, let him prepare to be placed in Hell”
