Letter from the executive PresidentDear members, neighbors, and friends: We are pleased and honored for the opportunity to have hosted several events for delegates from other countries this quarter. We were appointed the exclusive position to exchange information and ideas about the Shale Energy industry by introducing John Prato,Canadian Consul General, to leaders in theSouthpointe area and surrounding communities. Our Canadian delegates were most impressed with ourarray of energy companies in Southpointe. Details were handled by Ana Marie Rodriguez and Sandy Marr to set up a week of events with John Prato and Canadian Ambassador Gary Doer. Press coverage was significant with the Canadian visitors, Stanley Cup display and the Canadian Hockey Hall of fame inattendance. Later in April we hosted a breakfast with the United Kingdom delegates to discuss their interest in thenatural gas industry. Last, we are in the process of finalizing the 501(c) foundation and non-profit status for our chamber. This will be a great fund raising vehicle for scholarships, seminars and community awareness projects. Don’t forget to join the 150 executives who attend our network lunch events each month and 6,000subscribers of our email news broadcasts, 21,000magazine readers. Our monthly networking event is held at Bella Sera with Jason Capps, chef/owner, as our host.

As always, we would like to havebreakfast, lunch or cocktails with you to discuss your business and how the Southpointe Marcellus Shale

Chamber can help you grow.Contact [email protected] or 724-873-7777

By Timothy Puko Published: Monday, March 10, 2014, 10:10 p.m.

Dropping an anchor in Pittsburgh was an easy choice for executives at Noble Energy Inc. The Houston-based driller

is settling into a headquarters across the street from Range Resources Corp., the largest landholder among shale drillers in Western Pennsylvania, and Consol Energy Inc., the oldest local company working the Marcellus shale. The six-story building in Cecil's Southpointedevelopment that Noble will lease sits among acluster of peers and service contractors, with easyinterstate access to its well sites in Washington County and West Virginia. The Marcellus “is quickly shaping up to be a world-class play,” said Bob Ovitz, senior operations manager for Noble's Marcellus business unit. “Southpointe is sort of the nexus, the epicenter of what's going on out here. This is a great regional hub for the industry.” That hub stretches from the Washington County business park to Cranberry in Butler County. About a dozen drilling companies, big and small, and most of the biggest Marcellus shale-gas producers in Pennsylvania chose to be here, even some that drill mostly in Eastern Pennsylvania and those, such as Noble, that do a lot in West Virginia. It's a unique opportunity for the region, putting Pitts-burgh atop the Appalachian energy industry's supply chain, economic experts said. Rigs move and field offices close when the rigs go, but the corporate presence taking root in Pittsburgh is a constant that can withstand the whims of a boom-and-bust industry, they said. The drilling companies draw pipeline companies such as Williams and MarkWest, and service companies such as Halliburton. Law firms and engineering and environmental consultants follow. Clustering in Pittsburgh offers them access to finance, skilled workers and culture, centrally located between drilling hot spots in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and eastern Ohio, experts said. “Pittsburgh is the place that has all of that at once,” said Kurt Rankin, an economist with PNC Financial Services Group. “Any firm that has hopes of being part of the natural gas revolution in the United States, and in particular focused on the Marcellus shale, is going to want to be a regionalpresence (here), with people on the ground who understand

the marketplace in Pittsburgh.” There's hope thatpetrochemical makers and manufacturers will locate here as well, to take advantage of cheap natural gas. The gasindustry could become like the coal industry that broughtnatural resource companies and steel-making that hassurvived in the region for more than 100 years, said Chris Briem, regional economist at the University of Pittsburgh. “It's a fortunate accident of geography, millennia old,” he said. About a dozen shale drillers are in the Pittsburgh area, most along Interstate 79, including Royal Dutch Shell plc and Exxon Mobil Corp. and midsized companies such as Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. and Talisman Energy Inc. Suburban locations give them quick access to Pittsburgh International Airport and field sites around the countryside. The trend —

building for a while — is ongoing. Chevron Corp. spent $17.5 million last year to buy land in Moon, closer to the airport. Township officials have said it could be a regional headquarters with 1,000 to 1,500 workers, though Chevron has yet to confirm that. Rice Energy Inc., which just went public, has a headquarters under construction in Southpointe and plans to move in June 1. “For us, it's proximity to our acreage in Washington and Greene counties … and Belmont County in Ohio,” said Jamie Rogers, a vice president at Rice, which is outgrowing a suite at Southpointe. “So many of the service companies have now migrated to Southpointe, especially, it really does simplify doing business.”

Consol to Export Ethane from Washington County to Europe PITTSBURGH -- Consol Energy Inc. has entered into agreement with Ineos Europe AG, part of the Ineos Group, to export ethane via Sunoco Logistics' Mariner Eastinfrastructure and the Marcus Hook Delaware River port for use in Ineos' European cracker complexes.

The agreement builds on plans to transport high-value propane and ethane by pipeline from western Pennsylvania to Marcus Hook, where the materials will be processed and shipped by sea to domestic and export markets, Consol said. This is the second ethane transaction that Consol Energy

recently announced; the first was with Royal Dutch Shell to supply ethane to its planned cracker facility in Beaver County, Pa. "This agreement, and others like it, signify a vote of confidence that the Marcellus Shale resource base represents a long-term,reliable energy supply for industrial users both at home and abroad," said Nick DeIuliis, president of Consol Energy, in a prepared statement. "We are pleased to partner with Ineos as we continue to expand uponopportunities to diversify end-user markets for our region's natural gas products." Recent industry investment in midstream infrastructure is providing access to newopportunities by connecting the areasproducing "wet" gas in Western Pennsylvania to international markets linked to the Port ofPhiladelphia, as well as other active and planned export facilities, Consol said in itsannouncement.

LifeStyle: Health

by Steven C. Morreale, M.D./M.P.H.

Yes, you read that correctly. Do nothing for five minutes! A study from Oregon Health Sciences University re-vealed that overweight women who had taken up relaxation techniques lost an average of ten pounds…without trying. It is reasoned that these women were less stressed; they weren’t flooding their body with stress hormones, which are known to increase appetite. So, find a quiet, comfortable place. Close your

eyes and breathe deeply for five minutes each day. This finding emphasizes the importance of stress reduction and mindfulness to creating health in our lives. A great way to reduce the effects of our life's stressors is to relax by focusing our attention on our breathing. Close your eyes, take a slow deep breath and count how long it takes to fully inhale. Then count how long it takes to slowly exhale. Slowly shift your attention's focus to your breathing pattern and slightly adjust it so that you inhale for twice as long as you exhale. Doing this exercise will lower your stress hormone levels. You can then gently shift your focus to your healthy posture. Simply engaging more of your core muscles when you sit, stand or walk will burn more calories than when you aren't paying at-tention on fully engaging and using those muscles. It's amazing what a few minutes a day can do for our health. Five minutes can allow us to plan our healthy fuelings that will carry us through the day. It is recommended that we begin our day with a glass of water and to eat within thirty minutes of getting up. Plan to schedule 5 healthy fuelings once every three hours combined with a low calorie low gly-cemic dinner. What's a healthy fueling? Low-glycemic, low fat fuels that have a healthy amount of protein tend to keep us more satisfied and energized and help ward off episodes of being “hangry” - which is a made-up word to denote the phenomenon of increased irritability and aggressiveness that happens due to hunger. We can each increase our well being with other simple but meaningful activities, like making time to see a friend, taking a short walk, starting a scrapbook of happy memories, or helping others by giving blood or inviting someone to go for a walk with us. I recommend to my clients that they become an active participant in a support network and to make their own dream board or vision board. It may sound hokey but these boards work. Simply collect images that represent your future self with radiant health enjoying all of the things and activities that you want to enjoy in life. These images serve

as your personal daily reminder of the healthy mindset and healthy habits you are cultivating that depict the life and health you want to have and enjoy that each healthy choice you make is creating. We have mentors and coaches for all sorts of life events and skills we want to master, why not find one for your health? I provide free health coaching to my clients to help them focus on optimizing five key areas of their health that are the foundation of longterm optimal health – healthy mindset and stress reduction, healthy sleep, healthy nutrition, healthy motion, as well as reaching and maintaining a healthy weight for life. Optimal health is being the best we can be in order to live a longer, healthier and happier life. If you could have optimal health, would you want to become resolved right now to doing the small steps each day that will lead you to having and enjoying your optimal health? If you are saying yes, that's great... let's get started! Together we'll help get ourselves, our families, friends and neighbors in America healthy! Today is a great day to catch the wave of an optimal health movement, an American renaissance that is ushering in a new era of medicine that empowers patients to achieve their best health possible!

Dominick and Karen Bovalina, owners of the new Zoup! Southpointe Town Center, were first attracted to the concept because of its unique menu and array of nutritional options. "Not only do we serve 12

always-rotating daily soups and made-to-order salads andsandwiches," says Karen, "but we also offer "something for everyone" nutritional options, including low-fat,vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free." The restaurant also features an Enlightened Menu, with plenty of items for calorie counters. To help customers make their selections, nutritionaloptions are clearly identified on the menu boards andwebsite, and sampling is encouraged. According to Karen, "We really want customers to try our soups beforeordering; it's a lot of fun and it helps ensure that everybody loves what they get." Customer favorites include Chicken Potpie and Lobster Bisque. The restaurant, which kicked off its April 10th opening with a community fundraiser for Family Promise, is located at 1900 Main St., Suite 111 in Canonsburg, PA. Daily soups are listed at zoup.com where visitors can order ahead for quick pick-up and sign up for a daily email menu.

Burleson LLP to take 23,400 square feet above Southpointe Town Center

Burleson LLP is ready for its fourth move and expansion within Southpointe. This time, the energy law firm is moving from a 17,000-square-foot office at the first phase of Southpointe into a new 23,400-square-foot office above the retail town square at South-pointe II, a location that will put the firm close to established oil and gas clients such as Range Resources Corp. (NYSE: RRC) and

Noble Energy Inc. (NYSE: NBL), whose offices are in walking distance. "I’m confident we’ll be very comfortable there,” said Kevin Colosimo, the Pittsburgh managing partner of the new space, which allows the firm

to move out of three separate suites into one larger space. The move is expected to hap-pen any day as Burleson works through getting its phone and internet connection hooked up.“It’s an expansion for space, which we need,” said Colo-simo. “But it’s also for configu-ration issues.”

Canadian Consul General John F. Prato said natural gas from the Marcellus region is playing a big role in Ontario: Just under 30 percent of the natural gas used daily in the province coming from the Marcellus Shale. The Canadian Consulate General set up a temporary consulate in Pittsburgh April 7-11. On Tuesday, the Consulate General andSouthpointe Chamber of Commerce hosted an Energy Innovation Summit as part of the

Pop-Up! Canada festivities. “The reason we’re here is be-cause we are taking what is already a strong relationship and making it stronger for both Canada and the Commonwealth,” he said. In a panel discussion, John Hotz, vice president of corporate strategy for Nova Chemicals Corp., said shale gas from the Marcellus has had a significant impact on thecompany's operations. Nova is based in Alberta but maintains a strongmanufacturing and corporate presence in the Pittsburghregion. It was facing challenges as natural gas liquids inAlberta began to wane while at the same time crude oil prices were rising.“Then along came this thing called horizontal drilling and fracking,” Hotz said. “But the innovation for Nova came about as we took a step back to think about how to take advantage of the emergence of shale natural gas.”In Ontario, as the production of shale gas started to increase and become more economical, Hotz said Nova was able to begin purchasing non-discretionary ethane that wet gasproducers were required to remove in order to transport the gas by pipeline. “This emergence of shale gas was really a once in a lifetime, or once in a careeropportunity,” he said. Since December, Nova has been relying on ethane from the Mariner West pipeline, which is operated by Sunoco Logistics, and transports ethane from the Marcellus Shale and western Pennsylvania to the Ontario petrochemical market. Hotz said the company expects to be operating the Ontario cracker at full capacity in the third quarter. With the increase in available ethane, Nova spent about $250 million on upgrades to increase capacity and Hotz said the company is studying further expansion.
