As of June, sales of the Uncharted series had passed 21 million copies.Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End launches on PlayStation 4 in March 2016, and it will likely wind up among the best selling games on the platform.

Sony is also developing a movie based on the Uncharted series. The adaptation is set to hit screens in 2017.

First released on PlayStation 3 in 2013, The Last of Us stands as one of the most critically and commercially successful new gaming IPs in the last decade.A sequel has not been announced, but continuing the series on PlayStation 4 is a likely move from Sony.

Sony’s all-female Ghostbusters is set to release in America on July 16, 2016, and the company’s consumer products division expects that the new take on the franchise will drive significant merchandise sales.

Sony has also expressed interest in building an expanded film universe around the Ghostbusters property, though it’s unclear if it’s moving ahead with the plan.

• In addition to the five franchises discussed in this presentation, Sony also has new installments in movie properties such as Men in Black and Jump Street in development, and video game series such as God of War to make use of.

• Even so, Sony’s stable of established entertainment franchises does not currently stand out as strong in comparison to the competition.

• On the video game front, Sony has some strong first-party franchises for the PlayStation 4, but Microsoft’s lineup for the Xbox One looks even stronger. Even so, Sony’s console will likely continue to sell in great numbers.

• Sony likely needs to create successful, new video game and movie IPs if entertainment is to be a major component of a sustained turnaround.
