NEWSLETTER NEWSLETTER SPRING 2020 From the Longevity Health Center Team 2045 Main Street, Wailuku, Maui • 808.242.8844 • LongevityHealthMaui.com A letter from Jeffrey A Tice, DACM, LAc. I wanted to reach out with some updates regarding services provided by our team at Longevity Health Center. Amidst the quarantining and heightened hygiene practices ordered by our elected officials following suggestions by our medical community, we would like to weigh in endorsing and offering full agreement with the prescribed practices. As a result, many of the services offered by our team at Longevity Health Center have been temporarily suspended. We will not offer any group-setting programs until at least May 2020. This includes our somatics education classes and our community acupuncture clinic. Our team of Licensed Massage Therapists have all suspended their practices for a couple weeks as have our Chiropractic doctor. Massage and chiropractic will resume when appropriate, but not before April 6, 2020. We currently continue to offer private acupuncture and herbal prescription services. Established acupuncture patients may be pre-screened prior to scheduled appointments with limited availability. We are staggering patient arrivals and encourage only the pre-scheduled patient to enter the office and not have contact with one another. In order to continue to offer this service, we ask for your understanding regarding our policies as we attempt to maintain hygiene and safety standards as described by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (cdc.gov). Alternately, for those who are either unable or simply choose to not come in for acupuncture, we are continuing to offer support in various ways. First, our front desk staff will continue to answer your calls and help answer your questions and concerns regarding any of our services. If you desire or require more specific medical support, we offer telemedicine consults for established patients. As each person’s needs are unique and will vary, so will be the type of support. In these challenging times coping with the COVID-19 quarantine, some people may just need to speak with a reassuring voice, some people may need lifestyle suggestions relating to exercise and diet. Herbal prescriptions can be formulated from a telemedicine consult, paid by credit card over the phone and picked up curbside. Further education on the global pandemic and interest in a historical perspective of epidemiology and how it relates to Traditional Chinese Medicine can also be shared if so desired. Please stay informed with these suggested resources instead if relying upon cable news, or social media, which can both be sources of measured entertainment. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html https://health.hawaii.gov/coronavirusdisease2019 https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019 Beyond hand washing with soap and warm water, resting and eating well, we maintain insistence upon the mandated practice of social distancing! However we prefer to call it Physical Distancing. Please remember this term instead of ‘Social’ distancing as remaining socially connected to family and friends is important for your overall health and immune system vitality. You can use Skype, FaceTime, or other video conferencing applications to have face-to-face communications, or simply call loved ones on the phone to connect. Going for daily walks around the neighborhood with a six foot distance between people is another healthy practice. The message I am hoping I’ve shared is that even though we are all practicing physical distancing and many of our services are temporarily unavailable, our staff and team of providers at Longevity Health Center remain committed in supporting each and everyone in our community through this difficult time. Our methods may be modified, but our compassion is greater than ever. Please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected] or call our wonderful staff at 808-242-8844.
