These words of our Savior seem to be in stark contrast to the previ- ous chapter from the same Gospel, when we were told that if we do not take up our crosses, we are not worthy of Christ. Connecting these two messages might help us on our faith journeys. Being a follower of Christ surely means that we must embrace the cross, in its mystery of both suffering and triumph. This is something that we need not do alone, for the burden is often too heavy for us to carry by our- selves. Who, then, do we turn to? We can turn to the Body of Christ—the community of disciples gathered for wor- ship. When we find the burden too heavy, let us re- member that we can share that burden with our Chris- tian sisters and brothers, who can help bring us rest. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

July 6: SAINT MARIA GORETTI (1890-1902) Does anything match a mother’s pride in her children? First Communions, confirma ons, gradua ons, weddings: how these delight a mother’s heart! Imagine, then, Assunta Gore , the only mother ever to a end her child’s canoniza on! In poverty-stricken rural Italy, widowed Assunta tended fields for the Serenelli family, whose eighteen-year-old son, Alessandro, proposi oned her barely twelve-year-old Maria; then, when she resisted, crying, “It is a sin! God forbids it!” he stabbed her fourteen mes. As she lay dying, Maria assured the a ending priest, “Yes, I forgive Alessandro! I want him to be in Paradise with me someday.”

Imprisoned, unrepentant, Alessandro changed a er dreaming that a radiant Maria had offered him fourteen lilies. “I’ve kept my promise,” she smiled. “You’ll be here with me someday.” Upon release, he rushed to beg Assunta’s forgiveness. “Jesus has forgiven you,” she replied, “my Maria, too. How can I refuse?” Next morning, mother and murderer walked arm in arm to church and knelt side by side for Communion.

The Rosary, followed by the Divine Mercy Chaplet, is prayed at church on Mondays at 6:30 p.m.

Prayers are offered for victims of abuse, all priests and all religious, and for healing within the church.

we will also be hosting a THIRD missionary team that will be leading our Totus Tuus, July 12-17!

DON’T MISS THIS GREAT WEEK OF FAITH BUILDING!

Team Our Lady of Perpetual Help (From le , Sam Minarik, Madison Rial, Natalie Clark, Jacob Streumph)

Sam Minarik I’m going to be a junior at Benedic ne College in Atchison Kansas. Currently I’m studying Mechanical Engineering. Although I’m serving in Jefferson City Diocese, I am originally from Algonquin Illinois, which is about an hour and a half north and west of Chicago. Some-thing I love to do in free me is play music, and play sports. Madison Rial I am a junior at the University of Missouri. I am originally from Iowa but came to Missouri to study Human Development and Family Sci-ence. I hope to become a child life specialist to help children of all ages cope with the stress of hospitaliza on. I love children of all ages, and if my schooling has taught me anything, it would be that love is the best thing you can give anyone! I am passionate about making holy rela onships within families and friends, but mostly with Jesus. Natalie Clark I am from St. Joseph Parish in Edina. I just completed a gap year (or what I like to refer to as an empowerment year) and will be a end-ing Benedic ne College in Atchison, Kansas as a freshman in the fall. I've spent most of my me this last year in St. Louis, working amid the theatre scene, exploring adora on chapels, learning to roller skate, and discerning what God has in mind for me in my next step. I am eager to round out my year of discernment with this opportunity to teach Totus Tuus; what be er way to grow in faith than to serve? Jacob Streumph Why am I back for a third year of Totus Tuus? Our youth are starving

for love, purpose, and truth. I am eager to lead them toward the joy that they will never find in this world of vain promises. I’ve encoun-tered the Living God and I’m 100 percent convinced that nothing else will ever sa sfy the deep desires of the human heart. Our salva on requires an in mate rela onship with God, for “unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (John 3:5). I refuse to stand by as the devil lures many souls to hell by con-vincing them that they don’t need to pray. To Jesus through Mary!

Dear Members of SS. Peter and Paul Parish, In this troubling time, we look for the bright spots. Your very gen-erous contribution to the Ministerial Alli-ance is one of those. This pandemic plus

on-going needs have shown what a caring community we have. Thank you so much to your parish. In Christ’s Name, Phyllis Reesman Dear Parishioners: On behalf of the board of Neighbors Help-ing Neighbors, I want to thank you for your generous donation of 202 pounds of food during the first quarter of this year. Through mid-April, members of 407 families have come to the pantry at least once for food. We are very fortunate that there are so many supportive people in the community. Thank you for your continued generosity. Sincerely, Jeanne M. Pascale
