PARISH MISSION May 13—17, 2017 WHAT IS A MISSION? Are you so involved in scurrying around with business, children, family, social activities that you have little time for quiet contemplation with God? A mission is a time of

special grace when God calls us into a deeper relationship with Him, a time for personal growth, a time to listen to God, a time of spiritual refreshment and invigoration. WHO IS A MISSION FOR? The Mission is for all people, from inactive to very active. It is for all ages and for any stage in life — married, single, divorced, separated, widow, etc. We particularly invite those who want to know more about the church today and how it can take an active role in the everyday experiences of work, leisure, family, and politics. WHAT FORM WILL THIS MISSION TAKE? Each evening there will be a special parish mass and homily designated to increase our spirituality. A social will follow in the hall to enhance our feeling of parish community. The mission priest will be available for informal chats and questions and answers. So that all may attend, other parish functions will be canceled during Mission Week. WHO WILL LEAD THE MISSION? Fr. Richard Gielow, C.M. was born in Lasalle, IL. He was ordained a priest in the Congregation of the Mission, and has served as Director of Vocations, Principal and Rector of a High School Seminary, and Director and member of the Vincentian Parish Mission Center. Father Gielow holds degrees in Philosophy and Theology from DeAndreis Institute of Theology and Religious Education from Catholic University of America. Father Geilow is currently the Director of the Vincentian Parish Mission Center, and is National Spiritual Advisor to the Ladies of Charity of USA, as well as National Spiritual Advisor to a Fraternal Organization called KSKJ.

As you know, one of the Corporal Works of Mercy is visiting the sick. This is an important ministry at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and School. Father Basil heads up ministers that visit the sick and bring Holly Communion each week. Although not able to attend Mass, they are a vital part of our parish and are very grateful to receive Communion and visits from our dedicated ministers. There have been many faithful ministers throughout the years. Current ministers are Pat Davis, Mary Ellen Kosky, Julie Soener, Rosemary Kraus, Gretchen Twenter, and Paula Wiemholt. Do you have time to help? New ministers are always welcome. Father Basil also has monthly Masses for residents of Ashley Manor and Hartman Village. Mass at Ashley Manor is on the first Friday of each month and Hartman Village is on the third Friday. Both Masses start at 10:15 AM and all parishioners are invited to attend. Residents look forward to Mass and visits from fellow parishioners. Our school also supports this ministry. Seventh graders Hailey James and Jordyn Williamson volunteered to serve Mass and did the readings at Hartman Village in March. They also took time to visit with residents and their efforts were greatly appreciated. Remember, you can join Father for Masses and participate in this vital ministry.

Totus Tuus (Totally Yours) is a FUN and ENERGETIC parish-based summer catechetical program for school age children junior high, and high school youth.

Totus Tuus gathers together college students and seminarians onto teams of four and sends them out to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ in various parishes through the diocese.

SS. Peter & Paul Parish will be hosting this program from June 24-30. The daytime program will run from 9:00AM to 2:30PM for students in grades 1-6. The evening session will run from 7:30PM to 9:30PM for junior high and high school youth.

We will be in need of some adult helpers for the day program, as well as a “Crew” to help coordinate snacks and meals for the week. Please contact Kris Stodgel at the parish office if you are interested in helping.

The Grade School Program:

This program is for children going into the 1 through 6th grades. The focus of the week is o n each child's love and understanding of the Eucharist, devotion to Mary, catechetical instruction,

vocational discernment and all while providing a fun, enjoyable experience. During the week, the children will participate in four classes each day, have the opportunity for Reconciliation daily, attend daily Mass, learn the Mass parts and liturgical songs, and participate in games, icebreakers, skits, songs, recess, and prayer. The week concludes on Friday with outdoor activities celebrating the culmination of the past week. The Junior High and High School Program:

This program is for teenagers going into the 7th grade through 12th grade. The goal during the “evening program” is to put the youth in contact with the Lord so that they can develop a deep personal relationship with Him. There is a night of Adoration and the opportunity for the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation, catechetical instruction and witnesses on topics important to young people, and a night of fellowship with the team members. Thursday evening is the “fun night” for the teens. What that entails is up to the teenagers themselves, along with the team. Examples include: bonfire, game night, ice cream and pizza, slip ‘n’ slide, etc.

Totus Tuus is coming!
