Dear Friends of St. Ambrose,

Good evening and welcome to our annual St. Ambrose School gala. We welcome parents, parishioners, faculty and staff, our parish priests, and supporters of our school. Tonight we leave the comfort of our homes and set off on an international adventure! Welcome to a Knight Around the World!

St. Ambrose Catholic School was founded 22 years ago by parishioners who believed that we could support a school that could compete with the strong Fairfax County schools. They believed that we could provide the faith component that children need to thrive. I think they would feel gratified to see that their prayers were answered, and their hard work justified by our Blue Ribbon School. We stand on the shoulders of educators and supporters who have provided the expertise and funding to allow us to provide an excellent education for our students, including an expanding preschool, a resource program for children facing learning challenges, and stimulating extracurricular activities. We especially welcome back all of our alumni, their parents, and former teachers and staff.

Congratulations and gratitude to our Gala Chairs, Michele Robbins, Eileen Bliss, and Heather Terreri, and their planning committee, for their tireless work in organizing such a lovely evening. Sarah Moran and our PTO Board have given strong leadership and we are grateful to them as we continue to work together to make our school vibrant, affordable, and faith-filled. I am also very grateful to Maria Lopez, our Room Parent Coordinator, and the Room Parents for taking the lead on the classroom baskets.

We are blessed to have the solid support of our parish priests. Thank you, Father Fisher, Father Hayes, and Father Starzynski, for your prayers and constant support of our parish school. Our students and staff are very fortunate to have you in their lives.

Finally, words cannot express the gratitude I feel for our faculty and staff. They exemplify the Spirit of St. Ambrose and make our school a wonderful place for children and adults alike. We are blessed to have such an accomplished teaching team!

Please enjoy this Knight Around the World (make a special stop in Ireland!). Thank you for making St. Ambrose School a priority in your life. May God continue to smile on St. Ambrose School!

Whiffs of honey, cantaloupe and tangerine intensify on the palate of this bright, fruity wine from Mosel. With a bit of sweetness, it's lip-smackingly plump in yellow plum and cherry

Fresh and powerful red blend with 70% Malbec, 15% Cabernet and 15% Merlot from Mendoza. Fruit and spices explode first on the nose and then on the palate leading to a juicy

finish. Great accompaniment to grilled meats, pasta or Thai food.

Warsteiner Dunkel, Germany Lager- This exceptionally smooth dark lager has a deep chestnut brown hue, toasty malt and

mocha aromas, with a medium-bodied palate and subtle hop bitterness on the finish.

Stella Artois, Belgium Euro Pale Lager- Crisp, balanced, biscuity, earthy, and well-balanced. Traditional malted

barley and European hops.

Yuengling, USA Amber/Red Lager- This lager has a rich amber color and medium-bodied flavor. Roasted

caramel malt provides a subtle sweetness, Cascade hops provide balance.

Dos Equis Ambar, Mexico Vienna Lager- This amber-copper colored lager has light malt and fruit aromas with a whiff of

herbal hops. It is a medium-bodied beer with a soft mouth feel and a fairly crisp finish.

Dessert AuctionThis evening we are continuing a new tradition of the St. Ambrose Gala - the 5th annual Dessert Auction! Instead of a served dessert, members of the St. Ambrose community have donated a variety of

delectable desserts for you to bid on during the silent auction. Winners will be announced right before the live auction so

you can enjoy dessert while you bid!Here are some tips:

*There will be no dessert served, so make sure to get in your winning bid!

*Get together with your table and pick a dessert to share! You can write down all your bid numbers and we will split the total.

* If you bid as a table, assign someone to be in charge of checking the bidding. Pick a maximum amount that individual is allowed to bid.

Auction Tax Deduction Tips Many people are often curious to know what is tax deductible when you go to an auction. Here's what you need to know:* If you donated an item, you can deduct the fair market value of that item.* You are only allowed to deduct the amount for an auction item over the fair market value. For example, if you win a $100 certificate for $125, you can deduct the $25. Remember this as you bid because even you if pay over the fair market value, you are not only getting the tax deduction, but you are also helping our school!* Any cash donation you make for Fund a Need, the Giving Tree, or to the event in general is 100% tax deductible!

General Auction Rules


All bids are binding and all sales are final. No exchanges or refund requests will be honored. Auction items must be paid for in full. Please note specifications and limitations carefully. All services, trips, gift certificates, and such must be used within one year of the auction unless otherwise noted and are subject to availability. Taxes, tips and beverages are generally not included in restaurant certificates unless specified. Unless specified, dates and times are to be arranged at the mutual convenience of the donor and the buyer.

Items will be sold “as is” to the highest bidder with no warranties expressed or implied. No statement contained in the catalog or made orally shall be deemed to be such warranty, representation or assumption of liability. By purchasing, the buyer waives any claim for liability against either St. Ambrose, the PTO, or the donor, and neither the school nor the donor is responsible for any personal injuries or damages that may result from the use of property or services sold.

Silent Auction RulesTo bid, write your assigned bidder number on the line of the item bid sheet. Minimum opening and increase bid amounts must be adhered to in order to be valid. Announcements will be made ten minutes and five minutes before the Silent Auction closes. Upon closing, winning bids will be circled on bid sheets and the bid sheets will be collected. No subsequent bids will be allowed. An invoice will be prepared for each winning bidder for check-out at the end of the evening .

Live Auction RulesTo bid, raise your paddle in the direction of the auctioneer. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the purchaser. The auctioneer shall have the final discretion to determine the winning bidder.

Bell Ringer RulesA Bell Ringer is an opportunity for more than one winning bidder for a Live Auction item. Bell Ringers will be limited and unknown in advance. If, at the conclusion of bidding for any given Live Auction item, the auctioneer decides to offer a Bell Ringer for that item, the Auctioneer will offer the item to both the highest bidder AND the second highest bidder. If the second highest bidder still wants to purchase the item, then both the highest bidder and the second highest bidder will pay the price of the second highest bid. If a Bell Ringer is offered to a third bidder, the third highest bidder will be offered the same item at the price of the second highest bid.


No need to stand in long lines anymore at the end of the night! If you opted for quick checkout and swiped your card at check in, you do not need to check out. Simply go through the quick checkout line to pick up any items you have won during the silent auction starting 30 minutes after that auction closes.

If you participate in the live auction, Fund-a-Need, Teachers’ Passport to Success Giving Tree, or other Gala extras, your total will be added to your invoice and charged to your card without having to revisit the line! You are free to leave whenever you like! There will be a 2% service charge for credit card use.

Raise your paddle during the live auction if you would like to contribute to a class set of iPads, a

new laminator for the office, and new white boards for the classrooms. Help us to provide better, more

current, and more efficient technology for our students! And help make our teacher’s time in class more efficient with a newer, faster, better laminator

and new white boards!

I am honored to write for the students of St. Ambrose. We are so grateful for you to be here tonight at our school Gala. Thank you for all of your donations to help our school. We all want to watch our school improve and grow. With your donations, we can continue to learn and grow in our faith. Our school has made some improvements over the years and we hope to see more.

Welcome to the Knight Around the World Gala! I hope you have a fabulous evening and a safe trip around the world.

As our school’s mission statement says, “The mission of Saint Ambrose Catholic School is to foster an ongoing dynamic and innovative educational environment in which each student will be motivated to reach his/her full academic and spiritual potential while supporting the family as the primary educator…”

As you participate in tonight’s event, all of you are helping to fulfill the next part of the school’s mission. By your example, you are creating an “atmosphere…[which] strongly encourages community service and active participation as global citizens, following the example and teachings of Jesus Christ.” The PTO’s mission is to support the school’s philosophy and teachings by fostering academic excellence, healthy physical development, and Catholic morals and values for our children. Through your purchase of tickets, bids on baskets, and overall donations, you help make the field trips, STEM club activities, and student assemblies possible, as well as other events that enhance the quality of this community.

These events cannot come together with such a fantastic attendance, fabulous auction offerings and a terrific menu like tonight’s without a ton of planning, superior organizational abilities, unceasing creativity, tireless legwork, preparation, and fabulous people skills.
