portunity to help St. Angela by using Am-azon smile. If you are going to purchase something from Amazon please log onto www.smile.amazon.com and choose St. Angela Merici as your charity. This doesn’t cost you anything and the church will receive a percentage from every pur-chase you make.

From The Desk of Msgr. Matthew Mitas: REMEMBER THAT MAY IS THE MONTH OF OUR LADY!

HALLELUJAH!

The blessed day has arrived. “This is the day the lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad.” (Ps. 118:24) This

is the day when we thumb our noses at the Wuhan Flu, start living like normal human beings again, and stop liv-

ing like Howard Hughes. If you haven’t already gotten it, you will receive a letter from me concerning the guide-

lines for the start-up, but suffice it, for now, to say, they will all predicated upon the social-distancing with which

we are already quite familiar. The church will be open for 8:00AM Mass on Monday, May 18, and will remain

so from then on. A couple of important notices:

1) If you are sick (especially with a fever), stay home until you’re well.

2) If you’re in the high-risk categories and are fearful about returning, stay home (you have

a dispensation)

3) We are doing everything we reasonably can to insure a safe environment here in church.

4) When you do come into church, stay six feet from the person nearest to you.

5) We will continue to stream all the Masses live (and maybe some other things as well).

There will be some other particulars, which the letter will address. I hope we only need to do this stuff for a

short time. There’s already very good news about the imminent availability of reliable vaccines and dramatic re-

ductions in the numbers of new cases.

THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD

Next Sunday, when we’re all back where we belong, we will celebrate the Ascension of the Lord. Forty days

after His Resurrection, He departed this world, but promised two things: first, that He would never leave us or-

phans, and second, that He would come again. The first promise He kept by establishing the Church, whose

birthday and origin we celebrate next Sunday at Pentecost. Jesus didn’t leave us a book (viz., the New Testa-

ment), but rather gave us a Church that would produce that book in order to help her accomplish her divine

mandate to “teach all nations”. The second promise remains unfulfilled, but will be fulfilled at the end of time.

God always keeps His promises, so we patiently await (and long for) His Second Coming. What a combo of two

great feasts to return to!

QUIZ-A-CATHOLIC

Let’s play “Guess the Year”! Your task will be to name, as close as you can, the year when the following

events took place. I’ll give you three years plus or minus, meaning that you have a six-year target to hit, e.g., if

something happened in 1305, then any answer from 1302 to 1308 will be counted as correct, but there will be

extra credit for bulls-eyes (all events are A.D.):

1. In what year was the use of vernacular language allowed for the Mass prayers?

2. Permission given for Masses to be celebrated in the afternoon or evening.

3. Jesus Christ rose from the dead.

4. Celebrating Sunday Mass on Saturday (i.e., “anticipated Masses”) approved.

5. The Battle of Lepanto.

6. The first Council of Nicea.

7. The Apparitions of Our Lady at Fatima.

8. The Apparitions of Our Lady at Lourdes.

9. Pope Francis was elected pope.

10. The Diocese of St. Louis became an archdiocese.

QUOTES OF THE WEEK

“Fear is a reaction; courage is a decision.” –

Winston Churchill “There is nothing that the government can

give you that it hasn’t taken from you in the first

place.” – Winston Churchill “The main vice of capitalism is the uneven

distribution of prosperity. The vice of socialism is the

even distribution of misery.” – Churchill again, mak-ing this a Winstonian trifecta!

WORD OF THE WEEK

person or animal, as in: “Let’s not act like a bunch of wallydrags, and get on with the business of our Church and country!”

collection box in the parking lot. Your bagged & secured donations of clothing & small house-hold goods have given us conference credits at the Thrift Store to help our neighbors in need when the store is reopened. While we are not making home visits yet, your contributions to the SVDP Society have allowed us to help our neighbors keep up with their utility bills. We hope to resume the Food Drives soon. We ap-preciate all the support you give to the SVDP Society. Sorry for having the wrong address, here is the a correct one for T.E.A.M. it is 265 St. Catherine St., Florissant,. MO 63031.

to St. Angela Merici. One is to either mail your envelope or drop it in the black mail box at the corner of the building before you get to the par-ish office. The mailing address is 3860 N. Hwy 67, Florissant, MO 63034. The other way is to sign up for the online giving. The link for the online giving is on the St. Angela Merici webpage, the address is www.saintangelamerici.org. On the home page the link is at the very bottom on the right-hand side. Click on the online giving and it will take you to the page for the online giving. Click on Create New Account and fill out the infor-mation. Then you are all set up for the online giving.

ALL MINISTERS (Lectors-Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion-Altar Servers-Gift Bearers): A Ministry Schedule will be prepared for the months of June, July and August 2020 to be ready when Mass will once again be available in Church. Please update your availability for those months in the Ministry Scheduler Pro (MSP) program or by note to Ken Schmalbeck. The new schedule will be prepared during the week of May 18th. Thank you for your service to Our Parish.

PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN

This really should include vulnerable

adults, also. The Archdiocese of St. Louis has developed a new system for safe environment compliance called Prevent and Protect STL. Everyone min-istering to minors and vulnerable adults (clergy, employees and volunteers) in the Archdiocese are required and asked to register in the new sys-tem before December 31, 2020. This includes those new to service and those who are cur-rently in service. For those who have already attended a Protecting God’s Children workshop, your previous training date will transfer to this new system. In addition to attending a live Pro-tecting God’s Children workshop, all clergy, vol-unteers, and employees will register for an up-dated background screening, view two new online training modules on abuse reporting and the Code of Ethical Conduct, and agree to the updated Code of Ethical Conduct. Please go to www.preventandprotectstl.org to register. Click “Register” below the LOG IN button. En-ter the passcode stlprotect. Select the type of location where you are a volunteer or employee. Select the specific location by name: St. Angela Merici Parish. Contact Linda Brindley, our par-ish Child Safety Coordinator, at 314 -838-6565 with any questions or for further assistance. This should take about an hour to do. Thanks in ad-vance for taking care of this.

MEN’S CLUB The normal scheduled meeting for Mon-day, May 18th has been cancel. The next meeting is schedule for Monday, June 22nd.
