Request for Prayers for the Sick If you or someone from your immediate family would like to be prayed for at weekend Mass, you must contact the Parish Office at 815-469-3750. The name will be mentioned for a two-weekend period. After two weekends, the name will be removed from the Pass Petitions. If you would like to have the name mentioned after that, you will have to contact the Parish Office again. Just a reminder: Only the person who is ill or someone from the immediate family can make the request due to the HIPAA policy.
***
Request for Hospital Visit When you or someone from your immediate family are admitted to the hospital and you would like a visit from a Priest or Deacon, you need to contact the Parish Office. The hospital does not always contact the parish, and the parish is not given a list of names of parishioners in the hospital and we cannot legally request one. This is a HIPAA policy. Only the person who is ill or the immediate family can make the request for a hospital visit.

Policy on Mass Intentions Church Law, Canon 948 states that “separate Masses are to be applied for the intentions for which an individual offering has been made and accepted. The priest who accepts such offerings is bound in justice to satisfy the obligations personally or by committing them to another (Cc. 989, 954-55).” In 1991, the Congregations of the Clergy issued a decree in which permission was given to accept several offerings for a collective intention at a single Mass. These regulations must be observed: 1) The donors must be informed of and consent to the combining of their offerings before the Mass at which the collective intention is. 2) The time and place for the Mass must be announced. 3) The practice may not be observed more than twice a week. 4) The offerings are to be placed in the general funds of the parish. These collective intentions will be held at St. Anthony Parish on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the year, provided the day does not fall on a Church Feast or Holiday, such as Christmas . No more than five intentions can be celebrated at each of these two Masses. These intentions will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. All other Masses will be offered for a single intention only, in accord with Church Law. If you would like to have your Mass intention offered sooner than the parish can accommodate, Mass intentions can be sent to the Joliet Chancery.

HAPPY PEOPLE The happiest people don’t necessarily have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

IMPRESSIONABLE When we try to make an impression, that’s exactly the impression we make.

BE A ROCK Peter’s history as a follower or friend of Jesus is a bit
spotty. It might be natural to wonder if Jesus, in giving him
the keys to the kingdom, didn’t feel a bit like a parent giving a
teenager the keys to the family car. But it was at the moment
when God’s power and presence broke through everything
else to raise up Peter’s great profession of faith in Christ as
Messiah that Jesus chose to establish the bond between the
loving, forgiving mercy of heaven and our vocation to be
witnesses of that love, mercy, and forgiveness on earth.
Like any parent, Jesus no doubt foresaw the failings, the
irresponsible maneuvers or impaired senses, the collisions
that the church would be headed for. But, most importantly,
he also saw us at that moment as God prefers to see us:
capable of manifesting great faith, with a willingness to
remain at the feet of Christ to understand what it truly means
to be Messiah and Christ. As the letter to the Romans points
out to us today, we have not known the mind or the wisdom
of God, but God knows us and still chooses to manifest the
reign of justice, joy, beauty, and peace through us. Let this
be our vocation. Let us always strive to be solid ground on
which the church of Jesus Christ can be founded and on
which it can continue to be built.

RCIA CLASSES FOR FALL 2017 NOW TAKING REGISTRATIONS
Have you been thinking about becoming Catholic? Do you need to complete your Sacraments of Init iation: Baptism, Eucharist and/or Confirmation? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions now may be the time for you to take the next step on your faith journey.
The RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR
ADULTS—RCIA is a program for adults, post high

to become Catholic or finish their sacraments.
Classes meet on Tuesday evenings beginning
September 5, from 7-8 pm in the Padua Center
We have guest speakers who speak on the topic of the
week.
There are a series of short (four-page) readings for
each class. There are no tests, exams or papers.
We are mindful of the demands on your time: family,
work and school. We break during the weeks of
Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year.
The RCIA Program culminates at the Easter Vigil on
March 31, 2018. Interested in registering for classes or
learning more? Please call or email: Deacon Tony

Dear Parishioners,
Father Smith and Father Sponder are planning an exciting
faith pilgrimage and tour of Classical Italy which will include
very special visits, devotions and Masses. Highlights of the
trip will include: VENICE — beautiful architecture along the
spectacular canals; PADUA — the home of Saint Anthony;
FLORENCE — the art capital of the world; ASSISI — the
birthplace of the Franciscan Order; SIENA — the birthplace of
Saint Catherine; and ROME — home to some of the greatest
shrines of Christianity, the Vatican and its museums, and of
course Pope Francis! Visits to the ancient ruins, ornate
monuments, great food and opportunities for shopping will also
be a part of the tour.
There will be an informational meeting held in the St.
Anthony Room in the Padua Center on Wednesday,
September 7, 2017 at 7:00 pm. Please consider coming and
bring a friend to learn more about the tour, cost and details.
We hope to see you then!
