He saw the people's need - it was late for them to return to their homes and they had had nothing to eat all day - and he worked a miracle to meet this need. The miracle also helped to convince the people of Galilee - the news spread around quickly - that he was the expected Messiah, but especially it prepared the way for the an- nouncement of the greatest miracle of all - the miracle of the Eucharist. The bread he miraculously multiplied that day to supply the bodily needs of the Galilean multitude was but a foreshadowing of that heavenly food which he was about to give as spiritual nourishment to the millions who would become his followers down through the centu- ries until the end of time. The Galileans were grateful to him for providing so kindly and so thoughtfully for their needs. How much more grateful should we not be for the miracle by means of which he has left us himself to be our daily spiritual food? We are grateful, of course, to our loving Lord who not only handed over himself to his enemies to be crucified for us, but through his divine power, trium- phant over death, should remain with us, his Church, for- ever under the Eucharistic species. Amen. Fr. Paul Materu

August 2, 2020

Dear brothers and sisters, "God is good all the time!" Updates: Statement on Portland Protests Archbishop Alexander K. Sample July 28, 2020 As Catho-

lics, we are called to stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters who suffer at the hands of ra-

cism, oppression and all forms of injustice. These are all offenses against the life and dignity of every

human person. Many times this takes the form of peaceful protest, as it has in the instances of the Civil

Rights movement in the 1960’s, worker’s rights, pro-life initiatives and so many others. What we are currently seeing in Portland

– and even across our country – has nothing to do with securing justice or civil liberties. The initial attempt to bring awareness

to the continuing injustice of racism has now been hijacked for the purposes of violent demonstration in order to further a politi-

cal and social ideology. I am calling for the good people of the Archdiocese of Portland to pray for the conversion of heart of

those who are perpetrating this violent unrest in this city many of us call home. Now is not a time cling to our political beliefs,

but a time to cling to our faith in Christ, who alone can give us that peace that surpasses all understanding - a peace he himself

says the world cannot give. The dispensation for the Sunday Mass obligation remains in effect.

Parishioners will have an expanded opportunity to attend Mass during the weekdays. Each Mass can have a maximum of 50 total

people. 25 people can watch the Mass and receive communion in the Parish hall if the church is full (50 people).

Face coverings are required especially for ministers distributing Holy Communion and for all who attend Mass. The following

persons are not required to wear a mask: Persons under the age of 5. Persons who require an accommodation of exemption under

federal or state law.

Why Sign Up~You Must sign up for Mass by calling or texting (Kim @ 503-949-9621 by 5 pm on Saturday’s), email the

parish office [email protected] by noon on Friday’s. The state requires us to collect your contact information. Public Health

may use your information to contact you if someone who visits the church tests positive for COVID-19.

PLEASE DO NOT assume you can just come because you called, you must talk to Kim or receive a call, text or

email back from the parish office or Kim.

Unfortunately, those who simply show-up for Mass will be turned away if there are 50 . This is due largely to public

health contact tracing requirements (36 square foot space for each person in attendance 6 feet x 6 feet). First and Last

name and contact number required for all attendees. Anyone with signs of symptoms of illness, do not to enter parish

buildings, you will be ask to return home.

Rules that have been put in force per Archdiocese & government rules. Please contact Sister

Veronica Schueler, F.S.E. or Reverend Todd Molinari with any question at the Archdiocese of Portland.

50 people:Weekday Mass times: Wednesday-Thursday-Friday 9 am. 50 people:Weekend Mass times: Saturday 7pm, and Sunday 8 am & 10 am.

Office Hours: Tuesday-Friday 8 am-1 pm.

Yours in the Risen Lord, Fr. Paul Materu, Pastor, St. Boniface Church
