Thank You Ms. Wanat and Mrs. Calderisi

As you may have heard, two of our school teachers are retiring after many faithful years in education. Ms. Wanat has been a teacher at St. Eugene Parish for forty-four years, and Mrs. Calderisi has been here for ten years. Between the two of them that is fifty-four years of ministry!

I am truly thankful to both of them for their dedication and faith. What a blessing they have been to our school and children. It is impossible to put a number on all the students who have been influenced by their gift of knowledge that they have shared over the years. Good teachers are instrumental during the formative years of a child. Many successful adults often comment that it was a teacher in their grade school that really inspired them to do their best. The seed of excellence often starts at a young age. It is often an inspirational teacher who helps a child reach his or her full potential. The presence of both Ms. Wanat and Mrs. Calderisi will be missed next year. However, on behalf of St. Eugene Parish, I want to wish them all the best on a well-earned retirement.

It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. With that thought in mind, I would like to share some pictures with you of their time here at St. Eugene School.

May God bless both of them as they begin a new chapter in their lives!

Yours in Christ,

JOURNEY OF FAITH We are on a long and eventful journey. Today’s readings for Trinity Sunday succinctly cover the depth and breadth of our human travels. The very beginnings of our journey are revealed in the reading from Proverbs. God’s plan filled with divine wisdom was born before the earth was made. In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks of his own personal journey. He has come from the Father and will return to the Father. Only then will the Advocate—the Spirit of Truth—take us onward. This does not diminish the fact that the journey will be hard. The very setting of the Gospel is the night before Jesus died. As Saint Paul writes to the Romans, “[W]e even boast of our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope” (Romans 5:3-4). Ultimately, our human journey is modeled by the Holy Trinity—a family of love among Father, Son, and Spirit that we are all called to emulate. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Prayer with Scripture We invite you to an encounter of prayer where you can stop from the hurry of the moment and listen to God through God’s Word, in silence, meditation, ad-oration and contemplation. In this short but intense time, we listen to a talk that introduces us into the understanding of the Word of God, which later, we reflect on and meditate in an attitude of faith, discov-ering what God is trying to reveal to us. The prayer is accompanied by the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with songs to help the faithful enter more into prayer.

PEOPLE OF THE CROSS UNITED Sudan is located in northeast Africa. Islamic law is the foundation of Sudan’s legal system and leaving Islam is punishable by death. Christians face poverty, war and genocide. Christian churches, hospitals, and schools have been destroyed. Pastors and church leaders have been murdered. Freedom of religion and beliefs are systematically violated. Christians are often ostracized by family exclusion, the loss of jobs, and rejection by their own communities. Pray that Christians in Sudan can find community with others they can trust, places to worship, and courage to remain faithful.

We at St. Eugene want to be able to provide the best for our students at an affordable tuition rate. As we look to the future of St. Eu-gene School we have a vision too. We are looking to bring a new math series and online math programs as we continue to strengthen our student's math skills. We are also looking to move forward and become a 1:1 devise school by bringing in Chromebooks starting in 4th grade. In order to bring this vision to fruition we need to continue make improvements and strengthen the WIFI infrastructure. We are so fortunate as a school to have Fr. George as our pastor who is extremely supportive of our school. The parish subsidy that we receive is very generous, and we are very lucky to have Fr. George and St. Eugene parish that share a great love for our school. Thank you again!

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Around the turn of the fourth century, Augustine, still fairly fresh from the baptismal waters in Milan, was elected bishop of a tiny city in North Africa, Hippo. He told his people, “While I am frightened by what I am for you, then I am consoled by what I am with you. For you I am a bishop, with you I am a Christian.” He had his priorities right, and also knew that everyone coming from the water arises with a ministry, a specific role, in bringing about God’s kingdom. If we were asked to purge English of Greek vocabulary, we would gain an insight into key ministries in our church. Bishop, from the Greek episkopos, would become simply “overseer;” priest, from the Greek presybter, would become “elder;” and deacon, from the Greek diakonos, would be “servant.” Each title stands in relationship to all the baptized, serving the community, helping it to be the Body of Christ. In our deepest tradition, each of these ordained ministries is attuned to help us become our best selves, to hunger and thirst for the coming of God’s kingdom. The goal for each one of us is to be able to recognize the presence of Christ in worship and in service. Although only some of us are ordained to ministry, each of us is called to ministry. —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission as Catholics united in faith at St. Eugene Parish is to help bring God to people and people to God. Through evangelization, education and being of service to each other, we strive to make our parish community a holistic community in body, mind and spirit. It is our goal to develop, support, encourage and empower one another in our parish ministries, so that each person can reach their human and Christian po-tential. We are enthused about the future of St. Eugene and the whole Catholic Church and we pledge our participation in that future. We seek dialogue and open communication with all parishioners in fulfilling the needs of our parish. While recognizing the cultural diversities in our community, we will strive to bring all people together in Christ under a common bond of faith, hope and love.
