Dear Parishioners: He is Risen, Alleluia! “It is through him that you are believers in God, the God who raised him from the dead and gave him glory. Your faith and hope, then, are cen-tered in God.”(1Pt. 1:21) These words are the Easter proclamation of our first Pope, St. Peter. We know them to be the Kerygma or the very core of our Christian Faith and they summarize what we celebrate on this Solemnity of the Resurrection of the Lord. One day the catechist of some pre-schoolers asked her students what happened on Easter and one little girl responded with great enthusiasm, “Jesus came out of the tomb!” Her teacher was delighted with her answer and then asked, “Why did Jesus come out of the tomb?” She wasn’t prepared to hear the little budding theologians say, “He wanted to see what the Easter Bunny brought him!” While Easter is so much more than chocolate eggs, chicks, and flop-py eared rabbit who brings such treats is a wonderful symbol for all of us children of every age. As you know the rabbit is a crea-ture that is known to be very prolific. How often have we heard the old saying “multiply like rabbits.” That image is a wonderful way of explaining the meaning of the Resurrection. Like the egg it reminds us of new life. News of the Risen Lord spread like wildfire in the ancient world, a fire that could not be extinguished. It is no wonder that the darkness of the Easter Vigil is quickly dispelled by the lighting of the new fire and the paschal candle from which one by one tapers are lit until the whole church is bathed in a most beautiful light, the Light of Christ. We bring that light home with us to be spread throughout our world and we see all things by it like colored sun-glasses on a glorious day. Darkness and death have been conquered. Alleluia! Estimados Feligreses:
¡Ha resucitado, Aleluya! “Gracias a él han creído en Dios que lo resucitó de entre los muertos y lo glorificó, precisamente con el fin de que pusieran su fe y su esperanza en Dios.” Estas palabras son la Proclamación de la Pascua de nuestro primer Papa, San Pedro. Sabemos que son el Kerygma o el núcleo mis-mo de nuestra fe cristiana y resumen lo que celebramos en esta Solemnidad de la Resu-rrección del Señor.
Un día, el catequista de algunos niños en edad preescolar preguntó a sus alumnos qué sucedió en Pascua y una niña pequeña respondió con gran entusiasmo, ¡Jesús salió de la tumba! "Su maestra estaba encantada con su respuesta y luego le preguntó:" ¿Por qué salió Jesús de la tumba? " Ella no estaba preparada para escuchar a los pequeños teólo-gos decir: "¡Quería ver qué le había traído el Conejito de Pascua!" Si bien la Pascua es mu-cho más que los huevos de chocolate, los po-llitos y los conejos de orejas caídas, quienes traen estas golosinas son un símbolo maravi-lloso para todos los niños de todas las edades. Como ustedes saben, el conejo es una criatura que es muy prolífica. ¿Cuántas veces hemos escuchado el viejo dicho "multiplican como conejos"? Esa imagen es una manera maravi-llosa de explicar el significado de la Resurrec-ción. Como el huevo nos recuerda a la nueva vida. Las noticias del Señor resucitado se pro-pagaron como un incendio en el mundo anti-guo, un fuego que no podía extinguirse. No es de extrañar que la oscuridad de la Vigilia Pas-cual se disipe rápidamente con la iluminación del nuevo fuego y la vela pascual desde la que se encienden una a una hasta que toda la igle-sia está bañada por una luz muy hermosa, la Luz de Cristo. Traemos esa luz a casa con nosotros para que se extienda por todo el mundo y vemos todas las cosas como gafas de sol de colores en un día glorioso. La oscuridad y la muerte han sido conquistadas. ¡Aleluya!
