Dear Parishioners, Congratulations and thank you for all your support, hard work and service as we Celebrate 65 Years as St. John Brebeuf Parish! On June 29, 1953, Father Flanagan was selected by Samuel Cardinal Stritch to form a new parish in Niles, Illinois. Shortly after he arrived he bought a house at 8307 N. Ozanam as a rectory and began the formation of St. John Brebeuf Parish. On July 14, 1953, Father Flanagan was named pastor with a an initial group of 400 families. Ground was broken for the “Redwood Church” at the corner of Cleveland and Harlem in August and was ready for the first Mass on October 18. There were 350 seats. The first baptisms at SJB were on No-vember 1. Two babies were presented: Erica Anderson and Billy Williams. The Sisters of Mercy from St. Paul of the Cross parish instructed the children in their catechism. Clas-ses were then conducted by the Sisters of St. Francis from St. Mary of the Woods parish in Chicago. Such was the beginnings of this parish: simple, prayerful, and dedicated to bringing the faith to the young families; men and women returning from the World War II and to their children, the Baby Boomer Generation. We gather 65 years later, grateful to almighty God for all that he has done for us. We humbly look forward with hope for all he has planned. Our aim is the same, to make disciples, build community, and inspire witness. Just as in the past there were many twists and turns so, too, in our time we will sometimes find it difficult. Like the good people who have gone before us, it will be important to keep our eyes focused on these three priorities. May God's Choicest Blessing come to you and your families. Father Mike Meany

September 23-Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time: In today’s Gospel Jesus called the Twelve, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.” Taking a child, he placed it in their midst, and put-ting his arms around it, he said to them, “Whoever receives one child such as this in my name,

receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but the One who sent me." Your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will help hungry children feel the arms of Jesus around them. Have you considered joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul? Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that together we can help the suffering and poor.

Drodzy Parafianie, Gratuluję i dziękuję za wsparcie, ciężką pracę i służbę podczas świętowania 65-lecia parafii św. Jana Brebeufa! Pierwsze chrzty w SJB miały miejsce 1 listopada. Ochrzczono dwoje dzieci: Erica Anderson i Billy Williamsa. Siostry Miłosierdzia z parafii św. Pawła od Krzyża uczyły dzieci katechizmu. Zajęcia prowadzone były następnie przez Siostry św. Franciszka z parafii St. Mary of the Woods w Chicago. Niech Boskie Najświętsze Błogosławieństwo przyjdzie do Was i Waszych rodzin.

Ks. Mike Meany

23 września - Dwudziesta Piąta Niedziela Zwykła: W dzisiejszej Ewangelii Jezus powołał Dwunastu i rzekł do nich: "Jeśli ktoś chce być pierwszym, będzie ostatnim ze wszystkich i sługą wszystkich". Biorąc dziecko, umieścił je wśród nich i kładąc ręce wokół niego rzekł do nich: "Kto przyjmuje jedno takie dziecko w moim

imieniu, przyjmuje mnie; a kto mnie przyjmuje, nie przyjmuje mnie oprócz Tego, który Mnie posłał". Twój dar dla Bractwa Św. Wincentego a Paulo pomoże głodnym dzieciom poczuć ramiona Jezusa wokół nich. Czy zastanawiales sie nad przynaleznoscia do Stowarzyszenia St. Vincent de Paul? Jesli znasz rodzine, ktora potrzebuje pomocy prosze zadzwon do naszego Stowarzyszenia St. Vincent de Paul. Razem mozemy pomoc cierpiacym i potrzebujacym.

Join Us For Scripture Study Our Fall scripture study program will be from Oct. 14 , and end Nov. 11th. Our study will be "Pilgrim People." God's people have always been sojourners, pilgrims on a journey, open to God's call and direction. This study explores the major events and characters of the Bible that exemplify God's call to be pilgrims who are "looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and maker is God" (Heb. 11:10). Among the Biblical pilgrims and sojourners encountered in the study are Abraham and Sarah, Moses and the people of the Exodus, the Jews of the Babylonian exile, the Holy Family, and Christ's first disciples. The commentary is written with full citations of the appropriate Biblical texts and provides insight into the Biblical characters, historical settings, and modern applications. We meet once a week on Sundays from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. Our scripture fee is $10. Contact Chester Gilbert at 847-966-4789 or [email protected] for further information.

St. Theresa of Calcutta once said: “The greatest destroyer of peace today is ABORTION ... because it is war against the child. When we die, we will come face to face with God, the Author of Life. Who will give an account to God for the millions and millions of babies who were not allowed a chance to live, to experience loving and being loved?” Join pro-life today and offer to help at a local pregnancy care center Let us continue to pray daily: "Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to

spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion."
