School Charisms Compassion, Forgiveness & Desire for Unity

In Harmony Nidja Noongar Boodjar Noonook Nyininy

One of our Charisms here at St John Paul II is a DESIRE FOR UNITY

We value our relationship with Jesus, who is central to all we do. We build a relationship with

Jesus through valuing and nurturing relationships with all others. As one family in Christ,

we include others, create a sense of belonging for each member of our community, we respect

the dignity of others, and celebrate the diversity of cultures in our community.

“may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they

also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me”

(John 17)

“Friendship, as has been said, consists in a full commitment of the

will to another person with a view to that person's good.” (St John

HOLY COMMUNION – 6.00pm SAT AUG 19 & 9.30am SUN AUG 20 Thank you for all those who were able to attend the Holy Communion Information Evening last week. Our group is getting bigger each year, so much so that we have needed to have some students celebrate their Sacrament on the Saturday evening Mass and others on Sunday morning. All are warmly welcomed to come and join our students as they make their First Holy Communion.

Congratulations to Leah Galbraith, Sophia Dumaop and Aoibhe Kenny who made their First Reconciliation last Thursday!

THE BISHOPS’ RELIGIOUS LITERACY ASSESSMENT 2017 At the request of the Western Australian Bishops, Year 3, Year 5 and Year 9 students in Catholic schools across Western Australia will take part in The Bishops’ Religious Literacy Assessment (BRLA) from the week commencing Monday 31 July in Term Three. The assessment will be accessible to students only online. Students enrolled in Year 3, Year 5 and Year 9 who are following a regular classroom program are expected to participate. Students with disability are also entitled to participate in the assessment. Exemptions may apply. The Nature and Role of the BRLA The Bishops’ Religious Literacy Assessment is a large-scale, standardised assessment that consists of a series of Religious Education (RE) tests. The purpose of the BRLA is to measure student learning of the content in the RE curriculum. The test items in the BRLA are developed and marked by the Office of Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA). Formal school and student reports are produced by the Office of CEWA and will become available to schools in Term Four. The BRLA provides a ‘point in time’ snapshot of student performance in RE. Students’ knowledge and understanding of the content of the RE curriculum is assessed using a combination of multiple choice, short and extended response items. Students’ faith is not assessed. The use of the BRLA complements the school based assessment programs in RE. Please contact your child’s teacher or myself, if you have any inquiries regarding the administration of The Bishops’ Religious Literacy Assessment.

MISSION DAY FOR SAINT VINCENT’S ORPHANAGE IN VIETNAM

Recently we held a free dress mission day to support the orphanage in Vietnam run by the Dominican sisters that Sr Tuyen and Sr Duyen belong to. Thank you to our Year 4 students and staff who presented a very prayer filled and meaningful powerpoint and Prayer Assembly about this orphanage. To support the amazing work done by the Dominicans the gold coin donation for free dress allowed us to raise $450 ($50 more than last year!).

May God bless you, Tim Maxwell (Assistant Principal, Religious Education) )

BIG THANK YOU FROM SR. TUYEN

Hi everyone, On behalf of the Sisters & the orphans in Vietnam, Thank you very much for continuing support the orphanages! We much appreciated your love, prayers & generosity! May God bless you & your family. You are in our thoughts & prayers every day. Best regards, xx

JOHN FERNANDEZ MUSIC LESSONS Hello, my name is John Fernandez. I've been teaching music for over 30 years in primary and secondary schools around Perth. I am a WAAPA

graduate, with a major in jazz guitar and a minor in piano. I have a teaching degree and am registered with the WA Teacher's Registration Board and have

a current Working With Children card. As well as teaching, I'm currently the keyboard player and singer in the band, Nchant. I also play and sing at

church, as well as do solo and duo gigs. I am married, with five children, and you'll find that I'm reliable, communicative and organised. I have a high

retention rate with my students, who seem to love coming to their lessons, and I look forward to helping your child in their music education.

The importance of a booster and moving a child from them too

early

On Friday 4th August in the undercover area from 8am till 8.30am Kidsafe WA will be

present to answer and help with any parents about the car safety with children.

In Western Australia, the leading cause of death and the third most frequent cause of

hospitalisation for children aged 0-14 years is transport related injury. Motor vehicles accidents are

one of the most common causes of transport related injury for children. Whenever children are

passengers in a vehicle they should be seated in the most appropriate child restraint for their age

and size.

An adult seat belt is designed for an average sized human (145cm approx.), so age isn’t a reliable indicator that your child is ready to move out of their booster seat. Another factor to be aware of is that your child also needs to be mature enough to sit properly in their seat without slouching, or pulling their shoulder strap behind their back, etc. So come along and ask the questions that could be on your mind. It’s free and it will not cost you too much of your time. At assembly there will be a short video on the importance of a booster seat.

OSHClub News Before School / After School Care

Program

Welcome back to Term 3 at OSHClub St John Paul II Catholic Primary School. We have had a

great start to the term and have enjoyed seeing some new faces joining us!

So far the children have created their very own grass heads using stockings, soil and lawn seeds.

Each child has been made responsible to look after and water their grass heads and we are

already starting to see some of them grow!

We have been enjoying lots of fun activities including winter scene collages, DIY stress balls and

3D pokemon craft. The children also decided to create their own Ninja Warrior course in the play

ground!

On the 11th August we are receiving a very special visit from our local police team during After

School Care. The children will be able to ask lots of questions and learn about the jobs our

policeman have to do!

Any enquiries please feel free to come and see myself and Vicki over at our OSHClub room

between 7-9am and 2-6pm.
