WORKSHOP ON SERIOUS ILLNESS AND
ADVANCE CARE PLANNING
Are you concerned about your aging parents? Have you or has someone you know been diagnosed with a serious illness? Come hear a presentation and join in a discussion about palliative care, a way for people to
live better with serious illness that offers support for loved ones as well. Palliative care is often confused with hospice care and they are not the same thing. A Palliative Care/Advance Care Planning presentation will take place on Monday, September 23, 2019 at 7:00pm at St. Patrick Church hall in Watertown.
Presented by the Archdiocese of Boston’s Iitiative
WHERE ARE YOU ON YOUR
FAITH JOURNEY? RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. It the process by which adults enter full communion with our Church, through the sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist (Communion).
RCIA can help you along your faith journey if: You want to join the Church, and have never been
baptized. You have been baptized in another Christian faith
tradition, but want to join the Catholic Church. You have been baptized in the Catholic Church, but
never had your First Communion or Confirmation. If any of these describes your current situation and you seek full membership in the Catholic faith family, consider joining our Collaborative RCIA program. We meet weekly throughout the school year, with culmination in the celebration of the Rites of Initiation at the Easter Vigil in spring. RCIA begins in the autumn with a no-obligation period of exploration and discernment. If you think RCIA might be for you, contact either parish office by phone, or email [email protected]. We'd love to hear from you!

ST. JOHN-ST. PAUL SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
Today, we hear Jesus say to us, "...when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame and the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous." Saint Vincent de Paul is known as the "Apostle of Charity" dedicating his life to the service of those in need. Today The Saint John-Saint Paul Society

If you are in need of assistance, please contact either Parish office: St. John the Evangelist at 781-235-0045 or St. Paul at 781-235-1060. A Vincentian visit will be set up.

HIGH SCHOOL VISIT TO NPH IN
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC Save the Date! September 28 We are planning a thank you for your support and a presentation to the Collaborative on Sunday, September 28 at 6:00pm in Powers Hall at St. John Church. Check out the blog at www.sjspwellesley.org/nph2019 to learn about the amazing trip our high school group had in the Dominican Republic.
NPH IS COMING TO VISIT THIS FALL!
This November, NPH USA and the St. John – St. Paul Collaborative will be welcoming youth from the NPH home in Mexico. These youth will be visiting our collaborative to share their musical choir and stories with our community to raise awareness and support for their NPH home and family. NPH USA transforms the lives of abandoned and disadvantaged children in Latin America and the Caribbean by supporting the homes,
healthcare and educational programs of Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH, Spanish for "Our Little Brothers and Sisters"). NPH creates families for life and teaches children the values of unconditional love, shared responsibility, and helping others. You may remember partnering with NPH USA in the past, and we are looking forward to rejuvenating the connection with a special weekend featuring a guest speaker and the musical group! NPH is looking for host families to welcome the youth into their homes! By opening your homes you are able to form meaningful connections with some of the children in our care and you are helping us to continue to transform the lives of children in need. We are looking for six families to host either two youth (ages 16-22) or a chaperone from the musical group from October 30- November 5 during which time they will be visiting area schools and local events. The musical group will be then performing and speaking at all St. John & St. Paul Masses on Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday Nov. 3. If you would like to sign up to be a host family, please visit: www.nphusa.org/host-family-mane For more information about becoming a host family or if you’d like to learn more about NPH USA, contact Elizabeth Caletka at (617) 206-4942 or [email protected]. We are hoping to have families identified by August 31st.

Healthier Priests. Stronger Communities.
Funds from this special collection are managed by the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust – an independently managed trust with a majority lay board of trustees. The funds are used for the sole benefit of active and senior priests in good standing.
The strength and vibrancy of our communities depend largely on the welfare of our priests who tirelessly serve others from all walks of life.
Powerful examples of strength in community are visible across 144 cities and towns of the Archdiocese of Boston. The roots of these communities can be traced back to the work of our priests.
Pine Street Inn: A Boston priest was one of the original founders of Pine Street Inn, which provides shelter and emergency services for nearly 2,000 homeless men and women in the Boston area every day.
Cor Unum: Started by a Lawrence pastor, Cor Unum (“One Heart”) food pantry serves more than 250,000 meals annually to poverty-stricken families in Lawrence.
Addiction Support for Families: A Boston priest’s expertise in addiction and recovery has been instrumental for organizations helping families and individuals in the grips of addiction.
Rostro de Cristo: Efforts to help the poor on the margins of Ecuador’s largest city is hard work, except for those who have been inspired by a Boston priest who started Rostro de Cristo, an organization based in Boston that lives the Gospel and serves the poor.
It’s simple: healthier priests mean stronger communities. Please support clergytrust.org
