A NOTE FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK“If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to this sycamore tree, Be uprooted and planted in the sea, and it would obey you.” We have to have faith that God will set our world straight and that His justice will prevail. It is in this light that we should view the theme for this Sunday: Respect Life. We do everything we can to promote life, but ultimately we have to have faith that God’s way will prevail. We may think that we live in an odd era when things, like respect for life, are not clearly defined. The reality is that values are as fickle as the people who uphold them. Take the ancient world, the Romans created laws for the civil rights of certain people and enforced marital laws to protect the parties. They upheld allegiance to the family, and yet they allowed unwanted children to be abandoned and hung those who broke the law, outside of their city gates.
Over fifty years ago, here in this state, there were separate facilities for black and white and today abortions are allowed while the use of plastic bags will soon be prohibited. Yes, we are fickle. God’s will is the only solid base to formulate our reality and that which we value. God created life, therefore it is sacred. God promoted life, therefore it must be promulgated. God enforced laws that protected life, therefore it cannot be disregarded. We gather this Sunday as Family…brothers and sisters in Christ. We focus and honor the various stages of life from conception to natural death. We salute the family nucleus as well as the various stages of life from student to widow. Above all, we appreciate the gift of human life that each one of us holds. Our creation allows us to enter into the eternal life that God intends for each of us. For the committed Catholic, respecting life is expected. We are like that servant in the Gospel reading. We put on our aprons and serve our master recognizing that we are simply doing that which we are obligated to do. We are obligated to lead others to respect life by respecting their lives.
Today is Respect Life Sunday. October is Respect Life Month.
This year’s Respect Life theme is “Christ Our Hope: In Every Season of Life.”

From Your Friends at Outreach: One of the blessings of our new location and the partnerships that we have created since we’ve been here is more space to do the things we have been called to do.One of those is our Table of Plenty Lunch, a pilot program that will launch Friday, September 27, 2019. We will be offering a free lunch to the neediest among us right here in our own backyard in Mill Creek. This will take the place of our Emmanuel Dining Room program, which, after a period of discernment this summer, we have decided would be put to better use closer to home. There is great need in our immediate community and we now have an opportunity to address.We still need YOU! The amazing generosity that is the hallmark of the people of St. John the Beloved always comes through and we will need sandwiches, drinks and snacks to make this program work. Donations can be brought directly to our location at 1205 Milltown Rd. anytime we are open. Beginning Friday, October 11 and continuing every other week ongoing, sandwich donations can be dropped off there on Fridays from 9-11 a.m. We will be scheduling groups for sandwich preparation shortly. The SJB HOLIDAY CRAFT SHOW will be held on Saturday, November 9 from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. This year's show will be a 1-day event. We are accepting both crafters and vendors this year. St John the Beloved Parish invites all students to receive their Faith Formation through our parish RE program. Click here for more information about religious education formation at St John the Beloved Parish and to register your child / grandchild to attend our Tuesday evening program this fall.
We are excited to offer a 4 and 5 year old program on Sunday Mornings. Classes run from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. beginning in September and conclude prior to Palm Sunday. Classes provide a structured learning program which reinforce the skills the child is learning in school (e.g., colors, numbers, senses, motor skills) while learning about God, creation, self and the wonder of life. The tree that you saw, which became large and grew strong, whose height reached to the sky and was visible to all
the earth.
2nd grade and Kindergarten did a fabulous job helping our tree grow this Fall. In both classes we talked about oil pastel and how they differ from crayons. Students used the pastels and thin paper to allow for texture to show through. Kindergarten was led through a step by step drawing of an
acorn. They added the golden brown color with paint. The acorns are paired up with some brightly colored leaves. Though they may not be our typical fall foliage colors, they are still bold and beautiful. 2nd grade got to use our new neon tempera paint cakes. They are used like watercolors, but have the thickness of Tempera paint. Our tree is large and full of life this Fall. Well done students!
