MASS INTENTIONS FOR THE WEEK 2019 BISHOP’S LENTEN APPEAL

Peace and good! As you know, the theme for the Bishop’s Len-ten Appeal (BLA) is “Together in the Light of Christ.” As you reflect upon the donation you have made/pledged or what type of donation/pledge you should make to the BLA, I invite you to reflect upon the ways in which the BLA embraces the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy which are actions we can perform that extend God’s compassion and mercy to those in need.

Gabriel Project, Project Rachel and Respect Life – Support-ed by the BLA

The Gabriel Project and Project Rachel offices work to provide pregnancy assistance, post-abortion recovery and coordinate with the Respect Life Office to restore respect for all human life.

Gabriel Project helps pregnant women with long or shor t-term needs by offering assistance at the parish level. It involves a network of churches, crisis pregnancy centers and other agen-cies working together to assist the mother with physical, materi-al, spiritual and emotional support.

Project Rachel is a post-abortive healing ministry open to mothers, fathers, grandparents, siblings or anyone who seeks healing after abortion. This ministry seeks to reach out with the mercy and love of Christ to help be at peace with oneself and God.

The Respect Life Office offers resources and a collection of ways to help respect life, both in prayer and in action. This of-fice provides educational materials to keep parishioners in-formed of the current issues in regards to all human life from the moment of conception until natural death.

2018 HIGHLIGHTS: • Gabriel Project provided support to 376 mothers with pre-

natal care and/or monetary and medical assistance. This is a 47% increase from last year!

• 63 babies were born to Gabriel Project Mothers. • 50 women attended the Project Rachel healing retreats and/

or a day of recollection. • Parish Respect Life leaders representing 39 parishes attend-

ed the Inaugural Diocesan Respect Life Leadership Confer-ence at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in August 2018.

• More than 650 people attended the Respect Life Sunday Mass to celebrate Persons with Disabilities and the gift of “Every Life: Cherished. Chosen. Sent.” (BLA Flyer, 2019)

Pope Francis shares: “All life has inestimable value even the weakest and most vulnerable, the sick, the old, the unborn and the poor, are masterpieces of God’s creation, made in his own image, destined to live forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and respect.”

The Parish staff wishes to thank the following parish minis-tries: We wish to thank the parishioners who have made their pledges and donations to the Bishop’s Lenten Appeal (BLA). Your pledges and donations will assist the Bishop in his commitment to provide the means for the diocese to share the “works of mercy” to those in need. For the parishioners who are still re-flecting upon their pledge/donation to the BLA, we invite you to reflect upon the ways in which the BLA embraces the cor-poral and spiritual works of mercy. As of this date, St. Joseph Catholic Church has made 69% of its BLA assessment. We wish to thank our parishioners who minister and support the parish Respect Life Ministry. We wish to thank the catechists/trainers of the altar servers. Know that we appreciate the time you commit to their training.
