St Liborius Parish VISION: We, the St Liborius parish Community, seek to support each other in growing together in faith and sharing this faith with the wider community. St Augustines (Myers Flat), St Stephens (Raywood) Communities Growing Together 20th march, 2016 - passion (palm) Sunday, YEAR c Pope Francis Corner - Misericordiae Vultus: Bull of Indiction of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy GRACE, MERCY, AND PEACE (Continued from last week) 15. In this Holy Year, we look forward to the experience of opening our hearts to those living on the outermost fringes of society: fringes which modern society itself creates. How many uncertain and painful situations there are in the world today! How many are the wounds borne by the flesh of those who have no voice because their cry is muffled and drowned out by the indifference of the rich! During this Jubilee, the Church will be called even more to heal these wounds, to assuage them with the oil of consolation, to bind them with mercy and cure them with solidarity and vigilant care. Let us not fall into humiliating indifference or a monotonous routine that prevents us from discovering what is new! Let us ward off destructive cynicism! Let us open our eyes and see the misery of the world, the wounds of our brothers and sisters who are denied their dignity, and let us recognize that we are compelled to heed their cry for help! May we reach out to them and support them so they can feel the warmth of our presence, our friendship, and our fraternity! May their cry become our own, and together may we break down the barriers of indifference that too often reign supreme and mask our hypocrisy and egoism! It is my burning desire that, during this Jubilee, the Christian people may reflect on the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. It will be a way to reawaken our conscience, too often grown dull in the face of poverty. And let us enter more deeply into the heart of the Gospel where the poor have a special experience of Gods mercy. Jesus introduces us to these works of mercy in his preaching so that we can know whether or not we are living as his disciples. Let us rediscover these corporal works of mercy: to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, welcome the stranger, heal the sick, visit the imprisoned, and bury the dead. And let us not forget the spiritual works of mercy: to counsel the doubtful, instruct the ignorant, admonish sinners, comfort the afflicted, forgive offences, bear patiently those who do us ill, and pray for the living and the dead. PRAYER OF POPE FRANCIS

God of Joy, the joy of the Gospel is such that it cannot be taken away from us by anyone or anything.

The evils of our world - and those of the Church - must not be excuses for diminishing our commitment and our

fervour. Let us look upon them as challenges which can help us to grow.

With eyes of faith, may we see the light which your Holy Spirit always radiates in the midst of darkness,

remembering that “where sin increased, grace has abounded all the more’. (Rom 5:20).

In our own lives, help us to discern how wine can come from water and how wheat can grow

in the midst of weeds. Let us disagree with prophets of doom,

always forecasting disaster! May we always be confident that, in our times, your

divine Providence is leading us to a new order of human relations, which, by human effort, and even beyond all

expectations, are directed to the fulfilment of your designs.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

[Prayer from Pope Francis’ words ‘The Joy of the Gospel’ (Evangelii Gaudium)]

ST LIBORIUS SCHOOL

Dear Parents and Friends of St Liborius, Our Sincere Condolences to the McAuliffe Family This week has been a very sad week for our community with the sudden and unexpected death of Chris McAuliffe, Mitchell’s father. Chris was an amazing father to Mitchell & husband to Tania, a great friend to many and a generous and sincere person who touched the lives of all who came in contact with him. As a community we gathered on Tuesday in prayer and I ask everyone to continue to keep both Chris and his family in your prayers and thoughts as well as continue to support each other as we come to terms with the loss of Chris. World’s Greatest Shave Today Jack Pavilach, Yr 6, had his hair shaved, as part of the World's Greatest Shave. He has put in a big effort and raised nearly $500. MARIST COLLEGE

Dear Parents, Marist learning One of my favour ite daily activities is to walk around our learning community to look at, listen to and learn. This usually includes talking with our young people and asking them what they are learning? It always pleases me to hear the articulate answers I am given. Yesterday I showed Br John Kusi Mensah around Marist. Br John is a Marist Brother and Principal of a school in Ghana. Obviously our schools have many differences. Br John enjoyed asking our students about their learning and what they enjoyed about their schooling. The answers were pleasing to hear as students explained how they were taking ownership and control of their own learning. It is clear that the typical student at Marist is developing an awareness of their own learning and is focussed on improving their learning skills rather than just gaining knowledge. SSEB Visit As mentioned last week we hosted the Sandhurst School Education Board on Friday. The all-day meeting included a 20 minute presentation about our College. This took the form of four of our Year 9 students answering questions about our Marist learning community. I was so proud of the four students. They were honest and articulate about how they have developed as learners. They spoke of the challenges they overcame and the joys of being at Marist. Thank you to Max Johnson, Abbey Gwilliam, Danielle O’Toole and Josh Leerson for being such fine ambassadors. St Patrick’s Day Tomorrow is the feast day of one of the Church’s most famous saints. Often attributed as the Father of the Church in Ireland, St. Patrick has always held a special place in the Christian and, in some ways, the secular elements of our Australian society. This is no doubt because of the close links, through time, with Irish immigrants to our country. In our Sacred Heart Cathedral one of the stained glass windows in the Great West Wall is of St. Patrick. Yours sincerely, Darren McGregor, Principal

Life’s Like That… One Palm Sunday, little Johnny was sick and stayed home from church.

When his brothers and sisters came home carrying palm branches, Johnny asked where the palms came from. His father replied, “When Jesus

walked by, people held palm branches over his head.” "Just my luck!" Johnny said. "The one time I don’t go to church, Jesus

shows up.” http://www.funny-jokes-quotes-sayings.com/funny-easter-quotes.html
