Weekly Message
INTIMACY WITH JESUS IN THE
EUCHARIST
I was eight years old when I made my first Holy Communion. The experience is still very fresh on my mind. I remember where I sat in the Church, my white suite and black bow tie to match with my new black shoes. I was all new. Apart from the externals, I felt very clean
and new inside. We had Confessions the previous day and the priest had told us to do everything possible to remain in the state of grace for our first holy communion. I did. And as I knelt before the altar to receive the body and blood of Christ, I remember exactly how excited I felt despite the anxiety, the deep joy and peace I experienced. The priest dipped the body of Christ into the blood of Christ and placed it on my tongue. I felt so intimate with Jesus. I felt so special and privileged. As I knelt back at my seat, I could really feel the presence of God deep within me. Jesus invites us into this intimate relationship with Him. He says in today’s Gospel, “He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him”. We all want to have a closer friendship with Jesus. We want to have more of Jesus in our lives. The best place to encounter Jesus is in the Eucharist. If we desire to be intimate with Jesus, He tells us: “Eat my body and drink my blood”. Our most intimate moment with Jesus is when we receive Jesus in Holy Communion. We receive Jesus into our very bodies. We become the tabernacle, the temple where Jesus dwells. We could not be any closer with Jesus than having Him in us. Today we celebrate the solemnity of Corpus Christi. Christ in His love for us gives us the food of his body and blood to sustain us in our pilgrimage to heaven. Just as God gave the children of Israel manna on their journey to the promise land, as we see in the first reading. But this time around, it is not ordinary food, but the Body and Blood of Jesus himself. It is the food that sustains us to eternal life. The mystery of the Eucharist is a great miracle. The bread and wine changes, substantially, into the body and blood of Christ. I know that for some persons it is difficult to believe it. I truly understand such doubts because we don’t get to see any change in the bread or wine. The taste, the color, the shape, etc, all remain the same. And since our intellect works more with our physical senses, it seems to be against logic to say that the bread and wine has changed into the Body and Blood of Jesus despite no change in appearance. But we have to understand that Reason (intellectual knowledge) without Faith (spiritual knowledge) is limited because we are composite beings of body and spirit. Thus, to have a more comprehensive knowledge of reality, we need to add faith to our reason and intellect. As Paul says, in the Christian life we go by faith and not (just) by sight (2 Cor 5:7). When we submit to God we lose nothing but gain everything. Faith and reason works together to enable us experience the love of God. The Eucharist is the gift of God’s love for us. At the moment of Consecration, during the Mass, the "gifts" of
bread and wine are transformed (transubstantiated) into the actual
Body and Blood of Christ. This means that they are not only
spiritually transformed, but rather are actually (substantially)
transformed into the Body and Blood of Christ. The elements retain
the appearance of bread and wine, but are indeed the actual Body
and Blood of Christ. This is what is meant by Real Presence: the
actual, physical presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.
Jesus understands that we can be weak in faith and so from time to time God sends us miracles to remind us that the Eucharist really is His body and blood, food and drink for our souls. In the history of the Church, a small number of people were given the grace to survive only on the Eucharist, eating no food except the Eucharist. Blessed Alexandrina of Portugal lived only on the Eucharist during the last thirteen years of her life. Marthe Robin in south eastern France did not consume anything except the Eucharist from 1928 until her death in 1981. Besides, there are many instances that the Eucharist had turned into human flesh and blood. Yet, the miracles of the Eucharist are not limited to these, but these are only extraordinary instances to help us, the weak in faith. The greatest of all miracles takes place each time the Eucharist is celebrated: bread and wine turns into the body and blood of Jesus. As Catholics we believe that Christ is truly present in the Eucharist. The Blessed Sacrament is given the same adoration and devotion that is accorded to Christ. Here in the parish we have 12 hours exposition of the Blesses Sacrament, 9:00am -9:00pm, Monday through Friday. Jesus asks of you, ‘Could you not watch one hour with me?’ Pope John Paul II in one of his homilies said, “It is pleasant to spend time with Him, to lie close to His breast like the Beloved Disciple (cf. Jn 13:25) and to feel the infinite love present in His heart ... If, in our time Christians must be distinguished by the “art of prayer”, how can we not feel a renewed need to spend time in spiritual conversation, in silent adoration, in heartfelt love before Christ present in the Most Holy Sacrament?” Jesus looks out for you, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”. (Matthew 11:28) CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION: Today, at 6pm, we shall have a Solemn Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament followed by a procession around the Church property, celebrating the awesome presence of Jesus Christ with us through His Body and Blood. I invite you all to this special spiritual exercise which is recommended by the Church. Come let us show forth Christ to the world! THE PARISH PICNIC: I wish to sincerely thank everyone who
made it to the Picnic yesterday. Thanks for cherishing this
community and sharing your time and joy with fellow parishioners. It
was worth it. In a special way, I thank the Stewardship Committee
of the Parish for all their sacrifices in organizing the event. God
bless you all!
Happy Father’s Day to all of the father’s in the parish! Thank you for your continued devotion to family, faith and all things Dad!

Mass Request Guidelines
It is a beautiful practice of the Catholic Church for the faithful to request Masses to
be offered for a specific intention. Canon Law 946 says ”The Christian faithful who
give an offering to apply the Mass for their intention contribute to the good of the
Church and by that offering share its concern to support its ministers and works.”
The practice of requesting a Mass has become so popular, that in our parish the Mass intentions schedule
fills up quickly. We receive more Mass requests than we have Masses celebrated in a year. Because of
this the administration finds it necessary to set guidelines to allow more parishioners to request Masses.
1. When can I make the requests?
The parish office is accepting Mass requests for 2017. Requests will be received on a first-come, first-
served basis. Requests for the year 2018 will open to parishioners beginning on July 1, 2017.
2. Is there a limit to the number of requests?
You may request for up to *fifteen Masses per household per year. Please make your request at the
parish office. You may also request for up to *fifteen Masses in behalf of another family who is not
able to come.
3. What happens to the Mass intentions?
The intentions are mentioned during the General Intercessions of the Mass and are added to the weekly
bulletin. Although it is good for the priest to mention the name of the person for whom the Mass is
offered, there are no universal laws that require the priest to mention the intention out loud.
4. How many names can I add to one Mass intention?
Most priests mention an intention as either special intentions (living) or for the repose of the soul
(deceased) person. For this reason, one person per intention is ideal. We ask that you write only the
first and last name for each intention.
What if the intention is for a married couple? You may offer a Mass intention for a married couple
provided they are either both living or both deceased.
What if the intention is for several deceased members of the family? You may offer a Mass for this
intention. However, due to space limitations, the office may not be able to accommodate all the names
in the space provided for one Mass intention. In this case, the office may write only the last name so
that it will reflect in the bulletin and the General Intercessions sheet as “+deceased members of the
(last name) family+.”
5. Thank you for your offering of $5.00 per Mass request.
*The religious order of the Missionary Society of St. Paul accepts Mass requests to be said by their priests
in foreign missions. If desired, you may make your request through the parish office. We will send your
request to the MSP Mission Development Office along with your check written to the Missionary
Society of St. Paul. Please note “Mass intention” on your check.
We appreciate your observance of these guidelines.

Breaking Open the Word
for Families Most Holy Body and Blood of
Christ
Reading 1: Deuteronomy 8:2-3, 14b-16a God afflicted you with hunger and then fed you with manna. God allowed His chosen people, wandering in the desert, to experience hunger so that He could feed them with Heavenly Food. Let us thank the Lord when we hunger for Him, for He feeds us with His very Body and Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Blessed Sacrament, Holy Eucharist. Let us praise Him for knowing what we need and mercifully feeding us with His very Self. Reading 2: 1 COR 10:16-17 We, though many, are one body. St. Paul reminds us that as we participate in the one cup of Christ’s Blood and as we partake of the One Bread which is His Body, we are made one with each other. This is one of the distinguishing marks of the Catholic Church: that she is One. No matter where you go in the world, you will always be a part of the Catholic family. Wherever you enter into a Catholic Mass, you are home.
Gospel: John 6:51-58
Jesus said: I am the Living Bread come down from Heaven. Jesus
Christ is really, truly, and substantially present in the Blessed
Sacrament, Holy Eucharist: Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. When His
disciples heard these words, even though they had been with Jesus
and experienced the power of His teaching and healing and witnessed
firsthand His signs and wonders, they could not accept the idea of
eating His Body and drinking His blood. They wanted to leave. Did
Jesus take back His words to make them more palatable to His
disciples? No. He reiterated them more intensely: Amen, Amen, I
say to you: unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink
His Blood, you do not have life within you.

Me sentí tan especial y privilegiado.
