The Priority Planning Listening Session !"#$%&'%()%*#+,-#+,./-#0*!(#/12,#3#41,,#56#

in the cafeteria /gym facilitated by Fr. Gary KastlThe session will include interactive, facilitated discussions in small groups during which the participants will be asked to identify:

1. What our faith community does well 2. Three priorities we should consider over the next 3 years 3. What we would like the parish to look like in 3 years

Come and bring your ideas!

7"#'8%#9:;#<!(%1 What does the story of the Prodigal Son tell us about God’s love? How do you experience this love?

The celebration of our 100th Anniversary as a faith community is a significant moment in the life of our parish. Today, there are significant challenges and opportunities presented to the Catholic Church in the U.S. by a new religious landscape. There are also many blessings. That is our agenda for this meeting. We would like to ask you to '($,:&)!-1'&-1*&1,$01"&+'*",2'(+;&'("&-..-*'1,$'$"+;&4-77-,&)+.$*)'$-,+&),5&5"+$*"5&*"+1#'+&'()'&4-,+'$'1'"&)&%$!*),'&.)*$+(&in the years ahead.

This Thursday, September 15, I will kick off my 22nd college visitation tour in Milledgeville. If you have a son or daughter who is attending college and think that they might enjoy a decent meal at a nice restaurant with their parish priest, please call the parish office and leave his or her name and cell phone number. And please send a text out to them, so they are not surprised when they get a text from the parish. I will be up in Atlanta on Thursday, September 22. At the moment I am also planning on going to Macon, Statesboro and Athens, but if we get an enthusiastic response from other college towns I will certainly try to fit them into the schedule. I will post the schedule for the other college towns in next week’s bulletin. Dinner is free and there are no obligations. It is a small way of keeping our college students connected to their faith community.

Our CCD program starts back up this weekend. I look forward to welcoming back our returning students and meeting those families and students who are new to the program. Faith Formation is a lifelong pursuit rather than something accomplished in a single year. Each year builds on the previous one. So, my prayer for us all is that we forward to adding another strong building block to our lives in the coming year and become more familiar with our faith and grow more in our understanding of the Scripture and Sacraments and cultivate a deeper relationship with Jesus.

I thank all our parents who re-enforce the weekly CCD lessons that our children learn, especially by living the faith at home and coming to the Sunday Eucharist as a family. It is so important that our children deepen their love for Jesus within the context of family life. As Pope Francis tells us in his letter to families “In your journey as a family, you share so many beautiful moments: meals, rest, housework, leisure, prayer, trips and pilgrimages, and times of mutual support… Nevertheless, if there is no love then there is no joy, and authentic love comes to us from Jesus. He offers us his word, which illuminates our path; he gives us the Bread of life which sustains us on our journey.”

We still have a ways to go in reaching our parish goal for the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. The Bishop needs the support of all parishioners to continue the many Diocesan Ministries that spread the love of Christ throughout South Georgia. Please send in your contribution to the BAA.

It has been 15 years but we are still recovering from 9/11. In some ways, those of us who remember it will never be completely out from under its shadow. We have seen the worst of how human beings can terrorize each other and terrorism is now a part of our lives. But as people of faith, we must never allow the mystery of human evil to obscure all of the love and goodness people display around them day after day after day...As people of faith what we bear witness to is that God ultimately is bigger than all that can oppose God; that God remains God. And God will always have the last Word; and it will be a Word of Love and Life eternal.

CHILDREN’S STEWARDSHIP

In our parish Kindergarten through 8th grade children are provided with their own stewardship envelopes. Each week, our children have an opportunity to join with the entire parish to thank God for His generous blessings and to share these blessings with others. Children have the option of contributing a donation, or they may write down examples when they have given of

their time and talent: a chore completed without complaint, a donation made to charity, or an extra effort or act of kindness on behalf of someone else. Children’s envelopes serve as a powerful tool of Christian witness and prepare them for a lifelong commitment.Adults, please do not use the children envelopes for your tithe. Thank you!

GIVING ELECTRONICALLY

Please be aware that you may make your offertory donation, pay for mass stipends, send memorials and make any other contributions or payments to the church through our website www.stmaryonthehill.org. All we ask when you do is that your description of the gift be detailed enough for us to post this correctly. We accept American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa debit or credit transactions. Another way to make gifts to the church is through your bill pay option with your bank. Simply enter the church as the payee, using your tithe number for the account number. For non tithe monies please make sure you clearly note what the check is for on the memo section of the payment. We feel these options are preferable to automatic debits as you, the parishioner, have control over when your gifts are made.

St. Mary on the Hill is sustained by the generosity of our parishioners through time, talent and treasure.

For all that you do, THANK YOU!

we know enough to become a saint.” Come join us!

Stress runs rampant in our lives. Stress related diseases are high and increasing. Mindfulness training is a healthy alternative for transcending daily stresses. Mindfulness training is also a remarkable pathway for learning the process of contemplative prayer: partnering with God in the dance of life. Come; meet with us at the intersection of science and faith. We have much we can learn from each other as we aspire to become holy. “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” Matthew 18:20.
