If you are like me, you may not be a huge fan of technology and would

much rather see people in person, face-to-face. Our present situation has

thrust us into unfamiliar territory whereby that is not an option for now,

however, praise God for many opportunities to still keep in touch,

encourage one another, support one another, worship together and,

continue to grow in our faith together. I know it may not be our preferred

choice and again, if you’re like me you may have felt a bit begrudging and

even resentful at the thought of having to be stretched to learn new ways of

doing things however can I encourage you – what at first may seem stressful,

overwhelming and foreign can soon become much easier with practice

and it serves an important purpose – it enables us to stay connected. With

that here's a couple of ‘tech tips’ to help you stay connected at this time.

CONFERENCE CALLING

How To: Conference Call

All mobile phones have a ‘conference call’ option.

1 Call person 1, ask them to wait while you call person 2

person 1 will hear a beeping sound while you do this.

2 On your screen press ‘Add call’. Follow the prompts and

call person 2, including pressing ‘Merge call’. When they

answer (can be a landline) they will hear a message

saying something like ‘this is a linked call’, then it will

connect. Now you have a three-way call.

3 Repeat as above for as many people as you like.

TIP: It is important to follow the Instructions of the ‘leader’ when doing group

calls because if people talk at once it can sound distorted and loud. If the

leader invites each person to speak one at a time then that works well.

ZOOM

How To: Video Call using Zoom

Zoom is an online conferencing tool that is free for up to 45

minutes, or subscriptions are $20 per month if you want to talk

for longer or have other chat options. As a Parish I would like to

see as many people as possible get on board with ZOOM, this

will enable us to gather together, hold meetings, bible studies,

prayer groups and much more.

I will guide each of you through the process to connect onto ZOOM over the

next couple of weeks. All you need to do is be at your computer, have

internet access and look out for an email from me asking you to join a

meeting.

If you have an ipad you can download ZOOM before I email you. Be sure to

say yes to ZOOM using your camera and microphone.

For ZOOM meetings it is best to be at your computer ten minutes before the

meeting time, this way you can open the link and check your video and

audio are working.

Video is not compulsory, Zoom also works fine with just audio. For more info
