He lived in the 9 th Century and was raised by Christian parents in the Faith. He made the choice to expound on the Faith he was born into as though he were finding it for the first time. In so doing, he is referred to as “Righteous” Eudocimus. Furthermore, he made the conscious decision to remain unmarried and to live in chastity. In so doing, the only woman he ever spoke with was his own mother. He concerned himself wholly with the unfortunate, the orphans and the widows. Once he was appointed Governor of Chorziane, Armenia, he dealt with them justly and served them in kindness. After a blameless life and at the age of 33 (same as our Lord & Saviour Christ), he was taken from this world and buried by his attendants. After 18 months, his mother came to venerate his body and upon removing the stone and digging up the grave, he was found completely preserved. The grace of God with which he lived his life showed through his preserved, miracle-working relics. O Righteous Eudocimus, pray for us!

“Until then, our Lord had manifested His divine power many times to the disciples; but on Mount Tabor He manifested His Divine

Nature.”

St.NikolaiVelimirovič

The Feast of the Transfiguration of Christ takes place this Saturday in the Holy Orthodox Church

- On this day, Christ revealed to the disciples His

Divine Nature, though only so much as they could humanly bear. Only three of his disciples were chosen

to accompany Him up the mountain, three of His closest and dearest: Peter, James, & John. This day is

selected around the Orthodox world for the blessing of fruits, since it coincides with the season of the harvest.

Symbolically, it is the significance of bearing the fruits of faith worthy of repentance and the worship of

our God.

Transfiguration Troparion – tone 7

You were transfigured on the mountain, O Christ our God, * revealing as much of Your glory to Your disciples as they could behold. * Through the prayers of the Mother of God, * let Your everlasting light also shine upon

us sinners. * O Giver of Light, glory be to You.

Preobrazilsja jesi na hor’i, Christe Bože, * pokazavyj Učenikom Tvojim slavu Tvoju, * jakože možachu: * da vozs’ijajet i nam hr’išnyjm sv’it Tvoj prison suščnyj, * molitvami Bohorodicy: * sv’itodavče slava Teb’i.

ST. NICHOLAS SPICE RUN “Ye are the salt of the earth…” Matthew 5:13

- Bring us your cinnamon, your pepper, your nutmeg &

coriander! FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS, St. Nicholas Parish is making a run on spices. Every

parishioner is asked to bring in herbs & spices for us to bless and to donate to the North Rockland Food

Pantry, as much as you can bring. -

Beauty is a necessity for mankind. We have helped to provide food for the pantry each year, all year, and there are always more to feed! But now, we call on one another to also provide more beauty for

those in need, to not only provide food but flavor & joy for these children of God. -

THE SPICES & HERBS WILL BE BLESSED WITH THE TRADITIONAL FLOWERS AFTER LITURGY ON SUNDAY, AUG. 27th, in honor of the Feast of the Dormition of

the Mother of God. Come and celebrate!
