Jesus’ objective is for us – the Advent People, to engage in re-creating the human heart by doing the following spiritual Advent exercises: “Recreate the human heart on how to speak the language of peace, and we become peacemakers; recreate the human heart on how to speak the language of prayer, so that we become grounded in our faith; recreate the human heart on how to speak the language of hospitality and we will always be welcoming; and recreate the human heart on how to be humble, and we become practitioners of humility.” “Be prepared” doesn’t only mean that we must have a life and medical insurance, and have sufficient cash deposits in the bank that will take care of us until we die. Jesus’ goal is for us to committing ourselves to the Advent “walk the talk” spiritual journey, that: “Where there is hatred, let us bring love; where there is injury, let us bring pardon; where there is doubt, let us bring faith; where there is despair, let us bring hope; and where there is darkness, let us bring light.” (Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi) Today, as we enter into the First Sunday of the Advent Season, let’s wait with Hope but “Stay awake!” and “Be prepared!” Blessings, Fr. OUR PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

We, the people of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Faith Community, Baptized into Jesus Christ, formed by Word and Sacrament, and Empowered by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Seek to be a visible sign of God’s love. We seek to build the Kingdom of God by: Using our unique gifts to minister to one another, Welcoming all and caring for those in need, Teaching our faith to others and Uniting in worship as a family with the Body of Christ.

Dear Holy People of God: ADVENT SEASON is here! Symbols reveal the meaning and beauty of ADVENT. The four candles (three purples and one pink) are placed in an Advent Wreath. “ The green of the wreath speaks of our hope in God… The candles symbolize the light of God coming into the world through the birth of his Son. The four candles represent the season of waiting. The light of the candles reminds us that Jesus is the light of the world that… brings… life and hope. The progression in the lighting of the candles symbolizes the various aspects of our waiting experience. The flame of each new candle reminds the worshippers that something is happening, and that more is yet to come.” The best is soon to arrive!

And today is the FIRST SUNDAY of ADVENT! We enter into the rhythm of hope. While COVID-19 continues to be a threat to our lives, hope invites us to “walk in the light of the Lord” (Is 2:5); and summons us to “put on the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Rom 13:14) And while “walking in the light of the Lord” and “putting on the Lord Jesus Christ,” hope disposes us to: “stay awake” and “be prepared.” That our hearts are attuned to God’s love.

“Stay awake” doesn’t only mean that our eyes are wide open or our minds are alert. Jesus’ objective is for us – the Advent People, to engage in re-creating the human heart by doing the following spiritual Advent exercises:

“Recreate the human heart on how to speak the language of peace, and we become peacemakers; recreate the human heart on how to speak the language of prayer, so that we become grounded in our faith; recreate the human heart on how to speak the language of hospitality and we will always be welcoming; and recreate the human heart on how to be humble, and we become practitioners of humility.”

“Be prepared” doesn’t only mean that we must have a life and medical insurance, and have sufficient cash deposits in the bank that will take care of us until we die. Jesus’ goal is for us to committing ourselves to the Advent “walk the talk” spiritual journey, that:

“Where there is hatred, let us bring love; where there is injury, let us bring pardon; where there is doubt, let us bring faith; where there is despair, let us bring hope; and where there is darkness, let us bring light.” (Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi)

Today, as we enter into the First Sunday of the Advent Season, let’s wait with Hope but “Stay awake!” and “Be prepared!”

WEEKEND MASS SCHEDULE

At this time of year, as we encounter the changes of time and season, we are readjusting our “IN PERSON” Weekend Mass Schedule. The revised schedule is noted below:

SATURDAY

4:00pm – Livestream Mass (English) 5:00pm – “IN PERSON” Courtyard Mass 6:30pm – Livestream Mass (Spanish)

As with our current “In Person” Masses, you will still need to reserve you seat through our Eventbrite seating system. The reservation system enables us to have immediate contact tracing should the need arise. It also ensures that we do not exceed the maximum number of people for each mass and we will not have to “turn anyone away” from attending the Mass since their seat is already reserved. NOTE: If for some reason you will not be able to attend the Mass, please be considerate and cancel your reservation, so that someone else may attend the “In Person” Mass. Thank you.

Obtaining reservations for Mass:

To make it easier to obtain a “reservation” for Mass, and to avoid getting a reservation for the wrong parish, please make sure you go directly to our website: www.sptacc.org and follow the instructions.

Please Update your Mass reservations:

If for some reason your plans change at the last minute and you will not be able to attend a Mass for which you already have reservations, please be sure to go through our parish website and “CANCEL” your reservation(s). That way, someone else can obtain a reservation through our Parish website. We do have a large num-ber of people who “wait” at the door to see if anyone is cancelling their reservation(s), so that they can attend the Mass.

Angel Toy Drive

2020 is going by fast and the Angel Toy Drive is almost here! Due to the effects of the pandemic, our community anticipate this year's requests for toys will reach higher than ever. If you would like to be an angel this Christmas and help meet this historic demand and ensure our local children in need receive some holiday joy,

please consider donating a toy, game or gift card to our Angel Toy Drive.

In previous years, we have had paper angels to take representing the ages of children in our community. Due to the pandemic and the new restrictions in place, we will not be using our paper angels. We are asking for donations for boys/girls in these age groups: 0-2 yrs. old, 3-5 yrs. old, 6-8 yrs. old, 9-12 yrs. old and our teens 13-17 yrs. old.

Due to the large number of teen angels in our community, we ask that you consider donating gift cards as well, for stores such as Target, Wal-Mart, etc. Suggested value should be $20.00. Please bring Gift Cards to the Parish Office.

Donation bins will be available in the Courtyard during Mass and at the Communion Distribution Line on Sunday. Donation bins are also availa-ble at the Parish Office.

Please turn in your new, unwrapped toy or gift no later than Wednesday, December 16th. Bring Gift Cards and Toys to the Parish Office, Monday - Friday 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Knock on the door when you arrive.

If you are aware of a local family who is strug-gling during these difficult times, ask them to contact the Parish Office.

Any questions or would like any additional infor-mation, contact the Parish Office.

CHRISTMAS CARDS DONATIONS The Office of Restorative Justice coordinates

the distribution of thousands of Christmas cards each year to prisons in our Diocese. We are in need of boxes of new, un-signed Christmas cards

(especially Spanish-language cards) which are then given to inmates to send home to their families. During this time, we ask for your help in showing our incarcerated sisters and brothers that some people do care.

• Deadline is Friday, December 4th in order to meet the prisons’ deadlines.

• Please NO cards that: are scented; contain glitter, tassels, ribbons, plastic, or pieces that can be removed or musical cards. Also NO cards requesting/requiring donations to an organization.

Please drop off boxes of cards at the Parish Office.

PLEASE SUPPORT OUR ADVERTISERS. THEY MAKE OUR BULLETIN POSSIBLE!!

Adoration of the blessed sacrament

We are happy to announce that we will be having Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on First Friday, December 4th in the Courtyard of the Church. It has been a very long time since we have had the privilege to adore our Lord during Eucharistic Holy Hour. We need to renew ourselves in prayer and to intercede for all who are in need.

St. John Paul II wrote, “Because your hour with Jesus will repair the evils of the world, and bring about peace on earth, the Church says, ‘Let us be generous with our time in going to meet Him … May our adoration never cease.’”

You can sign up for an hour of Adoration through Eventbrite in our Church Website. (See schedule below) Walk-ins are also welcome, if seating is available. 90 seats will be prepared for each hour.

Evangelization & Faith Page 8

We encourage you to take notes as you reflect on this week readings / homily

Recall the last time you had com-pany come to your home.

Maybe it was family visiting from out of town or a friend you hadn’t seen in awhile. How did you prepare for them? You likely cleaned the house, planned nice meals, and cleared your schedule to spend time with them—all the while looking forward to their arrival.

If we spend so much time preparing for the coming of friends or family—meticulously cleaning our homes, setting plans for how we can enjoy our time together, and so expectantly awaiting their arrival— how much more ought we to be watching and preparing for the coming of Christ? How do we prepare the home of our heart as we await his coming?

D ISCUSSION: Let us reflect on Christ’s command to be watchful

and alert as we hear the words of the Gospel of Mark. He shows us the

importance of vigilance in our spiritual lives as he tells us a parable of the servants and the watchman. Consider how we can more consciously await Christ’s coming as we watch the v i d e o f r o m D r . G r a y o n sptaccformed.org It can be easy to neglect something that seems so dis-tant as Christ coming again. Because we have no idea when or how he will come again, it can be difficult to remember to be sober and alert, let alone dedicate our lives to keeping vigilant watch for his coming.

D IGGING DEEPER: OUR LAST DAY

The Gospel passage today focuses on watchfulness. Jesus’s exhortation to be alert includes his second com-ing as well as his coming into our hearts as we celebrate Christmas, but this is not all. We are to be watchful for the end of our time here on earth as well. We, of course, do not know when this will be. Though we don’t often think of it, it is an incredibly so-bering reflection. Make a commitment to be alert for the day you will meet Christ. If it were today, would you be able to stand before Christ with a pure and hopeful heart? What areas of your life would you wish you had more time to change? Start making

those changes now. Use this time of Advent to be who Christ is calling you to be.

P RAYER: Reflect on the word watch. Jesus uses it three times

in today’s Gospel. Are you watching for anything in your life? What do you find yourself expectantly waiting for? How do you watch for Christ in your day-to-day life? Take some time to reflect on a word or phrase that stands out to you from today’s Gos-pel. Reflect on it and apply it to your own life. For example, “You do not know when the time will come” (Mark 13:33). You could ask yourself, “What am I doing each day to seek out Christ? Have I put off prayer and pur-suing a relationship with him, thinking that I can start tomorrow?”

R ESOLUTION: St. Paul tells the people of Corinth, “God is faith-

ful, and by him you were called to fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:9). How will you answer the call to fellowship with Christ this Advent? What is one prac-tical way you will prepare the home of your heart for the coming of the Christ Child?

Watching with HOPE

Debemos seguir siendo perseverantes. Debemos “permanecer alerta”. Debemos tener esperanza. Debemos amar. Debemos rezar.
